hawke1, I commented on the Code 39 barcode issue. Don't know if you still have any interest in that, but feedback appreciated if you are.

Leftmost: Yeah, I saw that. Your suggestion sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
2015-10-30 30307, 2015
hawke1
Leftmost: I wouldn't recommend allowing the space though, because people will tend to enter the human-readable format instead of the correct barcode data.
2015-10-30 30318, 2015

(for non-code39 barcodes that is)

I guess "all-numeric barcodes will be stripped of all whitespace" covers that though.

hawke1, I just wasn't sure if any of the barcodes actually contained a space or whether that was only ever in the human-readable.

I haven't checked all of my BMG releases, and didn't have them on hand.

Yeah, I'm not sure either.

It is kinda funny to say "after years of thought and deliberation we've decided to allow the letter D" though.

2015-10-30 30332, 2015
kuno
hawke1: if it works, I have no object. it would be more accurate to have the real releases in that release group.
hawke1: Can you add links to the edits to the ticket?
2015-10-30 30344, 2015

2015-10-30 30357, 2015

chirlu`: it's easy to duplicate -- just attempt to merge any two or more releases with 'append' strategy, then submit without entering different medium numbers -- you'll see that the order of the releases switches around in the merge window.
2015-10-30 30321, 2015

(And the order of the mediums below changes accordingly)

I'll add a comment to that effect.

Probably should have been three separate bugs..one for the ARRAY display, one for the lack of an error message telling what went wrong, and one for the reordering. But oh well, fuck it.

Anybody officially know if recordings added through the quick-search popup are still considered standalone recordings even after being used on a release, and if those standalone recordings are given special treatment (presumably involving auto-deletion when unused) -- regarding the confusion on https://musicbrainz.org/edit/35685101
Apparently my RPi2 has lost connection or shut down or whatever at home.

Freso|koume
hawke1, how does that work?
2015-10-30 30343, 2015
hawke1
Freso|koume: Basically the same as a discID -- it's a database of chapter durations for DVD.
2015-10-30 30318, 2015
Freso|koume
So a list of chapter durations can be calculated into a "dvdID"?
2015-10-30 30322, 2015
JonnyJD
hawke1: but a DiscID is not the TOC
2015-10-30 30340, 2015
hawke1
JonnyJD: Oh, that's true enough.
2015-10-30 30307, 2015
JonnyJD
(although it is calculated from the TOC)
2015-10-30 30317, 2015
hawke1
JonnyJD: still, the step from there to a hash of the TOC is not too far.
2015-10-30 30348, 2015
hawke1
JonnyJD: And also, the ToC can pretty well substitute for a discID, though it is a little inconvenient for reference purposes.
2015-10-30 30352, 2015
JonnyJD
yes, but we only have an ID if we have a definiton how to "translate" any TOC into an ID

chirlu`: but does the popup from the recording tab of the release editor count as "separately"?
2015-10-30 30323, 2015
JonnyJD
technically, if you have a well-defined definition of the TOC (excluding differences in presentation) then this could be used as some kind of ID, though not one that is easy to handle
2015-10-30 30333, 2015

hey! is it not possible to add "composer" and "lyricists" on recordings as relation ship types anymore?
2015-10-30 30355, 2015
hawke1
JonnyJD: and presumably chapterdb has that in the backend API.
2015-10-30 30332, 2015
JonnyJD
anyways, if something like that is defined (couldn't find info at chapterdb) it might make sense to also implement it for MB
2015-10-30 30356, 2015
JonnyJD
although I remember somebody saying this shouldn't be libdiscid but a new library then
2015-10-30 30309, 2015
hawke1
JonnyJD: I could see it being part of libdiscID (it does identify discs after all), though a lot of the technology would be pretty different.
2015-10-30 30316, 2015
hawke1
since DVDs are a little more high-level than CDs.
2015-10-30 30334, 2015

yep
2015-10-30 30325, 2015

and then we should include BDs too then, DVD is somewhat of fading out..

none really, it's just that when you can't find "composer" you google "composer relationship type musicbrainz" and it takes you to a wiki page that insists the type exists and talks about "this work" like i know what this is :>. (i now know/remember what "works" are)
