Same as the ones for adding composers to works and works to recordings
      • jesus2099
this one scares me ↗  :)
      • used it once or twice and i remember closing the tab violently because it gave me impression of launching tons of edits, or something… iirc it was only an impression :D
      • reosarevok
        heh
      • Well, it can do that, depends on how many things you relate :p
      • But only does what you ask it to, anyway
      • jesus2099
it seemed to launch edits as soon as you check some lines, but not sure, don’t remember clearly… i work per release so i haven’t test it many times
      • i used the other bitmap work userjs instead (the release based one) :)
      • culinko
reosarevok: how do you edit classical then? editing recordings 1 by 1?
      • reosarevok
Doing it right the first time! :p
      • Nah, I mean, it's rare that the recordings have the right artists already anyway :p
      • So I generally fix the stuff while I change recording artists
      • It's only annoying for multi-composer releases
      • snartal is glad he is not cultured enough to listen to classical music, cause the style guidelines sound super-confusing
      • Mineo
just add classical releases that are so large nobody checks all of it :D
      • culinko
well that's the thing, i don't want to add anything, was just thinking about i might finally start editing the slovak classical releases (just removing feat. from titles, make sure all relationships are present, but it's impossible to edit recordings separately, because classical has to have different artists for tracks and recordings)
      • reosarevok
It's not as bad as it sounds, but it's bad
      • culinko
and editing recordings 1 by 1 is not an option
      • reosarevok
        Heh, why not! :p
      • I mean, I'd do the basic things then
      • (so, everything except moving performers to recording artist)
      • sampsyo joined the channel
      • culinko
btw. there should be composer+all performers on track, but only composer on recording?
      • nikki
just the composer on the tracks
      • and performers on the recording
      • culinko
        without composer?
      • reosarevok
        yeah
      • But that last bit you can leave because it's annoying :p
      • You can just leave composers on recordings too
      • As long as you add the relationships
      • culinko
but if the performers are already on the recording and composer on track, while both have "feat." stuff in title, it's impossible to fix both at the same time, because i can't check "apply track changes on recordings"
      • damn
      • reosarevok
... someone fixed the recording artists and not the title?
      • Ok, that's dumb :p
      • reosarevok hopes it wasn't himself
      • culinko
that was just an example, don't know if something like that is somewhere out there :P
      • reosarevok
        I want to think there's not :p
      • culinko
also, what about RG/release title, composer; performers?
      • Lotheric joined the channel
      • reosarevok
I hope you mean artist :p
      • (in that case, yes)
      • culinko
        oh yeah, artist
      • albino_
I have a technical question. What's a best way to make photo/scan a medium (CD exacly)? Is it safe for a CD to simply scan and is it in a good quality then?
      • snartal
I've scanned CDs with no issues, with good results.
      • albino_
        OK then, I'll try it.
      • snartal
Question: http://musicbrainz.org/edit/23457466 .... this to me doesn't look like its gonna change the artist on the track... did I do it wrong?
      • reosarevok
albino_: yeah, scanning works fine - try to position it on the scanner so that the letters can be read as straight as possible :)
      • albino_
reosarevok, Yeah, right. Thanks for advise.
      • kepstin-laptop
I wouldn't bother positioning it on the scanner in any particular way; just rotate it in an image editor afterwards ;)
      • kepstin-laptop notes that scanners with CCFL lights tend to make nicer-looking medium images than scanners with LED lights.
      • reosarevok
kepstin-laptop: rotating it works if you're going to cut the surrounding white and all that
      • If not it just looks dumb
      • kepstin-laptop is always carefuly to make sure the background is solid white when he rotates, yes :)
      • kepstin-laptop
I usually end up using a levels tool to get the colours right anyways, so I just push the background to pure white while i'm at it. then filling in the holes after rotation is trivial.
      • reosarevok
snartal: that's going to change it on the recording only, yes - to change the track you need to edit the release
      • snartal
So, is this a two edit change? or is there an easy one edit way to do it?
      • kepstin-laptop
http://coverartarchive.org/release/0f4b6901-aeb... is what the medium scans look like on my scanner with the LED lights :/
      • reosarevok
snartal: it is a two edit change, but you can enter the two edits at the same time by clicking the "also change the recording" checkbox in the Recordings tab
      • nikki
        kepstin-laptop: but it looks pretty!
      • reosarevok
nikki: looks like something you'd like to have around your phone :p
      • nikki
        oh yes! :D

hmm. the weather report had a 100% chance of rain for today.
      • they weren't wrong.
      • but yes, that scan ^^ was rotated to make it straight :)
      • snartal
ok, why only the title being highlighted, and not the artist... yet I think I got the edit right this time.... http://musicbrainz.org/release/71636e00-e33d-4d...
      • JoeLlama joined the channel
      • reosarevok
snartal: the title is because there is a recording edit
      • The tracklist edit is marked by CD1 being highlighted
      • Yes, it's confusing
      • snartal
ok... as long as I got the edit right - lol
      • reosarevok
kepstin-laptop: heh, that's a daring prediction, I'd have gone with 99% and said "hey, it *is* a chance" if it didn't rain :p
      • snartal
I'm gonna have to go back and check my recent stuff to make sure I did those correctly too.
