depends on the pc.. super cpu's mask a lot of that... other thing is you have to block an entire url and many url's have there own image server so you either get all or nothing

anyone think it makes sense that in the releationship area when displaying a Amazon asin the Album title is hyperlinked to the mb album id with the asin # just in bold... why not make it hyperlink to the -actual- url added as well??
      • 2006-02-28 05954, 2006

like all the other AR entries ... for example - http://musicbrainz.org/showalbum.html?albumid=279…

yes.. but we (lukz,g0llum & I) found a problem with that..

      • 2006-02-28 05916, 2006

      • inhouseuk
it's only a problem in the instances where their store doesn't stock that ASIN

      • teleGUISE_
correct... just though since all the other AR's are hyperlinked.. why not hyperlink to the original url set as well for shits n gigles since all the info is there anyway
      • 2006-02-28 05954, 2006

      • inhouseuk
teleGUISE_: to be honest it's an amazon problem. You don't really want to redirect users to an amazon store that isn't in their country. Yes, I can and have bought from amazon.com and amazon.ca but the postal costs can be excessive and for certain higher value items they can incure import duty. The user could blame MB for these additional costs

      • 2006-02-28 05935, 2006

      • inhouseuk
teleGUISE_: again that might direct them to a non local store, for the reasons stated just now, you don't want to do that
      • 2006-02-28 05902, 2006

      • inhouseuk
by displaying just the ASIN, MB can't be to blame, it's an amazon problem
      • 2006-02-28 05927, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
inhouseuk: huh?? how would it redirect them to anything different then the actual image link?
      • 2006-02-28 05949, 2006

      • 2006-02-28 05943, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
ok.. but i dont understand how it could/would be different if whatever link the image goes to you just make the asin go to the same... maybe label it Foobar can be purchased at ASIN and hyperlink it.. not that there would be large amounts but it gives people with text surfing the ability to make use of it as well.. just another possible revenue source

        which mod added the asin?
      • 2006-02-28 05953, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
ok it shows No Image Available.. but clicking on it still goes to the US amazon if either logged in or as a generic user
      • 2006-02-28 05938, 2006

      • inhouseuk
yes, as I said it defaults to amazon.com
      • 2006-02-28 05910, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
ok so what makes that any different
      • 2006-02-28 05926, 2006

gateway error... can't look up my asin entry
      • 2006-02-28 05956, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
sure would be nice if that was listed under "album" edits since ummm thats what it is ;)

      • teleGUISE_
but i know it's one of those crazy mb table thingies
      • 2006-02-28 05945, 2006

      • inhouseuk
because if they are logged in, we should always direct them to their local store, even if the asin isn't available there
      • 2006-02-28 05916, 2006

      • inhouseuk
otherwise we would be ignoring their preference

okay that mod would actually been applied to the DB at 01:00 UTC and would have been in the replication packet generated at 2006-02-28 01:01:10.67890 UTC

      • inhouseuk
I don't know when or how often the .nl server grabs replication packets
      • 2006-02-28 05946, 2006

      • inhouseuk
I attempt to grab the next one at 7 minutes past each hour
      • 2006-02-28 05947, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
well like i said the de nor the test server has the info..
      • 2006-02-28 05909, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
ii manually added the asin to the test server now
      • 2006-02-28 05933, 2006

      • inhouseuk
I believe the test server has static data, you can't login to a replicated server
      • 2006-02-28 05934, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
so why dont i get images from your server?
      • 2006-02-28 05933, 2006

      • inhouseuk
without look at the code and that specific album I'm not certain

Just updated http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/HowToMergeArtists with info on multiple-named artists (if that makes sense)

      • teleGUISE_
heres manually added buy links on the test server, along with asin - http://test.musicbrainz.org/showalbum.html?albumi…
      • 2006-02-28 05943, 2006

      • inhouseuk
so, what are you trying to prove? I given you all the reason why it isn't sensible to do with the amazon links and you continue to ignore what I am saying
      • 2006-02-28 05901, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
does the first link take you to where your supposed to go?
      • 2006-02-28 05953, 2006

      • inhouseuk
it takes me to the amazon.com which is not the store I have set
      • 2006-02-28 05919, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
and clicking the image does something different?
      • 2006-02-28 05923, 2006

      • inhouseuk
clicking on the album art takes me to amazon.co.uk which is where I would want to buy the album
      • 2006-02-28 05950, 2006

      • teleGUISE_
        so your loggin in
      • 2006-02-28 05954, 2006
