      • cikkolata
        any reason you're asking?
      • 2005-01-02 00248, 2005

      • cikkolata
we're kinda quiet in here :/
      • 2005-01-02 00237, 2005

      • Cali^Gal
Well..I've been using the software this weekend and it kinda bugs on something, but maybe I'm not using a setting or not using it properly.

      • Cali^Gal
If a song has a specific TRM number, why doesn't the list of possible matching songs show by a matching TRM number?
      • 2005-01-02 00254, 2005

      • Cali^Gal
And the search function when I use the TRM number.. it wants the WHOLE thing instead of allowing for a partial number search.
      • 2005-01-02 00224, 2005

      • cikkolata
not sure about the first, the second is probably because a partial search is pretty useless
      • 2005-01-02 00228, 2005

      • Cali^Gal
No..I mean.. if I can post 10 letters and a part of the song title, that would be an easier list to pull, instead of 6 letters that it won't search for.
      • 2005-01-02 00221, 2005

      • cikkolata
but why would you only know 10 of the letters?
      • 2005-01-02 00228, 2005

      • Cali^Gal
Not that I know only 10 letters, but because I've noticed that you cannot highlight and copy and paste a TRM # and if you make 1 mistake, you'll have a completely different song, than what you were searching for.
      • 2005-01-02 00204, 2005

      • cikkolata
I'm not sure, I don't really use the windows tagger :/

      • Cali^Gal
You said you use the software.

I use the site, which is also musicbrainz.

      • Cali^Gal
        What's the difference?
      • 2005-01-02 00233, 2005

      • cikkolata
the tagger uses the site, so do a few other things
      • 2005-01-02 00248, 2005

      • 2005-01-02 00223, 2005

      • cikkolata
I don't really use it, but I can try to answer
      • 2005-01-02 00233, 2005

      • ikari_
well before i hit the almighty tag and rename button, what does the client do if it encounters two of the same songs and tries to rename them? i dont want to accidentally have a lower bitrate copy of a file overwrite a decent one
      • 2005-01-02 00203, 2005

      • cikkolata
I think it puts (1) after the name
      • 2005-01-02 00224, 2005

        then (2), (3), etc.

      • lenner1
i've been desperately searching the internet for a couple of hours for a decent gtk musicbrainz client that approximates the functionality of MBTagger, alas to no effect
      • 2005-01-02 00217, 2005

      • lenner1
        very frustrating
      • 2005-01-02 00235, 2005

      • cikkolata
the only gtk thing I know of is picard
      • 2005-01-02 00253, 2005

      • lenner1
        that doesn't build here :-s
      • 2005-01-02 00203, 2005

      • cikkolata
        why not?
      • 2005-01-02 00210, 2005

      • mkf
it took me a good amount of time and some hacking to get picard to work for me
      • 2005-01-02 00217, 2005

      • cikkolata
the dependencies can be a complete pain in the arse

      • mkf
cikkolata: is there still active development on picard?
      • 2005-01-02 00249, 2005

      • mkf
(that's actually why I dropped by this channel)
      • 2005-01-02 00254, 2005

      • cikkolata
I thought that, until I had to compile everything picard wanted (except python) by hand
      • 2005-01-02 00227, 2005

      • cikkolata
right now, no, ruaok's busy working on AR, but I think he's planning to work on picard next or something
      • 2005-01-02 00235, 2005

      • mkf
        what is AR?

      • 2005-01-02 00217, 2005

      • lenner1
i hope picard is being developed in c#, and it should be if they want to be cross-plat
      • 2005-01-02 00232, 2005

      • mkf
        pfft!
      • 2005-01-02 00244, 2005

      • mkf
(it's in python, which is a better cross-plat choice imho)

        mono and all
      • 2005-01-02 00244, 2005

      • cikkolata
I don't really think mono is far enough along, really.
      • 2005-01-02 00213, 2005

      • lenner1
isn't python a bit slow (I remember pySoulseek ugh)
      • 2005-01-02 00249, 2005

      • cikkolata
it doesn't seem slow to me.
      • 2005-01-02 00202, 2005

      • cikkolata
it uses c++ for some stuff too
      • 2005-01-02 00238, 2005

      • mkf
Yeah, the nicotine python slsk client seems totally reasonable for me
      • 2005-01-02 00248, 2005

      • mkf
cikkolata: so picard is actually usable for you?
      • 2005-01-02 00254, 2005

      • cikkolata
        yep
      • 2005-01-02 00209, 2005

      • mkf
cikkolata: when I dragged files from the file view to the "drag here to tag", I got an exception and everything stopped working
      • 2005-01-02 00220, 2005

      • mkf
        should I do something else?
      • 2005-01-02 00229, 2005

      • cikkolata
        bizarre
      • 2005-01-02 00241, 2005

      • cikkolata
you could try adding files from the file menu
      • 2005-01-02 00236, 2005

      • mkf
well, to get to this point, I had to fix another exception related to an incorrect type being passed to the wx library
      • 2005-01-02 00257, 2005

      • mkf
so it's possible that I have a slightly different set of library versions and that's one of the problems
      • 2005-01-02 00218, 2005

      • cikkolata
quite possible, picard's currently really picky about libraries
      • 2005-01-02 00231, 2005

      • cikkolata
I've found that older ones generally work, then give you obscure errors
      • 2005-01-02 00244, 2005

      • mkf
I have a sligthly newer version of wxWhatever then was listed
      • 2005-01-02 00257, 2005

      • mkf
oh, so maybe that's the problem?
      • 2005-01-02 00216, 2005

      • cikkolata
hmm, I don't think a newer version would be the problem
      • 2005-01-02 00231, 2005

      • mkf
        oh now its working
      • 2005-01-02 00203, 2005

      • mkf
hey while I'm at it, is it possible to add an album to the musicbrainz library that's *not* on freedb?
      • 2005-01-02 00221, 2005

      • lenner1
any chance of picard running in wine ?
