11am is right on the money -- what's wrong with that? :-)
morning!
melange
and here I was about to go to bed, and everyone turns up
djce
melange thinks your calendar is out, I think :-)
jsimmons
djce: just checked mrtg - nice - and OUCH!
djce
yup
ruaok
our two hard working servers busy?
djce
nice big spike of "too many sigservers" a couple of hours ago
melange
is the TRM application farmable?
djce
that's probably a question for sward_3, but so far I'd have to assume no
melange
what sort of system is Bender?
specifically, what type of hard disk setup is it using
djce
jsimmons: about the I/O load on Bender. Do you know of any number I can read from /proc, for example, which represents the I/O load? for MRTG purposes?
melange
djce: whatever vmstat uses to get it's bi/bo ..
djce reads man pages...
jsimmons
djce: load is a measure of the number of processes lined up waiting for the I/O bus
djce: so it's a pretty good measure of I/O load
melange
ruaok: how are you going with the donations for the RAM?
jsimmons: load can also be processes waiting for CPU time - if the CPU is working hard on something that can drive load up and it doesn't mean that IO is flooded
jsimmons
melange: true, but the CPU load on bender isn't that great
melange: so I'm assuming it's I/O rather than CPU
melange: but I've been wrong before ;-(
melange
jsimmons: IO could be driven up by RAM consumption forcing swapping
(you are probably completely right, I'm just playing Devil's Advocate and trying to rule out everything)
jsimmons
well, right now bender's using almost 2G for cache
and about 88M of swap
total RAM is 3G
melange
so that probably rules out memory being an issue, although it would be better to check those figures when the load spikes
Chutt
memory is the issue.
jsimmons
definitely. and more memory can't hurt
Chutt
the trm server is being limited to 1GB of ram.
sward_3
and currently is running with a 2.2 gb db
Chutt
so it has to swap internally
sward_3
so, is having to swap like crazy
Chutt
causing all your i/o load :p
jsimmons
OK that makes sense
sward_3
with that hardware, you can handle 100x the load you have right now
if you just up the memory limit on the sigserver
melange
right, I'm going to bed
g'night all
jsimmons
good. memory is cheaper than a new I/O bus ;-)
melange has quit
djce, ruaok - got a few minutes to chat in mb-admin?
ruaok
in about 5 minutes??
jsimmons
good
djce
sure
ruaok
the stupid memory still hasn't shipped. :-(
I'm on the phone giving them hell right now.
croakur
ooh, I may have found an issue with the new tagger
double checking now
weird
nevermind, that was strange
blizzow
What are you getting croakur?
croakur
rock solid sir, keep it up
ruaok
:-)
croakur
some tracks' tags were missing
I just re-tagged and it was okay
actually
when I double click to play the song in XMMS, the title information disappears
blizzow
I got a "decoder crashed" message in my error tracks earlier. I had to close down the tagger and now she won't close the mbtagger.exe process unless I do it manually.
croakur
could be an XMMS issue, works fine in winamp
also is only doing it with my tool - undertow mp3s, all other tagged mp3s seem to be okay
soccos
I just got the chocolate popup!
maybe the frequency has been increased in the new tagger release ;-)
although I didn't see that on the feature list
ruaok
nope.
But I got a guy in .uk who said it was too expensive to ship chocolate from Bath, UK to to .ca.us
soccos
:)
is it possible to get the track number into id3 tags?
ruaok
The whole chocolate easter egg has been a failure so far. :-)
that is written, isn't it?
soccos
I never thought of it as an easter egg - excellent
huh?
ruaok
easter eggs in oss software is kinda pointless. :-)
soccos
not if they're chocolate
croakur
chocolate easter egg?
I want chocolate. :(
haha
we need to embed zork in the tagger one of these days
soccos
does the naming tab apply to both filenames and id3?
soccos doesn't grok id3
ruaok
no just filenames. all info gets written to id3
soccos
i'm trying to make itunes list album tracks in the right order
is that fruitless?
croakur
soccos: there should be a sort by filename option, eh?
soccos
hmm, perhaps my question is "does id3 have a track number field?"
oh, yes it does
well, the iTunes 'info' dialog does anyway
sward_3 has quit
the tagger doesn't appear to write the track number into it though?
sward_3 joined the channel
jwatk03 joined the channel
ruaok
it does, I just checked the code.
soccos
hmm
you have itunes handy?
select 'Get Info' on a tagged file
ah
i see, I just need to figure out how to make itunes sort by track number
cool, sorted
djce is away: bye
croakur: there *is* a sort by filename option
you can sort by any field in itunes
orogor joined the channel
croakur
that was going to be my suggestion, then, to sort by filename in order to get the track ordering
