        hibiscuskazenek1 that's what's on the cd
      • the opendisc thingy doesn't even work. soem php error on the server :')
      • hibiscuskazenek1
        What's it supposed to do/contain?
      • _5moufl
        "exclusive content" :x
      • hibiscuskazenek1
So it doesn't say what that content is on the packaging?
      • (or anywhere else for that matter?)
      • _5moufl
"bonus, new stuff, exclusif content" roughly translated
      • hibiscuskazenek1
Are there any indicators elsewhere what that content is (e.g. Discogs, reviews, blog posts)?
      • Tykling
        Freso: smukt
      • tom[]
darwin: no, i'm not sure. i need a replicating database that will be part of a bigger system. i don't need the web server. but i could find no instructions on setting up only the replicating pgsql database. so i'm trying this. i might be better off with the chef stuff. we'll see
      • bexta
in DBPrefs.pm do I need to edit the host and port for the databases, or does it default to localhost if it is commeted out?
      • tom[]
bexta: i changed host in order to eliminate that question. but i'd bet it defaults to "localhost"
      • bexta
thanks, ill pop localhost in there
      • tom[]
"# Configuring databases here is required; there are no defaults." is rather ominous
      • Freso
        How so?
      • (Also, while this talk is certainly welcome here, there are more people more able in this area over in #musicbrainz-devel )
      • tom[]
seems like it could be saying, for example, "there is no default port number, you must specify it"
      • but i doubt that was intended
      • Freso: i do not develop musicbrainz so i didn't think it appropriate to ask user questions there
      • bexta
yeah I didnt want to get in the way of them actually creating :)
      • Freso
"# There is no default server host, you must specify it.\n# There is not default port, you must specify it.\n# There is no default database name, you must specify it.\n# There is no default ..."
      • tom[]: Setting up servers isn't a regular user question either. :)
      • tom[]
so i should ask about "Can't locate package MooseX::Role::Parameterized::Meta::Role::Parameterizable" here? ;)
      • bexta
did you downgrade the version of MooseX?
      • tom[]
        not that i am aware
      • bexta
        from the install.md
      • cpanm SARTAK/MooseX-Role-Parameterized-1.02.tar.gz
      • tom[]
        oh, yes. look at that!
      • thanks bexta
      • bexta
        no probs
      • Freso
tom[]: Like I said, more people who are better suited to give help with these things are at #musicbrainz-devel
      • You are free to ask them either or both places, but you're more likely to get a better and better qualified response in -devel.

Is Pro Tools engineering software? https://musicbrainz.org/edit/33963069
      • reosarevok
As far as I know is mostly for writing electronic music? But dunno :)
      • (like, for making the tracks, however we indicate that - somewhat confusing since it's producing and writing together usually)
      • Filizmundo
hi there, I have a trouble setting up a search server. When building index I got the error in WorkIndex.java -> "no suitable method found for add(String) (argument mismatch... method List.Add(Atribute) is not applicabe.
      • There someone already tried set up a search server successfully?
      • pankkake
I see many mentions of "engineering" with pro tools, and I thought it was mostly used for things unrelated to actually writing the music
      • Filizmundo: you should probably ask #musicbrainz-devel
      • given how many people come here with install troubles (even using the VM) I wonder how MB is still "open source"
      • Filizmundo
pankkake: thanks I'll go there. MB is "open source" just for those that work in it.
      • darwin
nice, a guy from a breakcore label I like is editing his label's releases on musicbrainz...
      • hibiscuskazeneko
darwin: That seems to happen a lot with small labels
      • Leftmost
Nowhere does it say "open source" has to mean "easy to work with".
      • pankkake
Leftmost: sure, but I'm sure you understood what I meant
      • darwin: compared to how many do it on discogs it's pretty small… I suppose it's because it can be used as a store
      • Leftmost
Honestly, I'm not quite sure I do.
      • hibiscuskazeneko
darwin: Are you posting that because whoever this editor is is making the data worse?
      • pankkake
many companies do that. publish code that is unworkable without hidden knowledge
      • Filizmundo
"open source" = some day you will pay for this
      • pankkake
and CAA is effectively closed source
      • darwin
hibiscuskazeneko: no? he actually found a mistake I made
      • Leftmost
pankkake, I suspect that the issue here is not one of ill will but of toolchain issues. Granted, you haven't mentioned ill will, but that's what I infer.
      • hibiscuskazeneko
        darwin: OK, good
      • Munger
Hmmm. Look at the third and fourth artist credits here - http://musicbrainz.org/artist/0743b15a-3c32-48c...
      • hibiscuskazeneko has left the channel
      • Someone has typed a unicode hyphen in one of the releases. beets & Picard are splitting the Greatest Hits album into another directory. Grrrr!
