... we should replace the icon with something appropriate based on the release media type ;)
      • Leftmost
        I just like gtk.
      • kepstin-work
(digital media releases just get no icon at all)
      • Leftmost
kepstin-work, not a picture of bits?
      • ianmcorvidae ponders what we'd even do if we had some sort of north-american MB summit
      • hawke_1
Leftmost: well, the picture *is* bits…right? ;-)
      • Leftmost
But it's not a picture OF bits!
      • hawke_1
        ianmcorvidae: eat chocolate!
      • Leftmost
ianmcorvidae, drink local craft beers and argue about style guidelines?
      • ianmcorvidae
        haha
      • kepstin-work
but brain, isn't that what we do every day?
      • Leftmost
Yes, but right now we're doing it in different rooms.
      • ianmcorvidae
        kepstin-work: not *together* though :P
      • kepstin-work watched entirely too much http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinky_and_the_Brain in the past :/
      • Leftmost
        Too... much?
      • ianmcorvidae
        heh
      • Leftmost
The same thing we do every night, Pinky... try to assemble a vast, yet consistent and accurate database of audio recording metadata.
      • ianmcorvidae is now imagining a bunch of us getting together, getting sugar-high and/or slightly tipsy, then storming a local record store to enter things into MB :P
      • Charge in through the door waving laptops.
      • ianmcorvidae
        (presumably getting kicked out :P)
      • Leftmost
Now #musicbrainz-de is hopping, but #musicbrainz-ga is so quiet.
      • ianmcorvidae
bah, I didn't realize you guys actually did that :P
      • Leftmost
Natürlich. :-P (Not one of my favorite words in German or anything...)
      • Quick, everyone go learn Irish so #musicbrainz-ga can be lively.
      • ianmcorvidae
        lol
      • GRMule_
Thanks for the help earlier, guys (and gal[s?]). I imagine I will find cause to return in the coming days -- take care :)

Linux laptop users, which brand do you use? Helping someone shop, and I have my own opinions, but wanted to get feedback from others.
      • ianmcorvidae
        I have a zareason, myself
      • but thinkpad is the obvious choice
      • hawke_1
Dell here, but not particularly by choice.
      • System76 are nice
      • simukis_
Leftmost: using a general Asus here. One should check for components' compatibility instead of looking at brand of assembler.
      • Leftmost
simukis_, right, though some brands (Lenovo, for example) tend to have better default component loadouts, coupled with good general build quality.
      • simukis_
        heh…
      • my standard for a features I'd like to see in my next laptop has grown so much lately I can't find anything what would fit my taste anymore 😃
      • Leftmost
I've been using a ThinkPad for a few years now. My standard for what I want in my next laptop is one that works as well as this one and gives me as little trouble as this one.
      • simukis_
well, thinkpads are a safe choice, but I can't stand their keyboards… unless they have changed lately.
      • Leftmost
I love my T420 keyboard. It took me a bit to get used to it, but I haven't really had any problems with it.

for all you smart wikipedia people out there.... any idea why or where I can find why they chose to rediect this page??? .. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Louis...
      • hawke_1
      • snartal
yea, clicked on all the stuff on that page... no text mentions why.
      • hawke_1
It just shows that it was created as a redirect.
      • The editor didn’t give any explanation
      • But it didn’t exist prior to that, so…
      • (It’s not like a redirect is anything special, anyone can create one)
      • snartal
ok, thanks, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something, as not familiar with wikipedia.
      • hawke_1
        Unrelated: worst. font. ever: http://www.random-notes.com/#!people/c17d9
      • Leftmost
        Eesh.
      • hawke_1
It’s semi-OK for the title, but for the body text…that’s just harsh
      • HankCorto
but it's intentional, inline css on each "span: font-family:fredericka the great;" :D
      • hawke_1
        definitely intentional but still terrible
      • HankCorto
        "She's fun, she's casual, she's preppy, she's classic, she's Great!" that's the font description

        So...... karaoke....
      • Ideas on how to implement "in the style of"?
      • hawke_1
        What does that mean?
      • Isn’t “in the style of” just a cover performance?
      • snartal
Well, in karaoke, they basically cover the song... and do it in the style of a particular artist.
      • So, question is then, who is the artist?
      • hawke_1
        Doesn’t seem necessary to me.
      • snartal
        What doesn't?
      • hawke_1
Having a relationship “in the style of” between a recording and an artist.
      • I mean, you have dozens of cover recordings which are “in the style of” $FAMOUS_ARTIST — why would karaoke be any different?
      • snartal
Cause you have no clue who covered it. Credits on the back say "in the style of"
      • hawke_1
        [unknown]
      • If you don’t know who performed it, that’s why we have [unknown]
      • snartal
Yea, that is not going to work for the karaoke folks.
      • Alot of searching is by ITSO artist name.
      • hawke_1
The way to do it I think would be to have an AR between the artist and the recording.
      • But it feels very very wrong to me, to link an artist which has nothing to do with the recording.
      • Note that my opinion is not official, you are welcome to create an RFC …
      • snartal
I understand... but I want to bounce it off you smart folks here before/if I do.
      • In Karaoke, though, its a very important link.
      • hawke_1
We do already have the “tribute to” release-artist AR, which is similar.
      • (not sure if that can go to recordings too, but…there is some precedent
      • snartal
Cool, just found the page with the 185 relationship types on it.
      • hawke_1
        lol
      • Isn’t that fun?
      • snartal
No, I seriously have been thinking obtaining counseling for a massochistic dysfunction.
      • Actually, its is kinda fun, like figuring out a puzzle.
      • I actually been pondering linking the karaoke to works.
      • huh... users can have their own relationship types?
      • ianmcorvidae
        no?
      • nikki
if you're looking at the wiki, things under user pages are generally proposals
      • snartal
Ah, k. Was looking at "nikki/Amazon"
      • hmmm.. Based on is a work to work relationship
      • hmmm, "Miscellaneous role"...

        back
      • Of course artwork is a source for text
      • yindesu
of course it is - but official text > artwork
      • Leftmost
How do you determine what's official text?
      • yindesu
the liner credits in the booklet, for one
      • what it's called in the Press Release / what the Label gave to the online stores
