(But you some use it for separating digital releases that are split up over multiple compressed archives (.zip/.rar/.7z/… files) or even folders. Sometimes external services (at least I've noted it on Spotify) will also list digital-only releases as split over multiple media, but I don't think we've had a discussion about whether to preserve or ignore those.)

(usually it is done to mirror the CD, but nothing wrong with that, especially in cases where each disc is different)
I'd definitely preserve those as well. There was this digital-only album that was listed on the discography page to have tracks like 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-1, 2-2, so I added them as separate digital mediums on the release since the label seemed to regard it like that.

Hello, I'm curently adding a release and in the booklet there are two recordings with the same name, hower on the publisher's website one of them has longer name, so the first one is called "XXX" and the second "XXX (live)". Should I use the version from the website or the booklet?
2018-07-02 18346, 2018
Eter__
Also there are a few more that have longer name on the website than in the booklet eg. "YYY (live)" and "VVV (reunion)", but in their case there is no need to distinguish two identical names. If I use name from the website (from the first question) should I copy all of them or only where it is needed to not have identical names in one release?
Eter__: I would use what's in a booklet for the Track name (ie., what's shown on the Release), but maybe edit the Recording names to be what's given on the website.

I'd say a scan is still better, but you can always opt to upload both. :)

Hi
2018-07-02 18341, 2018
YonYonsen
I have picard set to copy my processed music to a new folder.
2018-07-02 18358, 2018
YonYonsen
Sometimes in the right-side panel, it shows an album as UNCHANGED
2018-07-02 18308, 2018
YonYonsen
and the 'save' button is grayed out
2018-07-02 18336, 2018
YonYonsen
as far as i can tell, unchanged means that album is tagged perfectly already?
2018-07-02 18311, 2018
rdswift
Hmm, I've never seen that before.
2018-07-02 18312, 2018
YonYonsen
if so, how do i send that to where my processed files are?
2018-07-02 18344, 2018

Have you matched the files from the left side to the album on the right?

it has a little CD icon that gray, with no star and on hover it says "album unchanged"

2018-07-02 18327, 2018

Okay. I rarely do that, which is likely why I haven't seen that problem. When you do the lookup, it finds the album okay and downloads the info?
2018-07-02 18328, 2018
YonYonsen
I believe it attempted to find all the albums
2018-07-02 18353, 2018
YonYonsen
its all a bit confusing, i should have done MUCh smaller batch
2018-07-02 18334, 2018
rdswift
I normally either lookup the cd in the drive (when I'm ripping) or lookup the album on MusicBrainz and then copy the release id to the lookup bar on Picard to get the album info. Then I drag the files from the left side to the right.
2018-07-02 18302, 2018
rdswift
I also only do one at a time.
2018-07-02 18310, 2018

i see

2018-07-02 18311, 2018

Picard can (sort of) do that, but it is really best when doing one album at a time.

For tagging a whole bunch of stuff at the same time, you might want to take a look at beets.
2018-07-02 18341, 2018
YonYonsen
i'll look at it, thanks
2018-07-02 18358, 2018

It's been ages since I've used beets, but I think it uses the info from MusicBrainz.
2018-07-02 18300, 2018

yeah, it looks like exactly what i wanted!
2018-07-02 18328, 2018

I suggest making a copy of a few files (50 or so) and running the copied files through first to make sure it's working as expected before commiting the while library to it.

"whole" library

i have another sorta related picard question..... on the right side panel it has, for example... " Hooper Bay(11/12; 11*; 1 image) "
2018-07-02 18305, 2018
YonYonsen
hooper bay being the album title
2018-07-02 18326, 2018
YonYonsen
the numbers are saying what exactly?
2018-07-02 18344, 2018
YonYonsen
i have 11 of 12 tracks from the album?
2018-07-02 18350, 2018
YonYonsen
what is 11*?
2018-07-02 18323, 2018
rdswift
The first 11/12 means it has matched 11 files of a total 12 tracks. The 11* means there are 11 files that need to be written.
2018-07-02 18353, 2018

Haven't been saved yet.
