but i see queries running along my local postgre server

      • ijabz2
local musicbrainz server gices you lookups (i.e db querys) but not search (lucene index querying)
      • 2015-03-16 07546, 2015

      • ijabz2
i.e from https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Development/XML_Web_… you get Lookup and Browse but not Search

eezec: Official MetaBrainz projects are under {github.com,bitbucket.org}/metabrainz/

How you do it depends on your end aims
      • 2015-03-16 07522, 2015

      • eezec
my aim is : i would like to use a local "clone" of musicbrainz, for this app : http://beets.radbox.org/

      • 2015-03-16 07511, 2015

      • ijabz2
eezec i think Freso means builld https://bitbucket.org/metabrainz/search-server and then configured your mb server to use it.
      • 2015-03-16 07520, 2015

      • eezec
        thanks ijabz2 and Freso :)
      • 2015-03-16 07559, 2015

      • Freso
eezec: "upstream" meaning "the one from MusicBrainz/MetaBrainz"

      • Freso
reosarevok: Ugh. Should https://beta.musicbrainz.org/work/5778e65f-8177-4… be the '28 or '47 version? Right now it's both. :|

_5moufl: no, the settings are stored in the registry on windows and in a file on other operating systems. unless this is a process you have to do often, it's probably faster to save all the format strings to a text file, manually copy them into the new picard instance and clicking through all the other settings than trying to find a way to automate the conversion

Thing is, it's effectively a compilation of differents arias from Verdi. But in the same time, it was recorded in one time, by the same orchestra/conductor/singers

What could be the rule of thumbs in this cases ? Thanks !
      • 2015-03-16 07529, 2015

      • Mineo
in this case it's: read the guideline :) https://beta.musicbrainz.org/doc/Release_Group/Ty… covers exactly that case: "The MusicBrainz project does not generally consider the following to be compilations: [...] a classical release containing new recordings of a classical artists work."
      • 2015-03-16 07502, 2015

      • CallerNo6
MacManiac, my rule of thumb is that in classical, it's really only a compilation if it's like "100 great overtures!"

Thanks :) Mineo, note the work (singular) in this guideline! In this case (new recordings of several classical works), it was in my understanding not so clear.

      • MacManiac
But clearly i'll remove the compilation tag for this release, thank you both
      • 2015-03-16 07541, 2015

      • Mineo
but if you insist on the singular work, you'd only ever have classical non-compilation releases with exactly one track on them :)

The idea of when a classical release is a comp could use some rethinking anyway. Lots of recordings are reshuffled/repackaged over the years. I don't consider those to be compilations.
