then again dmppanda, I listen to a lot of various different things just to see if maybe I'll like it.
      • I'm sure if there's anyone that watches my lastfm page they're sorta... hmm, thinking I'm very all over the place.
      • dmppanda
Nyght: I do the same. Got a lot of trip-hop / electro stuff, also good'ol Screamin Jay Hawkins, and countless other various things
      • Nyght
it's not the lyrics though.. it's that first, oh, fiften to thirty second intro
      • dmppanda
Nyght: I would just say my heart is in some few Jazzmen, while my feets can go anywhere it smells :p
      • Nyght
even the orchestration at ten seconds.. and it stops at about 14 seconds
      • I can appreciate that!
      • but most everyone here knows my fave is Klayton Scott's stuff. I think
      • dmppanda will go google Klayton Scott to avoid loosing the face immediatly by confessing huge ignorance
      • dmppanda
man ! google leads me straight to Nyghts last fm :D :D :D
      • Nyght
      • ;0
      • ;)
      • You're joking right?!
      • dmppanda
      • Nyght
<---has seen her profile on "become Nyght's myspace friend" but...
      • Nyght dances strongly!
      • yes!!!
      • dmppanda
lol. So, what does it sounds like? (under 1000 annotation so not to freak out perl parser :p)
      • toxickore joined the channel
      • meant 1000 chars
      • Nyght
Um..... wow, hmm, like a mix between upbeat synthesizers, mingled with low deep throbbing bass, and heart wrenching lyrics
      • dmppanda
I could possibly stand the heat :)
      • tele took-off?
      • dmppanda will try going back to mod and figure out where the hell is the end of Ayler stuff :p
      • Nyght
it looked like he was having a heck of a time with the stupid browser
      • Nyght pets and wishes him luck with Ayler
      • Nyght should get back to disney
      • dmppanda wouldn't like to be in Nyght mod-shoes and wishes good luck
      • ;) I chose it myself
      • dmppanda
        so do I, I guess :p
      • ttyl ;)
      • nechto13
Nyght: i partially know how it feels. i added all the members to israel philharmonic and took reflex apart
      • yllona joined the channel
      • Nyght
Wow! That sounds like quite an undertaking
      • yllona
musicip demo'd at Always On- Hollywood conference yesterday here in LA. They did an excellent job. archive video here: http://www.goingon.com/tekftp/archive.php?sessi... . MusicIp presentation begins 7:30 mins into the archive
      • actually 7:28 minutes, but take a look
      • all the presenters for Content Delivery Platforms - Music are here: http://onhollywood.goingon.com/?q=permalink/pos...
      • vendor presentations were "invite only" / pay your own way. interesting mix
      • dmppanda
hey yllona ;) how do you do?
      • yllona
dmppanda: tired. it's been a very long week :)
      • dmppanda
        week-end is here :p
      • yllona
wolf / dmppanda: here's the obscurity challenge... got this album?
      • yllona is listening to Ancient Source by Caldera from Sky Islands (1977) (0:13 / 4:26)
      • dmppanda will go google like for everything today obviously, showing the world his ignorance again :/
      • it's earth wind & fire + a very young dianne reeves + eddie del barrio arrangements. was marketed as jazz cross over on release. lots of airplay on R & B stations, and even (gasp) rock stations
      • dmppanda
        lol :p
      • yllona
        dmppanda: yep! that's it.
      • FM radio was really good "back in the day" ;)
      • oh and did mention that some of the members of weather report dropped in for the recording session
      • dmppanda
        nooooooooooo :D
      • really these guys went in every s..errrrrrrr place :D
      • dmppanda thought he would be moding but prefers messing with yllona :p
      • yllona
get this album. it's good. EWF had a long standing relationship with weather report / milton nascimento
      • dmppanda: i enjoy your company too :P
      • dmppanda
I think I'm living on just a bad preconcieved opinion about EWF - like, the one I got when I was a kid: "It's old pop stuff, it sucks" - I'll come to it :p
      • same with Weather Report. I lived too long with my childish extremist posture :p
      • Cecil Taylor or die for the breakfast :)
      • yllona
EWF started as a jazz band, a very good one. get the releases from the late '60s early seventies ... nothing after '78
      • dmppanda
heyhey, late 70's are... full of surprises! Oh! Surely you known the (in)famous Pointer Sisters?
      • yllona
dmppanda: loved them, sadly some of their early releases are out of print. before teh pop stuff.
      • yllona is listening to Carnavalito by Caldera from Sky Islands (1977) (0:05 / 4:51)
      • i *love* this track. EWF + weather report
      • teh late, great charles stepney producing / arranging
      • dmppanda laughs like a kid at the design of that page http://www.wholecircleround.co.uk/discovision/spins/stepney1.htm
      • trotek joined the channel
      • yeah, but the site is historicalyl accurate. stepney was notoriously "media shy"
      • *historically, sorry
      • dmppanda
        obviously well documented
      • yllona
yep. very good work here. this guy knows his liner notes :)
      • dmppanda
speaking of weather report... I was wondering in what shape were actually Wayne Shorter, so Herbie Hancock et al?
