        so it's ok? No bug?
      • Mineo
        yes, it's not a bug
      • Kazaam
I didn't know that MB hide promotion releases, weird
      • To display the RG it needs to have an official release, isn't it?
      • xplat
bitmap: now that MB has stopped being read-only, is there anyway i can recover my big edit from yesterday?

      • derwin
        probably not..

reoafk: linkedbrainz - bonus points for using Manowar on the example page!
      • wtf? didn't mean to ping reo. that was some stupid auto-complete thing.

xplat: I think there's a way, but it requires opening the console and typing in javascript, if you're okay with that :)
      • the fact that it didn't recover from the error is a bug that needs fixing, though
      • anyway, if you paste MB.releaseEditor.submissionInProgress(false) && MB.releaseEditor.submitEdits(); into the JS console and hit enter it might go through
      • SultS
is that’s a similar bug related to submit to CAA failing?
      • bitmap
        I doubt it
      • SultS
well, I’m not sure it’s a bug… just there is no way to resubmit either
      • bitmap
oh, possibly, I've never really looked at that code

      • SultS
fail there is not that bad, since you will know it right after the 1st image fails and it’s usually not too big of a hassle to start all over again

Kazaam: if you want to see full disco, add ?all=1 (or click the “Show all release groups instead” link at bottom) of artist page
      • seems to be the time to resurrect this good old Always show all releases on Musicbrainz v1.0 (https://userscripts.org/9456) for some folks ! :)
      • where each “short=0” → “all=1”
      • Kazaam
        jesus2099: Merci Mr. J :)

Anyone who knows German care to double-check my work on http://beta.musicbrainz.org/release/b3a7a844-40... ?
      • (Work-recording relations, that is. Given that the recordings are in English and the work names are in German…I’m not 100% confident I got them right)

picard didn't give me the option to submit a CD stub for a 4 disc set I just finished labelling by hand
      • how can i get this nice dataset into MB?
      • hawke1
chrisb: use the 'submit cluster as release' plugin
      • …crap, I think I should have added a new English version anyway, since it’s translated. :-/
      • chrisb
hawke1: ok, i'll see if i have that plugin, thanks

where do place aliases come from and can I edit them?
      • hawke1
phonebox: They’re on the place’s “aliases” tab, and yes you can edit them
      • phonebox
oh sorry, I meant areas :)
      • hawke1
Oh. Areas are initially imported from Wikidata, which has something like aliases — but no, you can’t edit them once they’ve been imported.
      • chrisb
hawke1: addrelease.py(c) is in /usr/lib/picard/picard/plugins/, how do i "activate" it?
      • hawke1
        chrisb: in options, plugins.

i errored with "name must be scalar, not a hash or array" on about 7 tracks, why?
      • hawke1
        is it a multiple-disc set?
      • chrisb
        hawke1: yes
      • hawke1: 4 discs, labeled with Disc Number field
      • hawke1
You have to manually add the discnumber…hmm.
      • check the discnumber field on those tracks. That’s what it was when I ran into the same problem.
      • I believe it’s basically saying “you have several tracks assigned to the same disc/track number”
      • But maybe you’re running into a different but similar problem.
      • chrisb
        hawke1: ok, great, i'll dig in...do i number from 0,1,2,3 or 1,2,3,4?
      • hawke1
        1,2,3,4
      • You should be able to edit it directly in Picard.
      • Make sure there is only one of each disc number/track number combination

Hi, Does anyone have a mirror for me? Thanks
      • kepstin-laptop
Nindustries: you'll have to provide a little more context about what you're looking for...
      • Nindustries
kepstin-laptop, Excuse me. I'm looking for a musicbrainz mirror server for my headphones application, because the regular headphones and tranquilbase always time-out to my requests
      • regular musicbrainz *
      • kepstin-laptop
the thing we normally recommend for headphones users is that you set up your own mirror, for example by using our server virtual machine image set up with a replicated database.
      • Nindustries
That's my plan eventually, but until I have obtained all hardware I need something to fil in the gap. I only have a few artists tough, so no heavy load
      • kepstin-laptop
if we had the resources to do public mirrors for headphones users, we'd rather just use them to make our real api handle more load :)
      • Nindustries
        ah :9

is there a way to fix over art order? when adding it offered me a means of choosing a position, but after half the images had server busy, it seems to have stopped caring about that, so the booklet scans are no longer contiguous
      • cover art order*
      • kepstin-laptop
Zastai: on the release cover art editing page, you can reorder the images
      • (the changes might not show up immediately; the edit has to pass first)
      • Zastai
how silly of me not to notice that button
      • doubt that it would be a forced-vote edit type; will try it out
      • kepstin-laptop
all the way at the bottom "reorder cover art" yeah :)
      • simukis_1
        reorders are applied automatically
      • kepstin-laptop
        oh, they are now?
      • I know that was an issue back when I first started using it :)

      • reosarevok

apparently I started writing a wicked awesome musicbrainz player a couple years ago.

Apparently, since we are yet to see it :p
      • reosarevok hides
      • Which is a shame :(
      • kepstin-laptop
my basic idea was to build what amounted to a local partial musicbrainz mirror that linked tracks to files on your hard drive, then sticking a browsing/player interface on top of that.
      • I have yet to firmly decide what programming language to use ;)
      • Zastai
        ooh ooh use brainfuck!
      • kepstin-laptop
        no.
      • Zastai
        ok ok, haskell then
      • kepstin-laptop
i'm tempted, but I don't have ocharles levels of haskellity.
      • Zastai
you drive a hard bargain sir. ok, last offer: COBOL
      • kepstin-laptop is down to pretty much python or C.
      • python needs to die a firey death as ar as I'm concerned
      • as far*
      • kepstin-laptop
and writing applications that support multiple database types in C really sucks.
      • (I should just write it in C and hardcode the use of sqlite or something in order to actually make forwards progress)
      • simukis_1
Zastai: aren’t you confusing Python with PHP perchance?
      • then goes Javascript I guess and only then all the other languages.
      • Zastai
no, but i'll happy throw it on the bonfire I built for python
      • happily*
      • kepstin-laptop
I was tempted at javascript too, but if I did do javascript, I'd probably code it on the gnome javascript runtime and it would be horribly unportable ;)
      • (the new "gnome-music" player was originally javascript, but they switched to python a while back)

      • reosarevok wonders what instrument an Akai MPD is
      • JESUS2099
akai is a synth piano etc. brand
      • kepstin-laptop
the mpd is just a pad input device, isn't it
      • JESUS2099
      • kepstin-laptop
probably 'keyboard' is closest, in what we have
      • JESUS2099
        drums
      • elec. drums
      • kepstin-laptop
well, you can assign arbitrary samples or combinations to the pads
      • JESUS2099
it should be other if there is nothing closer than keyboards or drums :)…… or percussions should be !
      • but you play it like a percussion anyway
      • kepstin-laptop
could just call it a 'synthesizer', since what the pads are controlling is a synth of some sort in the back end...
      • JESUS2099
        rather samples imo

      • or 53something
      • JESUS2099
OHP calls MPD series are PAD CONTROLLER(s)
      • reosarevok: ↗
      • it’s what’s printed on the machine itself
      • reosarevok
Yeah, I just have no idea how to credit that :)
      • reosarevok just used "electronic instruments", heh
      • I did think about drum machine
      • But it's not really that either
      • kepstin-laptop
a pad input device can be used to configure/program a drum machine...