      • reosarevok
        looks fine
      • (that edit)
      • snartal
Thanks for keeping me in line, reosarevok :)
      • kepstin-laptop still needs to figure out a good way to lay out the ars on http://mbjs.kepstin.ca/?recording=8d8f94eb-d7be-46f7-9b01-4ec81a449e09 :)
      • kepstin-laptop
I put them in some CSS columns for now, but dunno which browsers that will work in.
      • nikki sees three columns
      • (that's not the complete list of ARs for that recording yet; it only has vocal and instrumental so far)
      • having to do this: https://github.com/kepstin/mbjs/blob/master/js/... is kind of annoying :)
      • (I can't even use the patterns from musicbrainz directly, because I don't know which attributes are vocal types or instruments or whatever...
      • so I just made a * attribute that gathered up all the things that weren't mentioned anywhere else
      • ... that recording has two ars, "lead vocals" and "lead vocals, background vocals" credited to the same person...
      • krono
        Hi
      • ens0 joined the channel
      • is there a way to fast-apply edits in a grace period after creating a release?
      • nikki
        no
      • krono
that would be helpful to add relations quickly after entering a release,
      • nikki
well, adding relationships show up immediately anyway
      • krono
because that is impossible _during_ the creation process
      • do they? ah, now I see
      • reosarevok
        Yeah
      • It would be useful anyway to fix errors, but we don't have it :/
      • snartal
Question: Is there an easy way to make a copy of an existing release in MB, to use as a template to add a different version?
      • reosarevok
        More or less
      • nikki
sort of, depending on what you want :P
      • reosarevok goes shower, lets nikki help
      • pffft
      • you can click "add release" from a release group page and it will fill in the artist and release group
      • you'll need to fill in the rest of that tab manually
      • then on the next tab, you can copy an existing release's tracklist
      • nikki usually wants the first tab to be filled in, so finds it rather suboptimal, but that's all we really have
      • snartal
hmmm, no lookup of title like you can with an artist when entering a release?
      • kuno
snartal: on the tracklist tab you can search for any existing disc to add it to the release
      • murk_ joined the channel
      • snartal
ok, finally figured out how to get rid of the credits box
      • Was hitting the red x to close it
      • kuno: don't want to add a disc.... was wondering if it searches recordings like it does artists.
      • kepstin-work
snartal: on the recording tab it does
      • but not for entering track names
      • (there is no way to fill in track names from recording names)
      • snartal
Wow, I clicked on the recordings tab to look at that, went back to the tracklist.... all my changes are gone
      • kepstin-work
        ... that shouldn't happen :/
      • nikki
did you go back in the browser or by clicking on the tracklist tab?
      • snartal
I'm pretty sure I clicked the previous button, but not 100%
      • kepstin-work
never click back in the browser in the release editor unless you know what you're doing ;) (it is *sometimes* useful if you get a server error when submitting, but even that's iffy)
      • snartal
Yea, I must of clicked the back button on the browser
      • nikki
you could try going forwards and then clicking on the tracklist tab

if snartal is still here, you can use release cloner from http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/85790
      • snartal
Still here... still working on it.... painfull.... will never do it again.
      • jesus2099
it will ask if you want the same RG or a new RG with same type… everything will be filled-out (including all mediums and AC etc) you only need to modify what has to be modified
      • « nikki usually wants the first tab to be filled in » ← it does that too
      • Kazaam joined the channel
      • reosarevok
snartal: it really shouldn't be that hard :/ It's supposed to be easy to just re-use the existing disc and tracklist so that you only need to change whatever's different
      • Is that not working?
      • jesus2099
i thought it was not so easy or so complete… i don’t remember exactly why but i had to code that little release copier
      • snartal
        Well, done, I think
      • Kazaam
Hi ! Is it useful to add "remastered" in the disambiguation field for a remeastered release of an album?
      • snartal
Yea, I don't put that in the easy category either.... I know I'm a rookie, so that definately increased the time.
      • reosarevok
I would say no, but not everyone agrees
      • jesus2099: well, it's not *complete* in that it doesn't clone all the info
      • Kazaam
      • reosarevok
But the tracklist itself should be straightforward, all the problems should be on the first tab
      • jesus2099
        Kazaam: yes do it  :)
      • Kazaam
        ok thanks
      • jesus2099
reosarevok: ah i remmeber now why i made the copier… not for the first tab although it’s what it adds most obviously… it’s because it was impossible to search too recent releases or somthing like that… don’t rememebr 100%
      • reosarevok
jesus2099: huh? ETI style only makes sense if remastered is on the cover prominently, and I'd argue not even then
      • Oh, that's true :)
      • Add Disc uses indexed search
      • snartal
Well, when you have to shift all the tracks around.. delete the songs that were removed, add the songs, then check them against the recordings...
      • reosarevok
Well, yeah, ok, if it's only very loosely based on the other one, then yes :)
      • jesus2099
snartal: so it’s not that similar  ;)
      • reosarevok
Kazaam: in any case, you can relate the two releases as "remaster" of each other with a relationship (which makes sense whether we put it in the disambiguation or not)
      • jesus2099
reosarevok: by ETI i mean that what’s in the comment is between brackets so ETI fits here nicely, doesn’t it ?
