i tend to get MPCs where i can anyway, rather than MP3s

i just think it's quite dumb for them to be useing apev2

and if there's not MPCs but there are APEs, i'll get those and convert them to MPCs :)

when it's possible to do a decent id3v2 implementation and conform to the standard

(the id3v2 implementation in fb2k kinda sucks, doesn't make use of padding, so rewrites whole file)

fb2k is a music player, musepack|MPC is a lossy music compression format that tends to be better than mp3

i got the character set converter done for the mb_client library! sent ruaok the patch and files... it should be able to convert the UTF-8 data to 53+ character set encodings, that way they show up better on the os... needs a lot of testing though

mb is not unicode atm?

it stores the data on the server in UTF-8... when they download the info it should be converted to the character set of their language

and, afaik, only legal charsets in id3v2 are iso-8859-1, utf-8, and utf-16..

other codepages violate the spec

if you use that language.. if you use english and download info for a non-western album (such as chinese album) you won't see it right... you have to use the same language the album uses

right now non-western users are forced to use the english ISO-8599-1 encoding... and they can't see their albums right

is it possible to get tags in, say, japanese, on a system using english?

and have them display correctly, that is

if you have your os configured to display the japanese character set, otherwise it might display boxes or weird symbols

i've had some files that had japanese titles, and in fb2k they displayed as random symbols in the playlist, but had the actual japanese in the titlebar and taskbar entry

i tried changing the font the system uses on things, but it just stays the same c_c

ms gothic is monospaced and has the CJK block

so that should fly for fb2k and fancy config strings :)

i was using lucida console, and had some lines and stuff, and with ms gothic they become disjointed, as with many -'s stuck together

and it unaligns tracks from the same album :(
