I don't know about the percentage, but we do have an abnormally high interest in japanese music

japan is a musical country, what can I say

... though we mostly focus on, like, merchandise-mill anime music

japan is also nearly as OCD as we are about cataloguing their data

especially considering how many native speakers we have... the ratio is completely different from most other countries

MB and japan... we *understand* each other :P

re the OCD, I have noticed a tendency for Japanese people to have 1 main hobby/interest that they pour all their effort into, instead of being dabblers in a lot of things

but we (and by "we" I probably mean "I") should probably work on getting translations on the main server so they can actually be beneficial to a broad audience :P

is there a quick way to see where the keywords are used in context on mb?

like, 'Subdivision' could refer to several things

not really, though that's presumably an area type

there's often details with contexts, and you can look at the filenames to get a hint (things starting with root/ will generally roughly follow the URL scheme)

could also refer to label branches, though, which would probably use a different word

look up some of the things marked as that, on wikipedia

then see the corresponding article on japanese wiki

can also just ask in here or something

For those of you who speak Japanese as a learned language, how do you practice kanji knowledge?

used to read manga, but haven't in a while

my girlfriend generally just does it by way of reading, etc.

personally I don't care about handwriting and IMHO you shouldn't either (unless calligraphy is a hobby of yours)

of course it helps that she's a big fan of one of the idol groups and there's a wide variety of blogs and things to read on the topic. but :P

Some sort of framework for improving vocabulary and kanji reading would be incredibly helpful, though.

When I took Japanese at university here, one of my professors loved Heisig. It made me angry.

make yourself some anki decks and get cracking :P

honestly I got too lazy to really stick with anki

spend more time reading and less on organizing your anki deck, and you just might come out better off
