it has crossed my mind a few times, I wonder if part of the reason (besides the tagger not being usable for it) that there isn't very much for Japanese artists on MB is that they generally always have a complete discography available on their website or label site. Every time I try to look up a Spanish or English artist I'm filled with hate for the lack of easy info on their websites
2005-01-08 00859, 2005
ruaok
I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.
2005-01-08 00803, 2005
DJKC
sort of less of a need as it were
2005-01-08 00817, 2005
cikkolata
I've noticed that
2005-01-08 00823, 2005
DJKC
however spanish artists are the devil.
2005-01-08 00826, 2005
ruaok
Consider this: if the labels in the US were friendly to online sales and released their own stuff in mp3 with clean metadata, there woulbe less reason for MB to exsit.
2005-01-08 00828, 2005
DJKC
at least the few I've looked up recently
2005-01-08 00847, 2005
cikkolata
japanese artists have every tiny little detail and then english ones only mention they have an album once
2005-01-08 00841, 2005
DJKC
I'm also amused that if not directly on the artist's site then it generally only takes half a minute on any of a few major, licensed lyrics sites to find all the lyrics to a song
2005-01-08 00804, 2005
cikkolata
for japanese artists?
2005-01-08 00832, 2005
DJKC
yes
2005-01-08 00841, 2005
DJKC
uta-net and utamap
2005-01-08 00830, 2005
DJKC
jasrac used to have a really nice search for finding every song an artist was credited on, but I couldn't find it the last time I went to use it
2005-01-08 00845, 2005
DJKC
cikkolata: as another amusing note to the pattern - http://www.toshiba-emi.co.jp/radiohead/disco/inde… Japanese web site has a nice, full discography for them. Their English website seems to be something designed to make people want to never visit it more than once
2005-01-08 00805, 2005
DJKC
or possibly that's just my reaction, randomly clicking stuff for about a minute hasn't gotten me to any actual site that I can tell -_-;
2005-01-08 00828, 2005
lgonze has quit
2005-01-08 00822, 2005
DJKC
hate filing split artist EPs. seems so messy to stick them under VA
2005-01-08 00815, 2005
cikkolata
:/
2005-01-08 00815, 2005
ruaok
hey, what do you guys think of this more condensed view of AR relationships?
I think an and before the last one would be nicer though
2005-01-08 00802, 2005
ruaok nods
2005-01-08 00810, 2005
ruaok
so would a plural
2005-01-08 00817, 2005
cikkolata
that too
2005-01-08 00819, 2005
cikkolata laughs
2005-01-08 00820, 2005
ruaok
and is/was member
2005-01-08 00836, 2005
ruaok
and the edit links should be against the right hand column.
2005-01-08 00847, 2005
ruaok
and we'll never be able to read the resultant perl code
2005-01-08 00848, 2005
ruaok
:-)
2005-01-08 00806, 2005
cikkolata
that's half the fun! >:D
2005-01-08 00825, 2005
ruaok
I've been writing some perls that looks remarkably like line noise.
2005-01-08 00831, 2005
ruaok swore he never would
2005-01-08 00835, 2005
ruaok
I blame it on djce
2005-01-08 00843, 2005
cikkolata
he taught you bad things?
2005-01-08 00853, 2005
ruaok
only good bad things
2005-01-08 00854, 2005
cikkolata
swearing to write line noise is something I /would/ do.
2005-01-08 00808, 2005
ruaok
I aspire not to, since its hard to read.
2005-01-08 00810, 2005
cikkolata can write cikkolata in brainfuck :D
2005-01-08 00817, 2005
ruaok
fun to construct, painful to analyze
2005-01-08 00823, 2005
cikkolata
yeah
2005-01-08 00843, 2005
ruaok
I should dig out this one line I wrote the other day.
2005-01-08 00848, 2005
ruaok
made sense while I was writing it.
2005-01-08 00849, 2005
cikkolata
I just like showing it to other people
2005-01-08 00805, 2005
cikkolata
because they always stare for a bit while their brain melts out of their ears
2005-01-08 00805, 2005
ruaok
then I looked at it again and wondered if vi garbled my clean code.
2005-01-08 00814, 2005
ruaok
lol

2005-01-08 00842, 2005

AR is the feature that keeps on giving, thats for sure.
2005-01-08 00847, 2005
cikkolata stares
2005-01-08 00849, 2005
ruaok
But man, this will change MB forever.
2005-01-08 00811, 2005
ruaok
its easier to look at fullscreen on a 21" monitor. :-)
2005-01-08 00827, 2005
cikkolata
I noticed (only a 19" here though)
2005-01-08 00842, 2005
ruaok hugs his Sony 500PS
2005-01-08 00855, 2005
cikkolata
I don't want to think about what web browsing would be like with a 21" monitor
2005-01-08 00810, 2005
ruaok
forget the web browsing.
2005-01-08 00814, 2005
ruaok
21" porn is great!
2005-01-08 00816, 2005
ruaok
:-)
2005-01-08 00820, 2005
cikkolata
'cause I run most stuff fullscreen on separate desktopthings
2005-01-08 00823, 2005
cikkolata
rofl
2005-01-08 00834, 2005
ruaok
Oh, yeah. I have 6 full virtual desktops.
