anyone who's awake, can you explain why that is still possible?
2005-10-08 28158, 2005
SenRepus
teleGUISEr, i see YOU are awake
2005-10-08 28144, 2005
SenRepus
i think my favorite thing to fix in the DB is single artist albums that should be VA, or VA albums with their artists/tracks switched
2005-10-08 28159, 2005

Knio is now known as Knio-sleep

SenRepus: with the no email addresses. From what I can make out. They add one that isn't valid, submit a mod and the validation routine then removes the email address from the profile as it's not valid
2005-10-08 28100, 2005
SenRepus
ahhh...
2005-10-08 28114, 2005
SenRepus
then they get to keep editing without one?
2005-10-08 28109, 2005
teleGUISEr
Where have they edited anything?? They are free to add information w/o an email address.
2005-10-08 28156, 2005
SenRepus
that mod i linked to was by someone who doesnt have an email address
2005-10-08 28118, 2005
teleGUISEr
exactly show me an edit mod
2005-10-08 28118, 2005
SenRepus
you're not supposed to be able to mod at all without an email address, right?
2005-10-08 28140, 2005
teleGUISEr
Not tru.. They are not -mod-erating in the sense we/you are thinking
2005-10-08 28158, 2005
SenRepus
they can add data but not edit it?
2005-10-08 28103, 2005
teleGUISEr
They are free to add data.. (ie.. Trms/albums/disc id's) w/o an email address
2005-10-08 28109, 2005
teleGUISEr
CORRECT ;)
2005-10-08 28120, 2005
SenRepus
no sir, i dont like it.
2005-10-08 28138, 2005
teleGUISEr
then that would be a closed system.. Robert doesn't want that
2005-10-08 28140, 2005
SenRepus
(to quote a large yak from a cartoon)
2005-10-08 28108, 2005
teleGUISEr
everyone is free to add data .. he wants to impose no restrictions, no prejudices.. yadda yadda yadda
2005-10-08 28158, 2005
SenRepus
if you can add an album to MB you can make a yahoo account...
2005-10-08 28142, 2005
teleGUISEr
you don't have to convince me... but the idea is to limit bogus activity not prevent it
2005-10-08 28154, 2005
fuchs
sen, as lng as teleguise is there to fix all those entries, it's fine to add w/o an email-address ;)
2005-10-08 28116, 2005
teleGUISEr
ha ha... I knew that was coming ;)
2005-10-08 28150, 2005
fuchs

2005-10-08 28123, 2005
teleGUISEr

2005-10-08 28152, 2005
SenRepus

2005-10-08 28105, 2005
fuchs

2005-10-08 28111, 2005
teleGUISEr
fuchs, have you spoke with Paul regarding any of the trm issues?
2005-10-08 28112, 2005
inhouseuk
teleGUISEr: I've just checked, you can't add an album without an email address stored
2005-10-08 28117, 2005
SenRepus
hm, i was under the impression that the DB could handle larger than 99 track albums?
2005-10-08 28119, 2005
teleGUISEr
oops now I asked you a question
2005-10-08 28122, 2005
fuchs
paul? wtf is paul?
2005-10-08 28131, 2005
SenRepus
lol
2005-10-08 28148, 2005
teleGUISEr
Paul Taylor... I know you saw the name in the mailing lists.. Mr Comedian ;)
2005-10-08 28127, 2005
fuchs
what was his issue again? have such a bad memory at night :)
2005-10-08 28143, 2005
teleGUISEr
oh dont worry for now.. go to bed .. we'll chat later
2005-10-08 28109, 2005
fuchs

2005-10-08 28128, 2005
teleGUISEr
inhouse.. Ok didnt know I had to walk on nails when I spoke..exactly ;)
2005-10-08 28143, 2005
teleGUISEr
fuchs, to be honest I dont remember now ... ha ha hee hee
2005-10-08 28113, 2005
fuchs
paul was the jaikoz guy
2005-10-08 28140, 2005
teleGUISEr
something regarding taking the data and figuring out what really could be removed to trim the trm db down w/o pruning (random*) data
2005-10-08 28153, 2005
teleGUISEr
actually not sure about the jaikoz
2005-10-08 28154, 2005
fuchs
i didn't say anything in this thread because my oipinion didn't change :)
2005-10-08 28137, 2005
teleGUISEr
now I confoozed.. which was?
2005-10-08 28106, 2005
fuchs
scrap trms :)
2005-10-08 28142, 2005
teleGUISEr
ok now I dont like you.. go to bed ;)
2005-10-08 28106, 2005
fuchs
tele, you've seen it yourself when trying to fix up some mess with the dupe-trm report, it doesn't work :)
2005-10-08 28119, 2005
inhouseuk doesn't trms either
2005-10-08 28130, 2005
SenRepus
i think we need to do whats best overall, which is get rid of TRMs... however, i also believe they have a lot of potential
2005-10-08 28142, 2005
fuchs
wait 2 more weeks and we have exactly the same number of broken trms as before the report
2005-10-08 28110, 2005
fuchs
i never needed trms to identify one song
2005-10-08 28113, 2005
teleGUISEr
yea... the last cruasde was quite disappointing... wore my fingers and drove your hard drive crazy just to have a 1k increase
2005-10-08 28154, 2005
teleGUISEr
there are so many if's.. I still think a managed trm base could be an assett
2005-10-08 28155, 2005
fuchs
if someone can't identify a song he has without trms he has too much music on his hd :)
2005-10-08 28132, 2005
teleGUISEr
ok ... guilty ;) .. Not exactly it was friends messes that originally landed me at MB ..
2005-10-08 28121, 2005
inhouseuk
fuchs: more likely too much illegal music.
2005-10-08 28140, 2005
fuchs
didn't want to say that, but yes, indeed :)
2005-10-08 28144, 2005
teleGUISEr
no truthfully not.. I friend inbetween switching connections
2005-10-08 28150, 2005
inhouseuk can always identify his music by listening to it :)
2005-10-08 28117, 2005
teleGUISEr
ripped over 100 discs w/Windows Media Player and thought when he reconnected it would find them all... Wrong!! It found like 5
2005-10-08 28158, 2005
teleGUISEr
Musicbrainz found 28... By trm's alone.. Then combining tracks it found I determined the artist and walla had 97 w/o having to grab the discs back out and in a shorter time.
2005-10-08 28100, 2005
fuchs
find a better ripper :)
2005-10-08 28119, 2005
inhouseuk
ouch! ripping using wmp is painful
2005-10-08 28124, 2005
teleGUISEr
Hey I said friends.. ok people i Know cuz friends should no better
2005-10-08 28146, 2005
teleGUISEr
Ripping using wmp is stupid... He no longer does so of course ;)
2005-10-08 28140, 2005
fuchs
ripping a complete album means ripping all tracks means having all track times, there is no problem in integrating a search for "virtual-tocs" to identify the album without any other meta-data :)
2005-10-08 28150, 2005
inhouseuk
fuchs: if you have the album, you already know the details and it might be possible to match it on discid anyway
2005-10-08 28152, 2005
teleGUISEr
so is the coding done yet? Hmm I wonder what search time would be on that algo..
2005-10-08 28127, 2005
inhouseuk
what is need it a plugin for a good ripper that pulls the metadata from MB instead of freedb
2005-10-08 28106, 2005
teleGUISEr
I've just recently emailed Andre (eac)
2005-10-08 28151, 2005
inhouseuk
:) that would do it
2005-10-08 28159, 2005
fuchs
but... i'm off now for my own sake i need my sleep, have fun and see me later ;)
