jsimmons: about the I/O load on Bender. Do you know of any number I can read from /proc, for example, which represents the I/O load? for MRTG purposes?

djce: whatever vmstat uses to get it's bi/bo ..

djce: load is a measure of the number of processes lined up waiting for the I/O bus

djce: so it's a pretty good measure of I/O load

ruaok: how are you going with the donations for the RAM?

jsimmons: load can also be processes waiting for CPU time - if the CPU is working hard on something that can drive load up and it doesn't mean that IO is flooded

melange: true, but the CPU load on bender isn't that great

melange: so I'm assuming it's I/O rather than CPU

melange: but I've been wrong before ;-(

jsimmons: IO could be driven up by RAM consumption forcing swapping

(you are probably completely right, I'm just playing Devil's Advocate and trying to rule out everything)

well, right now bender's using almost 2G for cache

and about 88M of swap

total RAM is 3G

so that probably rules out memory being an issue, although it would be better to check those figures when the load spikes

the trm server is being limited to 1GB of ram.

and currently is running with a 2.2 gb db

so it has to swap internally

so, is having to swap like crazy

causing all your i/o load :p

with that hardware, you can handle 100x the load you have right now

when I double click to play the song in XMMS, the title information disappears

I got a "decoder crashed" message in my error tracks earlier. I had to close down the tagger and now she won't close the mbtagger.exe process unless I do it manually.

could be an XMMS issue, works fine in winamp

also is only doing it with my tool - undertow mp3s, all other tagged mp3s seem to be okay

no just filenames. all info gets written to id3

that was going to be my suggestion, then, to sort by filename in order to get the track ordering
