I've been teetering on this for a while, but I'm getting to think we need a general "portrayed" relationship type. Tokusatsu shows, like anime, often have character song tie-ins, and we currently cannot link the actors to the characters they played (other than the imprecise "performs as" or "voice of" relationships). Any thoughts?

I’m looking for some auto-editor or voter help to clean up a 124 track Blu-ray release. Specifically this edit http://musicbrainz.org/edit/29953201 I just spent 1/2 hour getting it all in and sorted after the edtir jumbled the track order and now realized one track is out of place. I don’t want to try to do the edit over again, it would be much to get it applied and then move the track.
did the site just get really slow for anyone else?
clearly it was waiting for me to comment

I’ve added a scan of the spine so you can see I have the same catalog number. Were you able to look at the back cover track list?

Still looking for some vote help for edit http://musicbrainz.org/edit/29953201 there is some discussion now. Would like to get it in so I can do a follow on to fix up the track order (munged by the track parser) after it is applied.

Okay, that must have been hours ago.

Thanks again everyone for help with Drums & Wires CD+blu-ray, I have one more edit. the last edit mysteriously dropped 2 tracks and I found a couple of typos. http://musicbrainz.org/edit/29960624 After that one I should be able to finish up adding track times and put this one to bed.

reosarevok: regarding classical track style: is it still recommended to create multiple releases/tracklists, with one language per tracklist?
reosarevok
Did anyone ever do that?
warp
if a classical release has multiple languages for each track on the cover, I think we used to not allow that in MB,... so you'd have to pick one for the entry in MB. if you wanted whatever the other language was, you'd have to add that separately.
(though I guess that isn't/wasn't specific to classical really)
reosarevok
Yes, it's possible, I just wonder if it was ever recommended (or actually done, in general)
Mineo has only ever entered the german tracklists because that's his native language :P
KRSCuan
warp: Don't see how that is much different from what we do with pseudo-releases.
I.e. why not allow that.
Then again, we should really implement alternate track lists and get rid of pseudos.
reosarevok
Yeah :(
warp
KRSCuan: yes, it's exactly the same as pseudo-releases.
hawke
warp: Except that they are considered official.
but yeah.
I know that is, or was the official method, not that anyone bothered for the most part.
KRSCuan
Some Japanese releases (especially of foreign albums) also have both Japanese and Latin official tracklists.
kepstin-laptop
alternate tracklists are insufficient, because we also want to localize the release title and release artist credit
KRSCuan
That would make it much harder to implement and potentially lead to UI issues though.
warp nods at kepstin-laptop
hawke
kepstin-laptop: Alternate tracklists would be a decent start though. :-/
kepstin-laptop
hmm, but that makes figuring out how to do localized titles/release artist credits more complicated at a later point - are they linked to the tracklists somehow? completely separate?
to be honest, the pseudo-releases give us the necessary db structure allready, and some editor and ui enhancements could make it work together, if we want to go that way.
reosarevok
Yeah, I'd be fine with storing them as full (pseudo-)releases
As long as we don't show them around and offer them in the ws and stuff
But dunno
kepstin-laptop had plans to add pseudo-release stuff to mbjs at some point; he has some ideas for presentation that he wanted to try out
kepstin-laptop
the localized releases should be available to the webservice somehow, of course...
hawke
kepstin-laptop: Problem is with software support though — we need to somehow make sure that correct catno information can be pulled in from the pseudo-releases.
kepstin-laptop
yeah :/
hawke
Picard is a long way from that, and I’m sure you can’t even get the info from the webservice.
reosarevok
Well
kepstin-laptop
in mbjs, I plan to - on the page for the main release - have e.g. a tabbed section that switches between the tracklists/titles from the linked translated/transliterated pseudo-releases
and then not show pseudo-releases on their own
reosarevok
I guess they would be more connected to the releases than they are now
kepstin-laptop
for the translated/transliterated ones, there should be ARs connecting them...
reosarevok
(as in, I guess you'd query for the actual release, not the pseudo, and then it'd give you a list of possible tracklists)
kepstin-laptop
searching gets complicated, tho; you'd want a search for the localized title to return the original release, for example