2005-01-08 00853, 2005
ruaok
well, on one you can make you some desktop space.
2005-01-08 00828, 2005
ruaok
I think djce is going to kill me when he sees this function.
2005-01-08 00842, 2005
cikkolata
is it that bad?
2005-01-08 00856, 2005
ruaok
my death? I guess so.
2005-01-08 00818, 2005
cikkolata
I meant the function
2005-01-08 00826, 2005
cikkolata
your death would be sad :(
2005-01-08 00838, 2005
ruaok
ah. :-)
2005-01-08 00857, 2005
ruaok
I'll figure out how to write it first and then I will see if it can be refactored.
2005-01-08 00822, 2005
DJKC
unless it was something like you died during an accident involving a clown, a midget, a small monkey in a cute suit, and an african swallow
2005-01-08 00828, 2005
DJKC
then your death would be highly amusing
2005-01-08 00843, 2005
cikkolata
I don't think so!
2005-01-08 00805, 2005
ruaok
That would be a good way to go, though.
2005-01-08 00813, 2005
DJKC
it might still be tragic, but it'd be comic gold
2005-01-08 00822, 2005
DJKC
especially if there was a tube weasel involved in someway
2005-01-08 00840, 2005
cikkolata
crazy.
2005-01-08 00804, 2005
cikkolata
what is a tube weasel anyway? a loo roll shaped weasel?
2005-01-08 00825, 2005
ruaok
is that related to tube steak? :-)
2005-01-08 00800, 2005
DJKC
err
2005-01-08 00801, 2005
DJKC
a ferret
2005-01-08 00805, 2005
cikkolata
oh
2005-01-08 00807, 2005
DJKC
a friend calls hers that
2005-01-08 00807, 2005
ruaok
ah.
2005-01-08 00815, 2005
ruaok
good term.
2005-01-08 00816, 2005
DJKC
because they liked to explore every random small tube
2005-01-08 00818, 2005
ruaok
my friend has one.
2005-01-08 00820, 2005
ruaok
I'll have to share.
2005-01-08 00829, 2005
cikkolata
I've never met a real ferret
2005-01-08 00836, 2005
DJKC
they're fun
2005-01-08 00837, 2005
cikkolata
nor any fake ones, for that matter.
2005-01-08 00842, 2005
DJKC
but with a rather distinctive strong odor
2005-01-08 00851, 2005
ruaok
at my friends house you have to hang up your shoes it you like them.
2005-01-08 00856, 2005
ruaok
otherwise they will be chewed on.
2005-01-08 00815, 2005
DJKC
it could be worse
2005-01-08 00818, 2005
cikkolata
I've had hamsters, rabbits, cats... but that's it.
2005-01-08 00827, 2005
cikkolata
I'm no good with hamsters
2005-01-08 00829, 2005
cikkolata
they all die on me
2005-01-08 00836, 2005
DJKC
you could be peacefully visiting an aunt during the holidays and nodding off on a couch
2005-01-08 00854, 2005
DJKC
then someone a bit drunk decides it's funny to encourage one of them to go up your pants' leg
2005-01-08 00824, 2005
cikkolata giggles
2005-01-08 00849, 2005
ruaok
wow. google sets failed me.
2005-01-08 00852, 2005
ruaok
first time.
2005-01-08 00858, 2005
cikkolata
reminds me of the time one of my hamsters got free and climbed into my duvet, I dreamt I was being gently punched
next someone will want to list the names alphabetically and then I *will* have to rewrite the damned function.
2005-01-08 00824, 2005
ruaok groks english
2005-01-08 00831, 2005
ruaok
silly language afterall
2005-01-08 00843, 2005
DJKC
hmmm, have is but still not was a member?
2005-01-08 00859, 2005
ruaok
wha?
2005-01-08 00806, 2005
DJKC
nm, didn't read it fully
2005-01-08 00849, 2005
cikkolata thinks back to the time people from ars technica were working on an article together, there were four guys that I can remember, a german, a swede, an american and a brit, they were arguing over "a, b and c" and "a, b, and c".
2005-01-08 00856, 2005
ruaok
this function isn't nearly done and already needs a re-write.
2005-01-08 00814, 2005
ruaok
I can't stand the latter.
2005-01-08 00842, 2005
cikkolata
me neither
2005-01-08 00819, 2005
cikkolata
it seems that americans like it more.
2005-01-08 00829, 2005
DJKC
"Maki Goto is a member of Morning Musume from 1999-08-04 until 2002-09-23" the tense there just looks odd
2005-01-08 00838, 2005
DJKC
is what I meant by is/was
2005-01-08 00847, 2005
ruaok
that is how I was taught here in school, but I always argued with my teachers.
2005-01-08 00802, 2005
DJKC
a nice little check to see if end date < current date a switch to was might be nice...
2005-01-08 00810, 2005
cikkolata
how did you argue it?
2005-01-08 00830, 2005
cikkolata
ime, teachers insist they're always right even when blatantly wrong
2005-01-08 00835, 2005
ruaok
I forget. Something like: "Americans are stuuuuupid!"
