They are not even allowed to *call* them "compact discs" or "CDs", as they intentionally break the standard

so i went through sonys little settlement thing last night

Notice how all the new double-disc jewel cases are embossed with "2DISC" instead of "2CD"

for one album they offered me a digital download

for the other they offered a digital download of the album and a choice of another album

but i cant get any of the downloads untill i .. either send them the cd, a reciept, or cut the UPC symbol off of the cover art

so i have to destroy my lossless media in exchange for lossy mp3s

The DVD drive in this computer has flawlessly extracted about 3 "Copy Controlled" discs

I don't have any more to try it out with (fortunately)

Of course, the first thing I did with one of them was to begin distributing it using my PTP. EMI screws me, I screw EMI :)

anyways, one of my professors that teaches our computer ethics course believes in essentially unfettered capitalism, where trade secrets, patents, and copyrights can be used to profit to an unlimited degree

and i constantly attempt to point out that capitalism doesn't work without the rule of law and a sense of social responsibility to society

but nobody cares and i always get ignored
