i have something which needs tagging which is an amazing amount of hassle with my old one..

thinking about checking out picardqt, but that looks like quite a challenge.
2006-12-01 33553, 2006
warp
i'm tagging something which has 100 tracks, and i need to trag each of them to the right spot on the album 1 by 1 :(

2006-12-01 33523, 2006
FauxFaux
Turn down the fussiness enough and it'll do it just on track number.
2006-12-01 33535, 2006
warp
oh, how? where?
2006-12-01 33538, 2006
FauxFaux
So long as you're going to check them by hand anyway, it doesn't matter, and it beats the crap out of dragging.
2006-12-01 33551, 2006
warp
hm.. it gets the track number wrong though.
2006-12-01 33552, 2006
FauxFaux
Options, general, first percentage.
2006-12-01 33557, 2006
warp
probably have to rename them too.
2006-12-01 33556, 2006
FauxFaux
They've got no tags at all?
2006-12-01 33525, 2006
warp
not anymore.
2006-12-01 33514, 2006
warp
picard, in my experience, doesn't reliable wipe them when asked to.
2006-12-01 33544, 2006
warp
(and they were confusing some other tagger, so i figured the tags were broken :)
2006-12-01 33556, 2006
FauxFaux
Can't say I've ever used it for that.
2006-12-01 33548, 2006
FauxFaux
That's the 220 in MB tagged.
2006-12-01 33557, 2006
FauxFaux
12 mins, not too bad.
2006-12-01 33533, 2006
warp
ok, this will take some time for picard to move to 'unclustered'
2006-12-01 33542, 2006
Kerensky97
The MusicIP Mixer can tag tracks based off the PUID, it's not quite as accurate as MB but it might be good to get you in the right direction and then run them through Picard to get everything accurate.
2006-12-01 33502, 2006
FauxFaux
Heh, it never worked for me, Kerensky97. :)

2006-12-01 33504, 2006

these are the only ones available, possibly the only ones which exist.
Although I can't imagine compiling boost is high up your list of priorities.
2006-12-01 33506, 2006
warp
let's see what happens if i just clear them with this tagger, and let it write them again.

warp makes a stupid mistake.
2006-12-01 33543, 2006
FauxFaux really dislikes the tagging on http://musicbrainz.org/album/e0cb4433-6510-40a6-aa10-a039391b2fd1.html but isn't classical at all, anyone have even the slighteste interest in classical stuff?

Look at the track names, they need at least a hyphen in there or something. :)
FauxFaux wonders how warp uses oldpicard, anything like http://faux.uwcs.co.uk/picardguide/?

Ignore the PONY PINK arrows, they were only there to teach Muz a lesson.

i have to drag within picard itself, i'm not on windows and don't using any gui file manager thing on that old linux box.

yes, i'd like to run picard on os x.
2006-12-01 33552, 2006
warp
but haven't spent more than a few minutes in trying to get picardqt.
2006-12-01 33525, 2006
warp
anyway, there are still quite a few things i need to do which picard cannot do for me.
2006-12-01 33521, 2006
warp
after picard is done tagging, i go in to rename the directory 'CATNO ~ ARTIST - ALBUM (YEAR)'. if there is no catalog # in the annotation on musicbrainz, i have to find it and add it.
2006-12-01 33532, 2006
warp
then move the album over to a sort of quarantine area in my music directory, where it will sit until i've listened to it once or twice to catch obvious ripping/encoding errors, only then it moves into the music dir proper :)
2006-12-01 33528, 2006
FauxFaux
That's about 700 done so far, and I quit. :/
2006-12-01 33508, 2006

warp: And, wow, that's a far more paranoid sorting schema than me. ;)
2006-12-01 33513, 2006
warp
i have three albums done, and those apparantly had MBIDs, beceause picard found the albums itself.
2006-12-01 33539, 2006
FauxFaux just wants http://paste.axpr.net/?show=120849 to work.
2006-12-01 33516, 2006
warp has no idea what that does :)
2006-12-01 33541, 2006
FauxFaux
It sorts the playlist by the artist name /unless/ it's a va. release, at which point it sorts it by the release name.
2006-12-01 33504, 2006
FauxFaux
Plus some other things so I can remove cruft.
2006-12-01 33510, 2006
warp
ah, i don't think i have many various artist releases left.
2006-12-01 33527, 2006
warp
most of them have been moved to whoever compiled that collection.
2006-12-01 33543, 2006
FauxFaux
Hmmm.
2006-12-01 33553, 2006
warp
i wonder what could be an easy way to check my music dir for leftover various artists.

2006-12-01 33523, 2006
warp
just wondering why i can't seem to do it in this particular case.
Toran: for that reason a lot of releases are in musicbrainz in three different versions, japanese, japanese translated to english, and japanese transliterated to latin script.
2006-12-01 33514, 2006
warp
Toran: you can also somewhere instruct picard to use the sortname for an artist i think, so you also get that in latin.
2006-12-01 33533, 2006
Kerensky97
Yeah it's in options -> Language
2006-12-01 33538, 2006
Toran
Ah, ok, thanks

i can still copy/paste them in google and get relevant information.

it would be nice if my music player had an romaji engine thingy and you could select between original script vs transliterated with a toggle button :)
2006-12-01 33547, 2006
Toran
Mrg, I'm finding this single in kanji but not in romanji :(
2006-12-01 33549, 2006
Kerensky97
It's be nice if MB had the same feature as well ;)
2006-12-01 33505, 2006
Toran
That is another problem - consistency. Not all of them have multiple language sets
2006-12-01 33506, 2006
warp
Toran: you're free to add it.
2006-12-01 33511, 2006
Kerensky97
Toran: you'll either have to add the romaji yourself or deal with it.
