Grr, I want an extra notification for all non-english freedb-imports which says that "make sure the album you are entering has (a) proper language capitalization (b) proper script (ie. proper characters) in the track names!"
anthrem
yah, I had the devel version too!
have
wondering if the libmusicbrainz version is too high for libtunepimp 0.3
luks
i'd say the other way round
too old libmb
anthrem
really?
luks
are you really sure you have 2.1.2?
anthrem
libmusicbrainz-devel-2.1.2-0.2.fc3.kde
libmusicbrainz-2.1.2-0.2.fc3.kde
luks
hmm, release date stuff was added in 2.1.0
anthrem
maybe delete the rpm and compile from source?
luks
yes, i think that would be the best
anthrem
do I need to compile libmusicbrainz and then devel?
luks
can you please send me /usr/include/musicbrainz/queries.h ?
tags do absolutly not fit to my style and seems to have no songs :)
ojnkpjg
it used to give me really awful suggestions when it was still very new
i think about two years ago
HairMetalAddict
Heh, it mostly suggests artists that are low on my already-listened-to list seeing as I already have listened to the majority of poodle rock. :-P
Shepard
if it suggests britney to you one day you could begin to worry
HairMetalAddict
It suggested Korn to me once. Caused extreme vomiting...
ojnkpjg
it's probably suggested korn to me, also
which is even more strange, considering what i listen to
for the most part, anyway
HairMetalAddict finishes proofing his results of a study of the current voting situation
HairMetalAddict
Okay, I'm planning on bringing this up for discussion on one of the hundred MB lists. It concerns two of the issues I've found with the current voting situation... 1) Major drop in people voting, and 2) how 2 yes-votes being required to override 1 no-vote is detrimental to MB.
I've tried to write this in a non-"inflammatory" way, presenting only the general ideas as I see them. Despite recent "events" that have involved me, nothing in this is meant to single out any individual moderator. Pretty much everything I've written was backed up with votes done by several moderators, not just one. Where I only saw one moderator voting a certain way, I left it out as it's not "wide-spread".
I'm posting it here for thoughts, ways to re-word it should anything sound too inflammatory, etc. before taking it to the list.
If anyone's got a moment to read it and give some thoughts. please do. Particularly on wording. The idea is to start a discussion on the issues, not start a flame-war. Ideas on rewording to avoid a flame-war, should I not be seeing something, are definitely welcome.
ojnkpjg
i think concrete stats would help your case, if you can find them
i'd be interested in seeing how many failed mods end up being resubmitted
er, what percentage of, i mean
also, i expect the fall in voting is due to the removal of the random inline vote iframe by default
i think it was removed because of random no votes ;)
but there was a long thread about it, if i remember correctly
HairMetalAddict
Mmm, that's the reason I gave. And yeah, I'm pretty sure that's why it was removed. Just bringing up it's been detrimental in a "different" way.
decklin
how do you list mods for a deleted artist?
ojnkpjg
might be worth mentioning something about it, just to avoid tangents related to that
HairMetalAddict
As for concrete stats, I wish I could. I don't really have the ability to do that. I mean, it's based on just looking over old (past few months) add mods, and how frequently I saw the same situation occuring.
ojnkpjg
just on wording, i don't think it's inflamatory
i don't agree with many points, but that's not what you were asking for right now
HairMetalAddict
I don't think I saw enough "deleted artist" issues to even mention it.
Yeah, I don't expect agreement. Just looking to start discussion.
I can toss in a line about "deleted artist" being a mostly non-issue if it should be mentioned. I believe it's a rare occurance though.
ojnkpjg
i only vote on artists i listen to, unless i'm really bored at work and then i'll start looking at add track, and remove mods
i wonder if other people are doing the same thing
ves has quit
do no-voters really rarely not fix their votes when it's pointed out an entry is correct?
HairMetalAddict
Mmm. Actually, that may be another reason for low voting. Obscure artists is where most of the problems occur.
ojnkpjg
also, do you know if an email address is required to vote no?
i think that might be a good idea
HairMetalAddict
Yeah. Whether it's just that they ignore the e-mail (or e-mails are sent to a junk account), or maybe they're offline. Who knows... but I rarely saw a vote change (a few active moderators excluded).
I'm for verified e-mail for anything that causes MB change, mod or vote.
ojnkpjg
yeah
i am, too
HairMetalAddict
Dunno if it's required for a no-vote. It's supposed to be required for adding albums, but there's a bug there that allows it without e-mail.
Seen no-votes solely because the submittor didn't have an e-mail address. I didn't include that in the list because if the bug is fixed, it won't be an issue.
And it was rare.
ojnkpjg
i agree with the points about style
unless it's a real trainwreck
like a various artists disaster
rjmunro joined the channel
or non-va when it ought to be
HairMetalAddict
Trainwrecks (VA submitted as one artist) are obvious no's. Agreed.
ojnkpjg
something that'd take more than a couple of minutes max to fix
i don't agree with the proof point
but i don't have time now to discuss it, because i need to get ready to go to work
but when you post it, i'll try to post something coherent
HairMetalAddict
And the nasty submissions that normally come with hip-hop-vs-(c)rap with fifty million "featured artists" aren't worth the effort most of the time
Mmm, just wanting to make sure I'm clear and "non-inflammatory" at this point. Thanks for the input.
ojnkpjg
i think you are
well, just one suggestion, instead of imperatives, maybe employ suggestions
there's a lot of 'need' in there :)
HairMetalAddict
I have needs, you know. ;-) I'll look it over.
ojnkpjg
well, it doesn't bother me, but maybe it'd rub some people the wrong way
but then again, i might just be looking too hard
HairMetalAddict
Hehe, considering recent "events", I'd expect most in here to be looking too hard. Thus the perfect place to test it. :-P
ojnkpjg
did you see what happened to that mod we had the discussion on?
the guy deleted it
with two yes votes
i don't get it
i added it back in, but really, what the hell
we decide it's good, then he deletes it
i hope we didn't scare him off
HairMetalAddict
Mmm, he e-mailed me after he deleted it. Confused newbie who thought the mod notes were directed at him. And yeah, he got scared off. I tried to explain the situation to him, but he didn't respond to that.
ojnkpjg
oh :\
i was surprised you found the info so easily
i did spent a minute or two looking for it and came up empty
spend
i'd never seen cduniverse, i don't think
but it's added to my "list of places to check stuff"
