lauri has for the last hour, been trying to figure out how this darn submit a cd id thingy works
2006-05-11 13159, 2006
ruaok
night!
2006-05-11 13103, 2006
lauri
so I can maybe figure out why it doesnt, on freebsd
2006-05-11 13124, 2006
lauri
i dunno if i am just entirely windows challenged, or stoopid, or what, I cant do it :)
2006-05-11 13129, 2006
ruaok
how are you using it and what is giving you issues?
2006-05-11 13117, 2006
lauri
i put in a cd, and pressed the lookup cd button, and it looks it up -but there's nothing left to do in the picard window (should it pull back the cd info there? should itshow the id it has?, anything?)
2006-05-11 13141, 2006
ruaok
it should pop open the browser and take you to a submission screen
2006-05-11 13151, 2006
lauri
it could be our freebsd stuff is in fact working, it's just not doing the lookup part right
2006-05-11 13101, 2006
ruaok
did your browser go anywhere?
2006-05-11 13102, 2006
PRAEst76
default browser set right?
2006-05-11 13104, 2006
lauri
ok, whatabout an album that is already there, but doesnt have an id?
2006-05-11 13106, 2006
lauri
in windows it does, yes
2006-05-11 13124, 2006
ruaok
it should prompt you to associate it.
2006-05-11 13128, 2006
ruaok
but that is all server side.
2006-05-11 13143, 2006
ruaok
the client calcluates the submit id and then fires that off to the browser.
2006-05-11 13151, 2006
ruaok
the client is therefore no longer involved.
2006-05-11 13157, 2006
lauri
ok, that's the bit i am missing (and i will have to go through a whole lot more cd's to find one)
2006-05-11 13159, 2006
Muz
Hmmm, I just realised
2006-05-11 13108, 2006
lauri
so,if the browser doesnt open, it is definitely something going wrong in the client
2006-05-11 13112, 2006
Muz
I could probably send loads of DiscIDs off to MB everyday whenever I import label's music
2006-05-11 13120, 2006
ruaok
Muz: yes!
2006-05-11 13125, 2006
Muz wonders if it's worth the time and effort...
2006-05-11 13127, 2006
ruaok
I've been meaning to ask you about that.
2006-05-11 13130, 2006
Muz
Oh?
2006-05-11 13134, 2006
ruaok
I think it would be.
2006-05-11 13138, 2006
lauri goes back there then (thanks a bunch ruaok)
2006-05-11 13152, 2006
ruaok
If you can have picard open, just click the lookup button per CD.
2006-05-11 13100, 2006
Muz
I was thinking it over lots really, we get lots of new/undiscovered bands mailing in their CDs too, and I was wondering if it would be pratical to add the album to MB too
2006-05-11 13105, 2006
ruaok
I'm guessing a lot of CDs just need to be associated, not entered.
2006-05-11 13110, 2006
ruaok
lauri: np
2006-05-11 13113, 2006
Muz
You'd be surprised
2006-05-11 13150, 2006
flamingcow

2006-05-11 13155, 2006

2006-05-11 13100, 2006

I'll mention this to martin when we talk turkey...

Muz
Personally, I've been mulling this idea over, wondering how time effective it is (as I usually have other things I need doing too) but I suppose I'll give it a shot tomorrow and see if it gets in the way with much
2006-05-11 13110, 2006
nikki_
Muz: you're ripping them, right?
2006-05-11 13117, 2006
Muz
Amongst other things, yes
2006-05-11 13110, 2006
nikki_
hmm.
2006-05-11 13120, 2006
nikki_ thinks you should go for it then :P
2006-05-11 13140, 2006
Muz
I'll see how it goes tomorrow
2006-05-11 13144, 2006
ruaok
I'd like to see if we can get that written into your job description. :)
2006-05-11 13150, 2006
Muz
Haha
2006-05-11 13158, 2006
ruaok is not kidding
2006-05-11 13104, 2006
Kerensky97
You can lookup a CD in less time than it takes to rip a CD. As long as it's in the database.

2006-05-11 13121, 2006

The main thing that would consume time is adding a new album
2006-05-11 13128, 2006
ruaok
Muz: yep.
2006-05-11 13146, 2006
Muz
But I'll give it all a shot tomorrow with what discs I get thrown onto my desk :)

2006-05-11 13150, 2006

Kerensky97: depending on the speed of the cd drive, you could even add albums faster than ripping.