      • hibiscuskazeneko joined the channel
      • pankkake
oh, because they use the alias? I suppose you could tell it to use the name of the artist entity instead, not the credit variation
      • CatQuest
        Munger: I know rite? suoperannoying!
      • however there is a way to do.. yea pankakke explain
      • pankkake
        I don't know *how* though :)
      • CatQuest
I think it's.. "use the translated artist name" or something?
      • or has newer picards different
      • Munger
I think with beets you have to add a replacement, but that only affects file names, not tags
      • CatQuest
you know I have the ancient picard. let me try the recentest
      • Munger
The right way is to fix the releases and get rid of the junk variations I guess
      • CatQuest
yea except that now the "jukn variaitons" are supposed ot be there
      • "as on cover"
      • but there is a way to ignore the "as on cover" and use normalization instead
      • Munger
Errr. How does a unicode hyphen appear on the cover as opposed to an sac hyphen?
      • *ascii
      • CatQuest
my opinion is that it's stupid, bit those that think of this uh say it's typographically correct
      • reosarevok
Yeah. It's *supposed* to use the unicode hyphen, ideally. So, easiest solution would be to edit the other AC to use the unicode one
      • Munger
I think somebody added a release from Picard and it picked it up from the iTunes tags
      • CatQuest
a case can be made for quotes I guess. and i'm starting to agree with those
      • pankkake
for that artist I don't think there should be variations of the hyphen. there should be only one
      • CatQuest
but hypes and ' 's are.. meg
      • meh*
      • Munger
I don't know how to track down the releases that use a given alias
      • reosarevok
There's no need, you can edit the specific alias completely
      • CatQuest
letmesee, jesus2099 has a very useful script/script bundle for this
      • reosarevok
(but you can use the "Filter" thing also to find something that uses the alias, it's a tiny toggle that I always forget exists but it's there)
      • CatQuest
that's what his script utilises for certain things i think
      • Munger
Which ones are need changing though. They look identical in the browser :)
      • pankkake
however the jesus2099 userscript used the standard search and it might not actually filter on the unicode character
      • CatQuest
it uses both filter and search
      • "Use standardised names" in the metadata tags
      • options
      • that'swhere it's at, i belive
      • and right next to it, "convert unicode punctiuation to ASCII"
      • Munger
CatQuest, I'm tagging with beets now though :(
      • CatQuest
        oh
      • :/
      • Munger
        Which aliase(s) should I fix?
      • reosarevok
Well, you should probably change the hyphen to the unicode one on any aliases that use the ASCII one
      • I probably wouldn't change caps but dunno
      • Munger
Right, but I can't tell which is which in the browsefr :)
      • Oops! There is no f'in browser!
      • CatQuest
open all them and copy in the unicode one and then hit enter and then only the ones using ascii will go through while the other(s) will be like "buh what?"
      • and yo ucna close those
      • Munger
        Which is the unicode one??
      • CatQuest
as an aside, it's really annoying that you cannot have more thna one instance of picard open
      • Munger
        You can
      • CatQuest
        no
      • Munger
        Duplicate the app
      • CatQuest
duh, I have one ancient version and one completely new the 1 3 2 version, cannot have both open
      • Munger
At least, that works on a Mac
      • CatQuest
        nope
      • not here
      • Munger
        IWFM (tm)
      • CatQuest
        uuhhh what?
      • Munger
It works for me. I do it quite a lot
      • CatQuest
hmm. well it does not for me, i literally am trying as I am typing this, any openig of one picard and then opening of a different picard just makes the first one come to focus
      • jesus2099 joined the channel
      • hello j
      • jesus2099
Munger: the script that helps you find which release/recording/etc. uses a given artist credit (AC) is old, is there : http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/131649
      • CatQuest
canae you update it and put it on githubforkstuff?
      • jesus2099
i rarely need it and it apparently didn’t need any update since then
      • CatQuest uses it all the time
      • i never quite know if i have to use the filter or the search, i usually click both… and you ?
      • CatQuest
but it's better if it's in one palce imho
      • yeeeargh joined the channel
      • yea, the exactly the same ;)
      • Munger
that script doesn't seem to differentiate
      • I get the same results no matter which variation I click
      • jesus2099
        Munger: on what artist ?
      • results used to be different…
      • Munger
      • Look at the ones that vary only by the kind of hyphen used
      • jesus2099
well the script can’t really add features to MBS existing search and filters… it seems that it doesn’t work at all with these… the script is quite clumsy anyway
      • and as someone said, it doesn’t work for tracks… that could be added maybe…
      • it works for tracks actually it seems but it displays the recording AC in the result page i guess
      • Munger
Aha! If I search for hyphens on that page it skips the unicode ones
      • CatQuest
        hah!
