bach is the artist with most albums, afaik
      • 2006-01-06 00643, 2006

      • UserErr0r
        either way, funny

i guess 200 years give an advantage
      • 2006-01-06 00600, 2006

      • UserErr0r
hmm there has to be an easier way of doing this

(music isnt being matched to anything on mb, so i have to manually drag the songs to the results... however theres 20+ tracks and i cant see the proper match and the song on the screen at the asme time)

      • UserErr0r
        yeah
      • 2006-01-06 00636, 2006

      • thelijah
do some very basic tagging on the files ... artist/album/title need to be filled in (though not exactly right)
      • 2006-01-06 00632, 2006

      • UserErr0r
set em all to proper artist and/or album, and then readd to picard?

      • Eirien has quit
      • 2006-01-06 00624, 2006

      • UserErr0r
hmm, how well is picard at handling id3v2 tags where the title field has the track number in it (even though thats what the track field is for :o)
      • 2006-01-06 00656, 2006

      • thelijah
yep! i think it will still have a hard time matching track to track unless it's filled in too :| if they have some "regular" naming convention, you can use another program (tagtool, easytag...) to fill these in automatically
      • 2006-01-06 00628, 2006

      • thelijah
it's decent. it does some amount of "fuzzy" matching, so tracks will appear with a color coding depending on how well they're matched
      • 2006-01-06 00649, 2006

      • UserErr0r
hmm, i assume i need to load these tracks into winamp to do the basic retagging
      • 2006-01-06 00605, 2006

      • thelijah
although very often, the match will look perfect to you and i, but it will appear red(bad) because it has some caps issues, or something equally as small
      • 2006-01-06 00606, 2006

      • UserErr0r
just the problem of finding the music folder (im going thru my dad's music collection and having them properly tagged...)
      • 2006-01-06 00631, 2006

      • UserErr0r
but each drive has at least 4 different music folders :/

        UserErr0r: if you're on win. i suggest http://mp3tag.de/en
      • 2006-01-06 00640, 2006

      • UserErr0r
i dont mind using winamp for manual tag editing
      • 2006-01-06 00648, 2006

      • UserErr0r
its just the finding the folder part, which no software can help
      • 2006-01-06 00653, 2006

      • thelijah
how many files do you have to do?

      • 2006-01-06 00640, 2006

      • UserErr0r
a couple hundred to 1 or 2 thousand maybe
      • 2006-01-06 00604, 2006

      • thelijah
ah... i woudln't do more than about 5 with winamp ... that mp3tag is absolutely the right tool to fix tags... you can view/edit the tags of as many files as you like at once
      • 2006-01-06 00620, 2006

      • UserErr0r
(have 200 in this folder im currently working with)
      • 2006-01-06 00638, 2006

      • UserErr0r
well, its easy and fast to just mass-edit the album/artist for an album's worth of songs
      • 2006-01-06 00649, 2006

      • thelijah
but then, you only need to do this tag stuff if it's empty... if it has something close to what it needs, picard should be able to match a good percentage of them
      • 2006-01-06 00652, 2006

      • UserErr0r
but editing every little detail is indeed quite annoying with winamp
