        crap.
      • rowaasr13
fuchs: pre-processing search string and replacing every katakana with (?:katakana|hiragana) and then feeding it to search wouldn't be too bad. At least it works very good with perlre's.
      • ruaok
yes the final index is 1.5gb.
      • fuchs
        yup, after optimize()
      • ruaok
it may need up to twice that to build it. IIRC
      • fuchs
        more than twice
      • but doesn't matter, the partly build index should work, lucene doesn't care
      • ruaok
that's why lucene is soooo cool. :-)
      • ok, I gotta go. back much later.
      • bye all!
      • fuchs
        baba
      • inhouseuk
        bye
      • yllona
        ba-bye!
      • fuchs
ruaok: btw, do you have a tracking number for the book? ;)

        I hate the evil empire
      • nechto13
what's the difference between PostgreSQL syntax and MSSQL syntax? other than the microsoft one is evil
      • fuchs
        nechto13: don't know :)
      • shouldn't be much different
      • at least if MS respects the SQL standard ;)
      • yllona
fuchs: the MS version is "enhanced" or "extended" like everything else from MS. so there are some add'l comds not recognized by other SQL engines
      • fuchs
        feared something like this ;)
      • inhouseuk
      • nechto13
i'm sufficiently familiar with MSSQL and i've programmed in c++ for awhile for windows. is there anything in particular that needs to be done? if not then i'll just keep on modding and won't stick my nose in dev-related MB business
      • yllona
just make sure you're not using any of the MS specific extensions. :P
      • fuchs
+ for string concatenation doesn't work in postgresql (use ||), TOP doesn't exists (use LIMIT), LIKE is case sensitive
      • nechto13
i'll take the silence as no need for my involvement
      • fuchs
        hmm?
      • involvement in what? :)
      • nechto13
i was saying that i'm sufficiently familiar with MSSQL and i've programmed in c++ for awhile for windows. is there anything in particular that needs to be done? if not then i'll just keep on modding and won't stick my nose in dev-related MB business
      • fuchs
        aaaah, didn't read this ;)
      • inhouseuk
ah, there's always things that can be done,
      • fuchs
of course take a look at the bug list, and the plans in the wiki
      • nechto13: but first, try to install the server and get it running, then try to understand the structure and meaning of the code ;)
      • nechto13: this will keep you busy for a few weeks ;o)

      • nechto13
        fuchs: where should i start?
      • DraX
the if never seems to pass

      • fuchs
        nechto13: at "first"? ;)
      • inhouseuk
at first, I'd say grab the server stuff out of cvs and attempt to set it up. when it's running browse around the code
      • teleGUISE
not critical but on a collaboration album such as = http://musicbrainz.org/album/995790b4-6ed3-41d9... should the artist be categorized as a person, group or are we just leaving these open.. its really person(s) ?
      • fuchs
nechto13: see? now you got the suggestion 2 times :)
      • inhouseuk is still at the digging around the code stage
      • nechto13
i'm not under unix and i haven't used cvs. i'll need some sort of assistance. at least give me a link to something
      • fuchs
you want to install it on windows?
      • nechto13
or should i switch to unix first?
      • fuchs
        hmm, someone built vmware-snapshots
      • nechto13: i doubt the server will work on windows
      • but i'm not 100% sure, at least it will be much harder to get it running ;)
      • inhouseuk wouldn't want to try
      • nechto13 has always taken the road less traveled and always regretted it :}
      • inhouseuk
it's never too late to start learning unix
      • DraX
        ahhh figured it out
      • was missing a select call
      • nechto13
inhouseuk, quite possible, but i'm not ready for OS change yet. i'm still programming for windows. i'm planning to switch though. it's one of my new year resolutions :) i anticipate it will happen in the next 4-5 months though
      • fuchs
nechto13: don't switch, install it parallel
      • if you are rich, you can even use vmware ;)
      • nechto13
i'll have both operating systems, but i'm planning to give up on using wiondows, cause it's pure evil
      • inhouseuk
just see unix as an additional platform
      • that's true
      • I have both, my servers are unix (FreeBSD mainly), but I normally use windinoze as a desktop
      • DraX
freebsd on most of my machines :)
      • LTjake has quit
      • nechto13
there's no way i'll learn unix if i'll stick to using windows outside of dev. it'll be hell, but i'm willing to go through switching completely out of it

      • inhouseuk waits for the but....
      • thank for for the new Spanish capitalization
      • no but, i hope... :-)

        :)

nikki has some other rules about sorting that i sent this afternoon(here), if she didn't erase the emails

