I've got a friend who is using some crappy windows based tools.

he asks if one could construct a regexp to find two occuranges of strings on the same line.

what strings?

so: find all lines that contain STRING1 and STRING2

and what flavour regexp?

grep STRING1 <file> | grep STRING2 <file>

he didn't specify.

yes, that was my suggestion as well.

But he is using some third party software that lets him search with regexps

so cygwin won't help him.

so... something like: ((STRING1.*STRING2)|(STRING2.*STRING1))

there's also Vim, that comes in Win32 flavour and has regexp support.
