ruaok: no weed (thankfully) but I do work with a lot of unsigned musicians, so end of doing a lot of "pro bono" tech support as the musicians attempt to market their music.

this thing has sound, doesn't it?

i do have one friend on Cdbaby who's interested in the weed implementation though. we'll work on that when he gets back from the UK.

weedshare is a heavily DRM'd P2P network (windows media) that rewards it's users for sharing files.
ruaok thinks weed is a terrible name for a music service/system

i think it's overly complex. a musician has to submit media field to a specialiized service to be encoded with the weed DRM, and only then can the files be placed on the network.
2005-05-18 13836, 2005
ruaok
mo: you want a 2.4 file?
2005-05-18 13841, 2005
g0llum
yllona: i guess you couldnt let users do the packaging themselves. drm *is* complex :/

ruaok: ah, you are back. they told me that I should talk to you if I wanted a pointer or two to find the unicode mess/problem in picard. I was looking trough the code the other day, but couldn't really figure out if the problem was in tunepimp or in picard. I would gladly help you with it if you gave me a few directions.

weed does seem to be very popular in the Christian music space

ruaok: basically I said that if you wanted to test the 2.4 thing on a windows system with a different set of iso(or what you call it. and etc is all good in the mbtagger to me) you can send me a thing liek you did cikkolata
2005-05-18 13827, 2005

And one that may very well be fixed now.

ruaok: Yeah I figured that. Because picard was using utf8 everywhere. but it seems like when you write the tag to the file it was written as utf8 even if the tag was version 2.3
2005-05-18 13822, 2005

g0llum: yep, i agree, but there must be some sort desktop tools that could be used. The thought of shipping of unreleased music to some "service" kind of makes me nervous. BTW, the encoding/DRM is a for fee service

from what I was looking at earlier, almost nothing on windows supports v2.4 Some stuff would take utf-16 with bom in v2.4, a lot would choke on that, and nothing did utf8 in 2.4 100% correct
2005-05-18 13814, 2005

ruaok: sure. I'd have a look at the code when I am not sooo sooo tierd. Just came home from musicfestival in germany. 24hours on the bus and four days of alcohol and dancing ;)

2005-05-18 13830, 2005

DJKC: it should write 2.3 tags with 2.4 as option IMHO

where do you live?

I'm really getting the idea that I need to keep 2.3 support.
2005-05-18 13824, 2005
cikkolata
ruaok: I *told* you windows users would be wanting utf-16 :P
2005-05-18 13829, 2005
DJKC
tru_: I'd prefer options for 2.3 or 2.4 and suboptions for iso8859, utf16 with bom, utf8, etc
2005-05-18 13837, 2005
tru_
DJKC: well...
2005-05-18 13842, 2005

cikkolata: utf-16 in 2.4 worked in foobar and itunes
2005-05-18 13845, 2005
ruaok
DJKC: agreed.
2005-05-18 13856, 2005

as much as I hate having to add more options like that, we need it.
2005-05-18 13859, 2005

id3v2 specifies what unicode that should be used.
2005-05-18 13859, 2005

does it need to be 2.3 for wmp?
2005-05-18 13809, 2005
