it was only manually and only created the entry if the feat. artist was in the db and easily matched to the name. Did it even do it on album titles? I only saw them created from song titles

no, only explanation was track times differ to much
2005-09-07 25000, 2005
fuchs
hmm, strange example - the albums seem to be different indeed otherwise you wouldn't have discids that differ that much
2005-09-07 25031, 2005
fuchs
faugn: are you sure it's really the same album?
2005-09-07 25043, 2005
ojnkpjg
i've seen a few cases where totally bogus data came from old freedb discid adds
2005-09-07 25050, 2005
fuchs
faugn: could be that those are two different live recordings
2005-09-07 25004, 2005
ojnkpjg
so you might want to check the mod history
2005-09-07 25018, 2005
faugn
ok
2005-09-07 25055, 2005
faugn
so DiscID is valid, but track times could be bogus?
2005-09-07 25005, 2005
faugn
anyway to correct this?
2005-09-07 25019, 2005
faugn
if that's the problem...
2005-09-07 25046, 2005
ojnkpjg
the track times would come from the first import either from freedb or from a discid add
2005-09-07 25013, 2005
ojnkpjg
if it came from freedb, i might be suspicious
2005-09-07 25014, 2005
fuchs
the discid is invalid as well if the track times are, because the discid is calculated from the track lengths
2005-09-07 25039, 2005
faugn
mmm, yeah

What if we have a double Album with only one artist on one cd and only one on the other? Is it proper to give one to an Artist and the other to the second or isn't it better to treat them as a VA even with all tracks belonging to one Artist? http://musicbrainz.org/showmod.html?modid=3349412

what's the point of a various artists album with an identical artist for each track
2005-09-07 25052, 2005

if it's just to indicate that there's another disc with work by another composer, i'd just add an annotation
