JesseW: Uh. You should still enter tracks separately.
2014-12-22 35612, 2014
Freso
Like vinyls.
2014-12-22 35657, 2014
JesseW
Freso: that was one of my questions -- these are audiobooks, and don't have any track info listed (at least, not on the medium, which is all I have)...
2014-12-22 35631, 2014
JesseW
Should I name the tracks with some special name, or?
That's nothing to do with it being a cassette though.
2014-12-22 35645, 2014
flamingspinach
Japanese style guide says we should make the tracklist conform to the cover art as much as possible, but I decided to throw in a little CSG since the tracklist seems to show the first few tracks on the release as being parts of a suite, as seen here http://ia801408.us.archive.org/2/items/mbid-a83b1…
2014-12-22 35655, 2014
JesseW
Freso: true. I should have mentioned the audiobook part, too. ;-)
ok, fixed for the Pete Seeger one. BTW, I assume that *should* go in the same release group as the CD version? Or not?
2014-12-22 35631, 2014
JesseW
For the two audiobooks -- given that I don't *have* actual track titles for them, I'm not sure how much point there is in changing the numbering...
2014-12-22 35655, 2014
Freso
Well, principally, tracks 1 and 2 would be on the same side, while A and B would be two different sides.
2014-12-22 35605, 2014
Freso
I wouldn't do A1 and B1. Just A and B.
2014-12-22 35648, 2014
JesseW
but given that there *are* only two tracks (one for each side), I'm not sure why it matters...
2014-12-22 35632, 2014
Freso
To denote that they are two different sides...
2014-12-22 35606, 2014
JesseW
but the (current) names of the tracks are "Side 1" and "Side 2", so I think that should already be clear... :-)
2014-12-22 35609, 2014
Freso
"1", "2" are typically just sequential track numbers, while "A" and "B" are typically medium side markers.
2014-12-22 35638, 2014
Lotheric
Someone could assume it's a cassette tape with 2 tracks on side A if it's not numbered with sides
2014-12-22 35607, 2014
JesseW
hopefully not if the names are "Side 1" and "Side 2", though.
2014-12-22 35623, 2014
Freso
Meh. Editors are silly. And so are artists.
2014-12-22 35638, 2014
Freso
I wouldn't trust track names.
2014-12-22 35654, 2014
Lotheric
anyway thereMs no official guideline on this
2014-12-22 35606, 2014
Freso
Besides, they shouldn't be called "Side 1" and "Side 2" per the audiobook guidelines.
2014-12-22 35608, 2014
Lotheric
not yet
2014-12-22 35635, 2014
JesseW
ah, I wondered about whether the names should be changed, yes.
2014-12-22 35646, 2014
Freso
Not that I think it matters too much.
2014-12-22 35659, 2014
JesseW
The guideline seems to say: "Any release which doesn't split tracks based on chapter boundaries should have tracks named: Part N"
2014-12-22 35640, 2014
JesseW
but that doesn't really answer the question for mediums, like cassettes, that don't necessarily *have* track breaks...
2014-12-22 35621, 2014
JesseW
that's what I'd love a definitive answer for -- how should I enter a track list for a medium that doesn't particularly define one (AFAICT)...
2014-12-22 35633, 2014
Freso
"Part 1", "Part 2".
2014-12-22 35603, 2014
Freso
Cassette 2 will then have "Part 3" and "Part 4", etc.
2014-12-22 35624, 2014
JesseW
heh, ok.
2014-12-22 35606, 2014
JesseW
and for the numbers, just A and B, not A1 and B1?
2014-12-22 35621, 2014
Freso
It's probably not an issue with this release, but consider a 6-cassette audiobook release where each of the cassette have the tracks "Side 1" and "Side 2"...
2014-12-22 35636, 2014
Freso
I don't think there's a definite answer to that one.
2014-12-22 35646, 2014
JesseW
Freso: that makes sense, yeah
2014-12-22 35648, 2014
Freso
hawke's proposal doesn't seem to touch one-track sides.
2014-12-22 35600, 2014
JesseW
eh, I'll use A and B then.
2014-12-22 35607, 2014
JesseW
and done
2014-12-22 35638, 2014
JesseW
on both
2014-12-22 35646, 2014
JesseW
thanks for the suggestions!
2014-12-22 35636, 2014
Freso
No problem.

Freso
Sorry for edit note spam. :)

I just thought the chat log would be good background info for future/other editors as well.
I added the link to the change I made to the Pete Seeger one, too.
2014-12-22 35644, 2014
Freso
(If you don't feel like doing that, that's fine too - you've added the info to the annotation, so someone else can pick it up at some other point.)
2014-12-22 35628, 2014
JesseW
Freso: I thought I had added the labels...
2014-12-22 35651, 2014
Freso
JesseW: Not as release label.
2014-12-22 35658, 2014
Freso
As a Release-Label relationship.
2014-12-22 35620, 2014
Freso
"copyright". Or "phonographic copyright" seems to be the one in play here.
2014-12-22 35633, 2014
JesseW
ah, I see. Sure.
2014-12-22 35630, 2014
Freso
It's not a very used releationship and probably one of the less important ones, but if you have the data readily available anyway, might as well "formalise" it instead of just have it as "random" text in the annotation.
2014-12-22 35636, 2014
Freso
*relationship
2014-12-22 35647, 2014
JesseW
makes sense. I certainly hadn't heard of it.
2014-12-22 35609, 2014
Freso
I've only begun using it recently.

me too

I mean, it's not that old of a relationship either, but it's been there for probably a year or so by now.
by subtitle you mean the overarching work name "Im Abenteurgarten"?
2014-12-22 35632, 2014
d4rkie
yes
2014-12-22 35636, 2014
flamingspinach
that's how they were before I made the yellow edits
2014-12-22 35644, 2014
flamingspinach
I guess that makes sense
2014-12-22 35612, 2014
flamingspinach
but the work name is "in the tracklist" and in classical releases it's quite common to see tracklists written like that (it's described on the CSG docs page too)... hmm
2014-12-22 35645, 2014
d4rkie
not sure if anyone from current SE staff can confirm the track naming, though. wish I had someone to ask details...

SE has many departments, and my company works only with the publishing arm atm