      • yllona
wayne shorter i elderly, but still kicking ass live and in the studio. herbie is still going strong, topped the charts on his last release
      • pls keep in mind that herbie was only 16 when he made his debut with miles davis
      • jaco died of overdose years ago. tony williams died of heart attack very young, couple of years back... at 51
      • dmppanda
        Is Jackie McLean alive?
      • yllona
        died recently
      • dmppanda
        :/
      • micr0c0sm has quit
      • yllona
        so many gone :(
      • i think let me check
      • dmppanda
        Left with Cecil Taylor :D
      • yllona
        he's still hangin' :)
      • dmppanda
which by the way was in a killer form a few years ago
      • with some kind of Italian obscure troop
      • yllona
he plays in the US fairly often
      • dmppanda
        lucky you :p - I bet you never miss a gig :D
      • yllona
i try not to. it's tough on the west coast. on the east coast i made every gig imagineable.
      • jackie mclean died march 31 this year.
      • dmppanda
erfmmmmm.... Waldron passed away a year or two ago also. Shame, I really fancied his later work.
      • yllona
jaki byard died under mysterious circumstances in '99.
      • dmppanda
Any young cat I (surely) don't know you would recommend for some fresh experience?
      • yllona
eric reed, marcus roberts, eric revis, jeff "tain" watts
      • roy hargrove
      • dmppanda
copy/pasted ;) [xcept Hargrove and Watts I know]
      • yllona
brad mehldau, don byron, greg osby, kenny garret, dave holland, robin eubanks, chris potter
      • basically work your way out from the m-base collective or the marsalis clan et. al.
      • dmppanda
Yeah, I loved one by Mehldau. Kenny Garret and Dave Holland didn't left me strong memorys but I'll get back there
      • yllona
        *clan, et. al
      • dmppanda
think I'll go burn a few bucks today :p
      • yllona
ravi coltrane, but he's not as talented as either of his parents :(
      • dmppanda
        nop :/
      • Got to go (almost 7h). Thanks a lot for the company yllona :). See ya soon
      • puneypunk has quit
      • yllona
        dmppanda: g'night
      • puneypunk joined the channel
      • dmppanda
Nyght, nikki_ (aslept I assume) : good nyght
      • Nyght
        good night dmppanda
      • rest well
      • nechto13
        night dmppanda
      • dmppanda
        nechto13: ;)
      • yllona plays for dmppanda's exit...
      • yllona is listening to Yamekraw by Marcus Roberts, Piano; Orchestra of St. Luke's, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra; Robert Sadin, Conductor from Portraits In Blue (1996) (0:11 / 20:42)
      • yllona
a little james p. johnson to send you on your way :)
      • timo-
Nyght, did you get a response to the second mail?
      • Nyght
I sure did and that's the correct track listing
      • timo-
        whee \o/
      • thanks a bunch :)
      • Nyght
You're welcome a bunch. :) glad they were so responsive!
      • nechto13
can someone give me a link to an artist consisting of 3 or more collab artists? all have to be person's though. yllona: you've added those, right?
      • yllona
nechto13: let me think i'm pretty much brain dead tonight, sorry
      • timo-
yep, me too. gotta appreciate a band that takes time to answer the questions of a couple of nitpickers
      • yllona
i think most of mine were "members of" or "performed as guest"
      • Nyght
Yep, and so quickly. That's I think what impressed me the most. :)
      • I gave them a link to see their band page. Who knows if they'll look, but.. it could be fun if they do. :D
      • timo-
        yeah :)
      • yllona
many, many artists are responsive if you ask an intelligent question, and are polite
      • Nyght
So far I agree yllona, but as myspace has gotten bigger, some of those artists aren't as quick to respond, if ever.
      • unless there's something to click your "name/face" in with them, then it's a bit different
      • yllona
many of the the "artists" don't create / operate the myspace band pages, it's filtered by the artist management company / record label. and the artists tehmselves might be on the road / touring
      • sony has been experimenting with myspace for acouple of years now... so had BMG
      • *has BMG
      • even the more succesful "indie" artists have handlers.
      • seriously though, the disintermediation is necesssary on myspace as the security model is very poor.
      • * security / privacy / age authentication
      • Nyght
yllona: I'm dealing with slightly "smaller" bands than most people.. but, yes, some of them have started to be monitored by management. :( (Still liked when Klayton did his own page)
      • I agree yllona, very much so on their lack of "secure" aspects.
      • yllona
nyght: it had to be. myspace screwed the pooch on security
      • Nyght
        yep
      • and the artists that do still handle their own spaces.. are bold
      • yllona
noone wants a 13 year old girl showing up at the back stage door ;)
      • Nyght
        or very small
      • LOL no doubt!
      • that's why there's people at the front carding!
      • :D
      • nechto13
Nyght: for The Music Behind The Magic disc set, how come you decided on using Volume instead of disc?
      • if there is no particular reason, would you mind if i formatted it according to box set style guideline?
      • Nyght
let me look into my mods
      • oh, they were purchased singly, they aren't a boxed set
      • Or... no, okay, now I have to find disc 1 and 1
