can anyone tell me a query i can run against the mb database that gives a list of Track ID, Album ID pairs for tracks on albums where the album is a "various artists" album?
2004-12-02 33703, 2004
rj_
i cant see how VA is indicated in the db
2004-12-02 33755, 2004
rj_
aha, magic number 1 for artist id?
2004-12-02 33729, 2004
djce
rj_: yes
2004-12-02 33740, 2004
djce
The "magic number" is defined in cgi-bin/ModDefs.pm
2004-12-02 33733, 2004
rj_
i think we have around 10 magic numbers for various incantations of "various artists"
2004-12-02 33708, 2004
rj_
i'm going see what artist-relationships i can mine from the compilation data
2004-12-02 33756, 2004
cikkolata
djce, do you think you think it'd be a good idea to add a note to the remove album page pointing out that people wanting to remove an album they've just added can delete the add album mod instead? (it does seem like there are quite a few remove album mods where people simply aren't aware that they can do that)
2004-12-02 33716, 2004
cikkolata attempts to make sense
2004-12-02 33751, 2004
djce reads....
2004-12-02 33738, 2004
djce
sounds sensible. In theory it could detect if there is a pending "add album" mod, and, if it's /your/ mod, could show a message to that effect.
2004-12-02 33735, 2004
djce
and if it's not your mod, it could provide a link to the "add" mod, so you can add a note saying why you want to delete it.
2004-12-02 33717, 2004
cikkolata
even better

who maintains the wiki server?
2004-12-02 33752, 2004

content? or the server itself?
2004-12-02 33726, 2004
dupuy
there were some rumblings in the past about migrating to MoinMoin as the wiki engine
2004-12-02 33702, 2004
dupuy
there is apparently a MoinMoin wiki already installed at musicbrainz.org; it is used for the playlist format wiki
2004-12-02 33715, 2004
DJKC
dupuy: server itself. really would be nice if someone could switch it unicode and not western
2004-12-02 33720, 2004
dupuy
I don't know if that will give you UTF-8 wiki happiness
2004-12-02 33732, 2004
DJKC
keeps messing with some entries by people like mo
2004-12-02 33709, 2004
DJKC
no easy way to switch it over then?
2004-12-02 33737, 2004
dupuy
I've never had any problem, and although having all the foreign chars in the text as Ӓ is annoying at times, it is some protection against mangling by people without UTF-8 support in their browser
2004-12-02 33712, 2004
dupuy
I dunno why mo has such problems, it could be an issue of config for his browser
2004-12-02 33727, 2004
cikkolata
mo seems to be sending stuff as shift jis
2004-12-02 33712, 2004
cikkolata
I got the same stuff when I tried it after manually switching to shift jis, but it worked fine when I chose iso-8859-1
2004-12-02 33725, 2004
dupuy
that's odd, if he's cutting/pasting it from the MB server pages
2004-12-02 33737, 2004
dupuy
less odd if he's cutting/pasting it from other web sites
2004-12-02 33732, 2004
cikkolata
I have no idea what browser he's using though.
2004-12-02 33741, 2004

dupuy: he's using winme and IE
2004-12-02 33745, 2004

2004-12-02 33754, 2004

but he's not the only person on the planet still using those
it's suppposedlt "artist similarity" based on VA album compilations
2004-12-02 33705, 2004

but the algorithm isnt exactly suited to this.. there isnt enough info really

2004-12-02 33700, 2004

i think it may make sense...
2004-12-02 33744, 2004
canidae
hmm... this is odd... i have a little program that does some brute-force calculation, however, when i compile with "-O2" it does something _completly_ different than if i don't use this flag...?
