hmm I'm using the wrogn words

on the prefs page. every line of option with a box is the text is a link to the box, a form action. now liek the buttons on moderations pages

now soem thing is open taged or something o nthat prefs page because when i click anywher on the text in the prefs page *all* and I mean *all* the text gets this ' link striped order' that IE in pre winXP has fro activated links/formatctions

I want to find out how many rows this returns.

doing select count(sum(amount)) ... gives a 'aggregate function calls may not be nested' error

that's the right way to do this?

first, I think you need to remove the "amount" from your group-by clause.

second, if you just want a count, you can do: select count(*) FROM ( select first name yada yada yada ) as tmp

re first: column "donation.amount" must appear in the GROUP BY clause or be used in an aggregate function

you said you were selecting sum(amount)

you normally don't want to aggregate and group by the same column

unless you've got two different "amount" columns that's i'm getting mixed up
