        mo: you're right.
      • TRM has no connection discid
      • yllona
mo: i'm certainly confused on the issue
      • ruaok
how can I clarify? I'm not sure what you're confused on.\
      • mo
I am confused by peoples confusion.. it seems straightforward to me :/
      • ruaok sighs
      • erh, sorry?
      • yllona
where do TRMs come from? thus far i've only imported albums from FreeDB. it is TRM necessary?
      • DJKC
yllona: a TRM is an audio fingerprint generated by black magic by the relatable software from the data that clients send to the TRM server.
      • TRMs are only for tagging
      • have nothing to do with adding albums to the DB
      • ruaok
TRMs are acoustic fingerprints that relate to TRACKS.
      • yllona
        so it's not necessry?okay.
      • DJKC
if you tag a song manually you can submit the TRM so it's associated with the track
      • ruaok
Disc ids are calculated from CD-ROMs and assoicated with ALBUMS.
      • DJKC
so other people can look up the same track off just the TRM instead of having to do it manually
      • yllona
DJKC: how do i manually submit the TRM?
      • DJKC
TRMs are not used at any point when adding albums to the database no matter whether it's from a freedb import or a manual add
      • yllona: I have no experience with the mac tagger, so I can't answer that
      • mo
        hlledussen da, s dumt :/
      • DJKC
with the windows one there's just a button to submit them after you've manually matched up a song to it's entry on MB
      • yllona
ok. call me stoopid, but is there anything that describes the complete relationship? TRM.+album ID, etc
      • DJKC
trms have nothing to do with albums
      • at all
      • yllona
        documentation, i mean
      • DJKC: i definitely need some schooling here
      • so you don't need aTRM?
      • mo
what lovely broken thing is "S|ddeutsche Philharmonie" on this page http://www.freedb.org/freedb_search_fmt.php?cat... really supposed to be, you think?
      • yllona
Is there some way to add an entire album via iTunes? i'm really conscientious about my tagging...
      • DJKC
http://musicbrainz.org/wd/WindowsTaggerFAQ some of the general info is cleverly hidden in the Windows Tagger FAQ
      • yllona: no. albums have to be added via the website only -_-;
      • yllona
DJKC: i wouldn't have looked there thanks
      • DJKC
I really want some way to submit via just properly tagged files too
      • what the clients let you submit are discIDs and TRMs
      • and tag your files from the MB data
      • but to actually add albums/artists to the DB you have to do it via the website
      • mo
it's not liek I have an idea at all :/
      • yllona
mo: waht are your ideas. or am i just clueless?
      • mo
        ideas?
      • what?
      • I asked a question :p
      • DJKC
yllona: disc IDs based off the actual TOC on the disc. they're used for adding times to tracks that don't have any
      • yllona
okay... but what if the TOC isn;t recognized.. happens on some early CDs (from the early '80s)
      • mo
        you add the info manually
      • it will still have the disc id
      • and tracktimes
      • DJKC
        yllona: ?
      • not sure what you mean by TOC not recognized, if it's a valid audio CD it should have a TOC
      • mo
I think means not in freeDB
      • DJKC
discIDs and TOCs have nothing to do with freedb
      • yllona
DJKC: early CD pressing are quite bogus.. i've had to replace several
      • mo
that's not completley true.. but yes
      • inhouseuk has some that are 20 years old
      • DJKC
mo: from a MB perspective they don't. From a freedb enabled program's perspective then yes, obviously the TOC is used in the look up there too
      • yllona: ah, I dont' have any that old
      • mo
        that's what I meant :9
      • yllona
also, a lot of indie pressing are missing ID3 tagging entirely. this happens msotly on self-published stuff
      • DJKC
I suspect you just can't submit them then
      • ?
      • mo
can some oen answer my question btw.. because I have noidea wher to start
      • DJKC
what does that have to do with the TOC
      • mo: I'd suspect Deutsche Philharmonie but I'm not familiar with orchestras at all, and especially not with german ones
      • mo
hmm. ok, but its a start. thank you
      • yllona
DJKC: everything is missing.. you get "track 01" track 02 etc.
      • DJKC
        yeah
      • yllona
        if that much...
      • DJKC
        that doesn't matter
      • all it needs from a toc are the sectors
      • the "Full TOC: 1 12 192075 150 4535 21835 43625 61852 79817 101467 109097 117240 135305 154865 170560" there is the info in a discID
      • it represents it in a more human readable form before
      • yllona
DJKC: that's established at pressing?? (mfg)
      • DJKC
but essentially you have first track, last track, number of sectors, starting sector of track one end sector
