luks: i don't understand the difference between lib<insert-a-name-here> and libtunepimp :)
      • luks: what's a tagging lib other than a reader/writer for metadata?
      • luks
my idea is to split libtunepimp into two libraries
      • so libtunepimp would use lib<insert-a-name-here>
      • fuchs
and what would libtunepimps job then?
      • +be
      • luks
non-blocking API, metadata lookups, filename generating, ...
      • but someone need to write a C client for the new WS
      • fuchs
ah, ok - and the lib<insert-a-name-here> wouldn't be much more than an extended taglib?
      • luks
        yes
      • fuchs
i see, thx for the clarification :)
      • luks
+ it would be able to generate PUIDS
      • lindestinel has quit
      • fuchs
luks: thought, that PUID thing was libofa's job
      • luks
        libofa only generates a fingerprint
      • doesn't decode the audio files
      • doesn't ask the musicdns server for puids
      • fuchs
ok, had no chance to look into the code yet :)
      • rowaasr13
I have files with both "MusicMagic Data" tag and MB IDs in it. So, what to do now to make Picard submit PUID? Or is it not working that way yet?
      • fuchs
rowaasr13: if there is no PUID yet, you can't submit one :)
      • rowaasr13: and if there is one, you will be able to send it to MB
      • ruaok
yeah, we certainly need a libmb version 3.0 for the new WS.
      • ruaok doesn't feel like writing that
      • ruaok fires up the lingling replacement server
      • are 9 servers enough to call a farm yet?

Hello. Has anyone had problems with Picard 0.7.0 memory consumption hitting the roof?
      • I just today downloaded Picard 0.7.0 (running on Windows ME), checked the box "Automatically analyze all new files" (to try out the new fingerprinting feature and (hopefully) feed some PUIDs to the DB), and threw a whole bunch of ripped CDs at it.
      • After a few minutes (maybe half an hour), Windows was thrashing like crazy, and System Monitor showed over 1GB (!) of swap in use. I ended up having to kill Picard at that point to bring the system back under control :(
      • When I restarted Picard without the auto-analyze option set, Picard had no problem coping with the same set of files, but then it won't let me analyze the files it automatically identifies, so I can't generate PUIDs for them that way :(

        Do you use Picard 0.7.0?

      • g0llum

I need that quick guide again and I can't find it in the legs

      • Shrike
Oh well, now I did find it.

'lo I finally got Picard working after a great deal of effort; there's just one remaining problem:
      • steps 3 and 4 from http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/HowToTagFilesWithPi... do not work because when Picard opens Mozilla, Mozilla just goes to a blank start page instead of the proper URL.
      • I am baffled and I don't know what I missed.
      • nechto13
        hello everyone
      • i see that ruoak is not around, does anyone happen to know how the search works? either the indexed or direct search? in relation to artist aliaseses
      • nikki_
        mhall: what OS?
      • mhall
        nikki_: Debian unstable + experiemental.
      • nikki_
nechto13: I know that the taglookup page doesn't understand aliases
      • mhall: it's probably something to do with the quoting in your BROWSER variable then
      • mhall
        nikki_: I'll check it.
      • nikki_
I got really annoyed one day and ended up using backslashes for everything instead of quotes, the silly thing ended up being twice as long :o
      • gaaah.
      • I want my bloody hour back
      • TVSeaOtter
Quick... drive west to the next time zone!
      • mhall
        nikki_: bloody hour?
      • mhall [at themhallbox]:/usr/src/picard$ export BROWSER="firefox '%s' &"
      • Is that decent, nikki_?
      • TVSeaOtter
Is it a 'feature' that picard doesn't load release dates that only contain the year?
      • luks
        no, it's a bug
      • TVSeaOtter
Okay... that means it'll probably get fixed at some point, so I'm happy then.
      • luks
        yep, it already is fixed
      • and the new version will be released later today, btw
      • BGreeNZ waits with excitement
      • just a lot of bugfixes in it, nothing interesting :)
      • nikki_
TVSeaOtter: well, I can't drive and there aren't any land connections to the next time zone...
      • plus, I don't know where the nearest one still on UTC+0 is
      • mhall watches Picard crank through his music
      • mhall: daylight savings, they stole my hour :(
      • mhall
nikki_: rat bastards are going to probably get mine soon then
      • nikki_: i still have nightmares about daylight saving brought on by working in the telecom industry
      • g0llum
uhm, sorry? it is cool that there's daylight for one more hour during summer
      • one can drink more beers
      • nikki_
I've been an hour late every day this week :/
      • g0llum
jetlag must be bad for you if one hour causes so much trouble? :)
      • nikki_
g0llum: I hate the way they keep changing the time
      • nope
      • g0llum
yep. all year daylight saving would be cool, too.
      • nikki_
I guess the problem with the hour is that it's so subtle
      • nothing changes, except I've gotta be everywhere an hour earlier
      • mhall
nikki_: I had to write the most horrid spaghetti code because of that hour.
      • nikki_
        oh?
      • mhall
g0llum: I'm a redneck; the only precondition to me drinking beer is me having beer to drink.
      • g0llum
        eheh
      • mhall
        g0llum: I'm only half-kidding.
      • g0llum
        same for me, too. :)
      • nikki_
with travelling, my entire schedule is different...
      • nechto13
hey g0llum, are you in charge of overhaulling CSG?
      • mhall
nikki_: Yeah, I dealt with billing. So you can imagine how, ehm, entertaining it is to work around that hour glitch twice a year.
      • g0llum
        donredman thought so, but no.
      • dunno if marco (clutcher2) wants to do it
      • if you want to jump in, please do
      • nikki_
like if I go to america, my schedule is no longer wake up at 8, bus at 8:30, class at 8:50 home at 16:10...
      • so right now my body is all 'why the fuck are you waking at 7, catching a bus at 7:30, class at 7:50 and coming home at 15:10? sod this, I'm still tired! zzz'
      • BGreeNZ
I have entered a ticket for the Picard problem outlined above. See http://test.musicbrainz.org/trac/ticket/1242
      • luks
        BGreeNZ: i'll look at it
      • and yes, picard has to decode 130 seconds of the file to the memory
      • which is usually about 40MB
      • nechto13
g0llum: hmm, so currently there is no one in charge? CSG anarchy? i don't want to be the go to guy on this, but i would prefer to sit on sidelines and throw out suggestions. i'd be willing to contribute as long as i don't get to make all the decisions
      • benjitz
i thought it was 2 mins for puids
      • luks
        no, 2:10
      • benjitz
        oh, k
      • BGreeNZ
luks: Problem is, it doesn't seem to be freeing it afterwards, or, if Python is GC, the G isn't being C'd :(
      • nechto13
g0llum: if it has been decided to split the wiki in multiple pages, each person who wants to contribute could work on just one page
      • nikki_
obviously the music is so good that it doesn't think it's garbage ;)
      • BGreeNZ
        lol
      • nikki_ has to go get the bus now
      • nikki_: Don't be late now
