Is there an easy way to access edit history from an API? I’m considering a retagger that will update the metadata in music files iff MBz has newer information, but I don’t see a way to check the most recent update for a track (and associated release and artist).

Hmm, no… the HTTP headers don’t have any cache directives or time metadata, and the XML is also void of any history metadata.
But it does say so on the relationship page... When was it deprecated.

btw, what status should http://www.discogs.com/release/742055 be? “This album was intended to be released as HEDK003 in 1999, but was later released in 2000 together with other tracks with the name HEDK013 Simplicity 2000” It seems like it was never actually released, yet it seems to very much exist

Because forcing people to re-enter the birth date of the artist (which is what that'll be in 99% of the cases) for the 1% where the date has some small significance is absurd (hence why nobody was doing it anyway)
