CB-231: Get data from MusicBrianz database directly instead of the WS

I guess I tend to view music players as also being libraries, or at least that any player that hooks to an external library already has a protocol for doing so.

hi folks, I got a question about mergin recordings. I've got two recordings which are most likely identical to another pair on another CD. But I don't know for sure, as I only have one CD. Should I leave those as different recordings even though the AcoustIDs are identical?
2017-03-24 08333, 2017
Leftmost
AcoustIDs aren't necessarily a reliable indicator. My personal opinion would be that without reliable evidence in support, they should be kept separate.

Ok, that's what I was leaning towards. Thx for the confirmation.

It's easy to merge later if evidence comes up, harder to unmerge if it turns out not to be the same.

ok, the recording is so obscure that probably nobody will notice or care :-)

I mean, for the most part a close listen would probably do it.

anyway, without access to the second release on which the recordings appeared it's moot.

Here is Hawke's guide, which was a user page but was later promoted to Main:
Hans-Martin, there is no such thing as too obscure!

CallerNo6: that page indicates that recordings could be merged if the AcoustIDs are sufficiently similar. In my case, the've got the same hash (the alphanumeric value used in the database) and relatively few differences in the graphics (which is probably due to different cue-in points).

Leo_Verto: agreed, if there were, half of my CD collection would fall under it.

My concern is that AcoustIDs can also be misassigned, so I'm always reluctant to use them as evidence of mergability.

^ True, the more sources an acoustid has, the more I'd trust it.
People are suspecting this is the real reason behind the Avex Pictures export ban

Hey, does ListenBrainz have any sort of 'scrobbling' client? Or should we just continuously import our listens form Last.fm?

Guest73, as far as I understand, a compatibility API, which would allow you to select ListenBrainz as your Last.fm server is in the works

Hey other USonians, a podcast just told me that Urban Outfitters is the biggest bricks-n-mortar record seller in the US. Can that be true? I thought they sold skinny jeans or something.
