original song is hell on wheels from fu manchu with the composers listed on the discogs link
i would add marten erbsen as lyrics guy and the guys from fu manchu as composers
and then look if i find any good way to relate those two works
Derivative work relationship from the docs looks like a good one i guess
reosarevok
Yeah, I mean, it's either "version of" or "based on"
(both of wich are derivative work thingies)
CallerNo6
I think "based on" is more of an adaption, isn't it?
CallerNo6 can't remember
CallerNo6 sez "nevermind"
yeeeargh
is the basis for read quite good: "This links two works, where the second work is based on music or text from the first, but isn't directly a revision or an arrangement of it."
i have no clue what i revision or an arrangement would be
though
"The new work must be a new composition, not just an arrangement or the same music with different or translated lyrics. " hm...looks like this would apply here. so it would be the wrong one

yeeeargh: arrangement = rewriting the existing work to be played by new instruments
revision is a later version of the work by the same composer
yeeeargh
arangement shouldn't be used in "pop" music anyways according to the doc
LordSputnik
so, Beethoven might have written a really crap symphony, then revised it to make Symphony #5, then you'd use revision
yeeeargh: not generally, no, because recordings have something to deal with that (forgotten what it is)
yeeeargh
"Note: This should rarely be used for pop music" ...
yeeeargh: i'd use basis, unless it's a parody, then i'd use "earliest version" with the parody attribute
yeeeargh
yeah, basis sounds good if there wouldn't be that passage: "The new work must be a new composition, not just an arrangement or the same music with different or translated lyrics. " but the lyrics are completely different and not just translated
CallerNo6 agrees, "based on" isn't ideal

CallerNo6
(that line should be in the bullet point list)
yeeeargh
so i guess "other version" is the better one... and i leave translated unselected, because it's not the same text in a different language

Question: How do we add areas?
yeeeargh
i believe there is a bot who looks at wikidata entries with specific attributes like "instance of: city" "is in the administrative unit" and so on
there is a thread about that somewhere in the forums where it is explained a bit
reosarevok is very unconvinced of the usefulness and trustworthiness of release countries
snartal
reosarevok: To get a new area, do we have to ask you or nikki, or do we have to add it to wikidata?
reosarevok
Wikidata. What's the area?
snartal
Belen, New Mexico, US
So, I need to go get a wikidata account I guess.
yeeeargh
http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q815390 it's already there... you would have to add "is in the administrative unit" and it should be recognised by the bot
no...not needed
reosarevok
You can edit without one, it'll check by IP or whatever
If you have a wikipedia account, it's the same, too, IIRC
snartal
yea, not sure I want my ip addy stuck to edits
yeeeargh
should work without... i have added some citys in the past
"is in the administrative unit: Q487283" this should be the attribute you want to add
snartal
yea, just trying to find out where to do that at
yeeeargh
below the other attributes theres an "add button"
then you enter "is in the administrative unit" into the property field
reosarevok
Or P131 :)
(faster)
yeeeargh
and "Q487283" int the field next to it, and then save.... if you want you can add a source too
*in
snartal
Well, I just typed "New Mexico" and it added it.
What is source for?
yeeeargh
where you got your information from... i don't think that it's necessary for the edit to go through, but nice to know... and i guess putting in the county would be better then the state
reosarevok
heh
For us it doesn't matter since we don't have counties :)
(might be better for wikidata proper though)
yeeeargh
yeah, still, better information in wikidata... when you do the work you might as well do it right
snartal
ok... now "Valencia County, New Mexico"
Good tip
So, now the bot will pick it up?
reosarevok
Should do, if it's also set as city or town
(god, the site is SO HORRIBLY SLOW :( )
It's not automatic though - or well, it is, but not instant
yeeeargh
i guess so, to my knowlege those are the only attributes the bot looks for.... don't know how often the bot runs. so no clue when it will show up here
reosarevok
It checks every 3 h IIRC?
nikki would know :)
snartal
hmmm, some of the entries have county only, some have state and county
reosarevok
Shouldn't matter
ListMyCDs
still waiting bot to support municipalities ;)
reosarevok
I think as long as it has one of the two it should catch it
JoeLlama joined the channel
ListMyCDs: it does! Kinda. It added the Italian ones
As long as it says just "City, in United States", it's useful disambiguation
snartal
Ah, depends on what the entry title.
That explains why county does the same thing.
yeeeargh
alrighty... i'm out for today... have a nice [insert name for local daytime]

has Musicbrainz been having server problems the last several days?
I'd say 90% of my page loads / note submissions fail after 30 seconds due to bad gateways
snartal
Fri-Sun it was really slow, with people mentioning timeouts
yindesu
still happening right now.
culinko
reosarevok: how does the wikidata thingy work? i see some SK cities there, but not sure what to do to so the bot could pick them...
reosarevok
yindesu: one server's out for updating, temporary replacement turned out to be crap
(so, yes)
culinko: needs P31 (instance of) set to city or town, and P131 (administrative division) set to either some area we have in MB, or some area which itself has P131 to some area we have in MB
