thanks for the heads up reosarevok, I'll have a look at the userscript.
      • What's this magical ROpdebee userscript then?

Am I right about this? We don't typically create different releases based on matrix/runout codes unless there is some other significant difference. https://musicbrainz.org/edit/78527882

chaban: Thanks again for the suggestions, they've all been implemented now
      • haven't extensively tested the sanity checks though, so if you find any that don't seem to work properly (or think of new ones) just lemme know
      • meLon
Hey, are all hidden tracks surrounded by square brackets? It's not listed in the release, but it has tags/title information and curious if the hidden track title should read [Track Title] or similar here
      • srotta joined the channel
      • "Hidden Track" goes to "Unknown" track documentation: https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Style/Unknown_and_...
      • I don't think so, I think that this is for unknown titles, but clicking "Hidden Tracks" and then landing here has me questioning it
      • Cheezmo
No, hidden tracks are not enclosed in brackets if they have real names. The brackets are for tracks that only have an "unofficial" names.
      • meLon
        ty for the clarification
      • Cheezmo
In your case, there are tags so that seems like an official name.

Rexodys[m]: no offence, but your IRC client sucks
      • tykling has quit
      • whoever thought that was a reasonable way to communicate a multi-line message was insane, frankly
      • I suggest you either post in the Picard forum: https://community.metabrainz.org/c/picard/13
      • Rexodys[m]
        I'm on matrix
      • atj
or maybe outsidecontext will help you
      • evelyn
yeah IRC is not to blame for this :)
      • atj
outsidecontext: "How can I delete a value from a multi variable? I want to make a script to standardize my genres"
      • Rexodys[m]
It uses Discord markdown syntax like most
      • Well, markdown syntax haha its not discord-only 😂
      • atj
Rexodys[m]: yes, your client is terrible for IRC and basically makes us who use normal clients have to click random links to see what you wrote
      • it's ridiculous
      • Rexodys[m]
So question without syntax: How can I delete a value from a multi variable? I want to make a script to standardize my genres - its a jungle out there. I want to dind/replace strings of genre like "steam punk" => "steampunk"
      • atj
I think someone was asking something similar a few days ago?
      • Rexodys[m]
I didnt know you had to clink on a click but its not my clients fault, its the bridge
      • hahaha click on a link XDD
      • atj might have been me haha my memory sucks
      • atj
I just checked and it was you asking about this
      • Rexodys[m]
might have been, there are setmulti, getmulti but how the hell are you suppose to delete
      • atj
Rexodys[m]: this is what we see BTW https://chatlogs.metabrainz.org/brainzbot/music...

      • evelyn
atj: the reason it puts multi-line messages behind a link is due to anti-message-flooding - but it's pretty annoying it does it even for two or three lines, that's really unfriendly IMO
      • but I can see why they did it for e.g. 10-line messages
      • atj
evelyn: well, it's replacing one problem with another problem
      • just don't make 10 line messages?
      • evelyn
no, it looks like one, long message on the other side
      • so you can paste long code snippets and stuff
      • so the people on the other side don't realise
      • atj
but it's a message with multiple lines right?
      • IRC is line based, I'm guessing Matrix is message based
      • evelyn
it's a message that is longer than a single IRC message can be ,not just mulit line message
      • multi*
      • there is a character limit in IRC, there isn't on matrix
      • Yaniel
the irc character limit is ridiculous tbh
      • atj
what is it? I can't recall ever bumping into it
      • Yaniel
        that's the thing
      • there is no way to know
      • evelyn
        it's about 450 characters
      • Yaniel
        its 512 in the spec
      • evelyn
it is dependent on the ircd
      • atj
If you're typing a 450 character message then you have other problems :)
      • Yaniel
but IRCds don't care about that (as usual, imagine complying with specifications on the internet)
      • and that 512 *includes* protocol stuff
      • Cheezmo joined the channel
      • ROpdebee
sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum.
      • Yaniel
so even if you know what the limit for a given server is you'd have to figure out how much of that is taken up by extra data that your client sends along with messages
      • evelyn
it includes your nickname for example :)
      • Yaniel
and *then* there is IIRC nothing specified about how too long messages should be handled
      • atj
sorry, I didn't mean to start a flame war, but shoehorning IRC into a completely different messaging system is just completely wrong IMO
      • Yaniel
so the ircd may split your message up or just truncate it and never tell you
      • Cheezmo has quit
      • evelyn

did my lorem ipsum go through?
      • atj
Yaniel: I know IRC is not a great protocol, it's super old, but it works pretty damn well 99% of the time.
      • evelyn
other IRC networks don't want anything to do with it - see for example https://hackint.org/archive#20181028_Matrix_Bri...
      • Yaniel
atj: fair enough, but a lot of people tend to be very vocal when they can't use their IRC client with $NEW_CHAT_SERVICE
      • evelyn
        ROpdebee the final bit appeared
      • from sit occ
      • Yaniel
atj: it works damn well if you are using it with the same mindset as when it was designed yes
      • but sadly that is completely irrelevant to 99% of people these days
      • ROpdebee: it got clipped in two after "Excepteur" and the 2nd part ends at "anim id est laborum."
      • ROpdebee
if it ain't broken, don't fix it
      • atj
Yaniel: I think 99% might be a tad high, but yes I'm old and I like simple text chat with no animated gifs for technical discussions
      • ROpdebee
yeah i guess it got split into two messages somewhere down the line
      • Yaniel
posting code snippets inline & with syntax highlighting is damn useful in technical discussions though
      • (although they should be foldable, which I haven't seen any application do yet)
      • ROpdebee
doesn't slack kind of do that? maybe only after a couple lines
      • atj
      • Yaniel
and inline images are also relevant to technical discussions more often than not