Koreans seems to be really obsessed with StarCraft.
      • They have album with tracks based on SC theme performed by popular korean bands ranging from metal to pop: http://kr.music.yahoo.com/m_music/album.asp?aid....
      • fuchs
W: Bizarre Error - File size is not what the server reported 189 378 <- never seen such an error msg ;)
      • rowaasr13
And just a few days when I heard "Loner" of "T.T.MA" (5-girls pop group) I've heard there some vague english text in its intro that was strangely familiar.
      • After listening closely I recognized "Awaken my child, and embrace the glory that is your birthright. Know that I am the Overmind; the eternal will of the Swarm, and that you have been created to serve me..." directly ripped from start of Zerg campaign.
      • Muz
Lots of music is ripping other stuff, the trick to be successful is to make it inconspicuous
      • chixpy
        bye
      • chixpy has quit
      • nechto13
muz, being incospicuous is not important as long as the artist can get away with it
      • Muz
But one has to be cunning
      • Like a fox!
      • nechto13
or as i like to say the artist just has to vanilla ice it :P
      • rowaasr13
They're not ripping - they citing it. Almost like every damn korean group not depending on genre.
      • Muz hasn't seen any foxes in his backgarden for a long time :( He misses his oversized ginger, but oh so cute and badass, vermin
      • nechto13, OMG, now we've got udaff/kaschenko style in MB too: http://musicbrainz.org/showartist.html?artistid....
      • nechto13
i've seen it. it's right. very strange group though
      • rowaasr13
Nah, it is group itself who uses that style. Now we only need "Cradle of Kaschenko" here and we'll be all set.
      • fuchs
        what's strange with this?
      • fuchs is just curious :)
      • rowaasr13
Puzi-black metal as CoK calls their style. :)
      • Muz is reminded of CoF for some reason
      • Muz crings
      • Muz
        *cringes
      • rowaasr13
Becaused it based on CoF's name.
      • Muz
Is the "music" based on Cradle of Shite too?
      • rowaasr13
It's site, song names and lyrics are based on popular style of perversing russian spelling originated in SU.KASCHENKO.LOCAL and udaff.com. Kaschenko is, in turn, name of russian psychiatric clinic that was named after known russian psychiatrist.
      • No, they music is pure psychodelic madness. :) It is more of a inside joke for SKL regulars than a real group.
      • nechto13
fuchs: if you understood russian you'd know. although track 3 here http://musicbrainz.org/album/e078cfb7-7ef7-4740... would look strange for anyone i'd guess
      • rowaasr13
Puzi- in puzi-black metal comes from russian translation of Teletubies, where they were called "Telepuziki".
      • fuchs
nechto13: i can at least read it and understand a bit
      • nechto13
        metal based on teletubbies. (lol)
      • fuchs
puzi makes me reading it pussy
      • Muz
        O.o
      • I'm with fuchs on that
      • Albeit fuchs makes me think to myself "fucks" heh
      • fuchs
Muz: tss, don't always think with you dick ;)
      • Muz
Nah it's just that I was raised in England and thus learnt English and it's crappy phonetics system
      • rowaasr13
        Like reading SCSI as sext?
      • * sexy.
      • Muz
"scuzzy" is how I see it
      • fuchs
don't let ruaok hear that ;)
      • Muz
        Hmm?
      • fuchs
        nevermind ;)
      • Muz
Fair do;s, it is almost 4am here afterall and I've resorted to boring myself to sleep with a Triathlon race on tv >.<
      • fuchs
nechto13: so it's just a strange style of formatting the title?
      • rowaasr13
        Almost 07:00 here.
      • inhouseuk
      • rowaasr13
And I really need to go to sleep if I want to wake up earlier than evening!
      • Muz should sleep, he can't say "screw it" to college again :|
      • ojnkpjg
        it worked for me
      • the "screw it" approach
      • i once had to take a networking class for my major
      • Muz
College term started almost a month ago, and out of that I've been to 1 ICT lesson and 2 maths lessons and that's it
      • ojnkpjg
i went to the first class meeting and the two exams
      • after that semester, the guy who taught the class showed up at the apt. i was living in at the time
      • a friend of mine who was also living there was doing his master's, so he knew this guy
      • Muz is too damn geeky, seeing "apt" he immediately had apt-get spring to mind
      • but i answered the door
      • i told him i was in his networking class, and he said he didn't remember me
      • i told him it's probably because i only went to one class
      • Muz
        Haha, awesome
      • I plan to get by on minimal time spent in college it's a long story and so on, but I dislike being in college a lot
      • teleGUISE has quit
      • ojnkpjg
i enjoyed being a college student a lot
      • enough to make me consider going to grad school
      • until i came to my senses
      • Muz
I find the whole environment and various things attached to it rather depressing and eeh and it really leaves me in a sour mood/shitty mood most days so I figure it's easier to just avoid it :)
      • ojnkpjg
guess it depends on the situation
      • Muz
And the person for that matter too
      • ojnkpjg
        yes
      • inhouseuk
I found with most technical subjects, the course work is behind the current level of the subject. You only really learn the subject after you've left education and start working in a related industry
      • Muz
The coursework is a real drag in ICT indeed, and I have a habit of calling all of the "lessons" in the formatting just used because the "s seem rather appropriate
      • nechto13
when doing transliteration, am i still using russian capitalisation standards?
