      • nikki_

        the evil overlordess
      • (overlady would not sound as evil)
      • nikki_
        >:)
      • chocomo
        lol
      • ojnkpjg
        too much like overlay
      • which isn't evil at all, really
      • inhouseuk
ruaok: yes, sorry, it was probably uncalled for. I realise the potentially several thousand non-musicians to the DB could cause problems with the monitoring and misuse of them. However, it was frustrating to suddently get a 'no it is not being done' when I was actually doing some investigation into how the scope of those non-musicians can be limited and formulating possible solutions to...
      • ...prevent misuse of them. Obviously, allowing unlimited levels of family tree is impossible and I believe with some thought, plus a little code tweeking this can be prevented, whilst still allowing them to be added where there is a direct relationship.
      • ruaok
'tis ok, inhouseuk... we're two days into a new regime, so we're having to adjust.
      • yalaforge grins
      • the problem I see is that if we don't restrict it in any way, we can basically keep track of the geneology for all of human kind, which is certainly not the aim of this project.
      • chocomo
        GeneBrainz?
      • :>
      • chocomo plays The Radio Said Rock 'n' Roll Is Dead - Rose Tattoo (Angry Metal)
      • ruaok
this is just one of many gut-wrenching decisions I will soon be facing.
      • alas. sometimes it'd be nice to drop the benevolent part of my title. >:-)
      • ruaok is a dumbass, just for the record
      • yalaforge
        hail to the king ;-)
      • ruaok
you mean, hail to the dumbass ?
      • yalaforge grins and refuses to answer
      • nikki_
have you asked your ass about its opinion on being called dumb?
      • yalaforge
how can you ask such questions!
      • chocomo falls down laughing
      • inhouseuk
ruaok: agreed! But it should be fairly easy to lock down, by restricting what can be done with a non-musician artist and ensuring when one is added it has a direct relationship to a musician. non-musician to non-musician relationships obviously need to be prevented (except in certain conditions where they both have a relationship with the same musician)
      • ruaok
      • yalaforge
        great, thanks rob!
      • ruaok
        yalaforge: np
      • inhouseuk: yes, I can see the logic in those rules. I still need to ponder this more.
      • yalaforge is glad he's not in charge here :-)
      • nikki_ too, it would leave her too little time to draw on maps :P
      • too little time... that about sums it up.

      • inhouseuk
        that's cheap
      • ruaok
very much so. and now I want to wrangle them down further and get a non-profit discount.
      • but this very nicely serves as a platform for us to sholve out boat-loads of lucene indexes

      • yalaforge
maybe we can distribute indexes via bittorrent, too
      • inhouseuk rarely sees spam
      • ruaok
        yalaforge: yes.
      • ojnkpjg
you're missing out on quality timepieces
      • ruaok
I'm thinking of using osprey.ibiblio.org (IIRC)
      • ojnkpjg: and a larger penis
      • chocomo

      • teleGUISE
        Hey all...

      • Shepard
what happened with the nice people in this chan? where are they gone?
      • ruaok
        teleGUISE: hi!
      • Shepard
        hi tele
      • teleGUISE
wow... ru's in a good mood!! not that that is rare or anything :O
      • ruaok
teleGUISE: why am I known to be crabby? (dont answer that)
      • teleGUISE
Shepard: what do you mean by disc id on the ReleaseAnnotationStyle page?
      • inhouseuk
teleGUISE: probably because he is busy spending other peoples money
      • teleGUISE
        ru: ho..ho.humm.hmmm..la..tee.da.da
      • ruaok sighs
      • nikki_
        ruaok: no
      • teleGUISE
that always makes me happy too :)
      • Shepard
teleGUISE: you know, one of the basic concepts on MB is that we have disc ids... ;)
      • teleGUISE
Shepard: So your putting the disc id into the annotation field ?
      • Shepard
i do that if there are multiple releases and i know where it belongs to
      • same for multiple discogs releases
      • it's all about identifying!
      • teleGUISE
oh.. ok gotcha where its possible the same track order/album id has 2 or more disc id's and you match it to the known release catalog/label data
      • ruaok
I need a volunteer... to write up a FAQ entry on how to add ASINs for cover art.
      • anyone care to volunteer?
      • yalaforge
        it's getting silent ...
      • teleGUISE
ruaok: question did we go backwards on a server update?
      • Knio1 joined the channel
      • yalaforge
nikki_: do you know how that ASIN stuff works?
      • teleGUISE
ruaok: meaning I thought certain features/functions were corrected/implemented and now they don't seem to be in effect
      • nikki_
        nope!
      • yalaforge
who knows? I'll help to write that entry, but I don't know how it works :-)
      • chocomo
how big exactly would this FAQ be?
      • inhouseuk_ joined the channel
      • nikki_
well, I know how to add them
      • but I don't know how the code works
      • teleGUISE
Shepard: did I get the general idea?
      • chocomo
if its just a simple 'how you id it' bit I coudl do it
      • yalaforge
where do we put it? some page on the wiki?
      • Shepard
        teleGUISE: yes
      • teleGUISE
How come everytime I ask about this server update .. mumm aka none is the word?? Is that a horror topic i missed
      • Shepard
if someone writes this FAQ entry, please place it here: http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/ModerationFAQ?highl...
      • Knio has quit
      • inhouseuk has quit
      • yalaforge
teleGUISE: asking about server stuff is a bit difficult inside here. please don't unless absolutely necessary
      • inhouseuk_
inhouseuk_ is now known as inhouseuk
      • yalaforge
alright, you can now add ASINs using ARs, right?
      • chocomo
what on the page or the 'linked' page AmazonRelationshipType
      • nikki_
teehee, look what I got to work: http://lmfao.org.uk/birthdays.png (hey yalaforge, do you recognise it? :))
      • teleGUISE
yalaforge: ?? all i asked is did we go backwards... cuz guess case functinos that I believed to be fixed don't work now, add entry issues that I thought were fixed are not now
      • Shepard
i don't even know if AmazonMatching is still in place
      • chocomo
        I'll do it
      • ruaok
automatic amazon matching hasn't been running in weeks.
      • yalaforge
        nikki_: nice!
      • ruaok
        thanks chocomo
      • chocomo
but you'll have to tell me spezifically where to put it later
      • ruaok
teleGUISE: for the record, no we didn't go backwards.
      • chocomo: mail it to me.
      • chocomo
        righto!
      • Shepard
ruaok: but the delete bot is running again, right?
      • yalaforge
ruaok: was there a server change for the ASIN stuff? if yes, I'll look at it and help mo
      • Shepard
        yalaforge: yes
      • teleGUISE
ruaok: care to briefly clarify... :)? is it my imagination or did things that worked don't now?
      • yalaforge
        Shepard: ok
      • LTjake has quit
      • ruaok
nikki_: that is cool -- we need to add that to the trivia page and officially check that page in...
      • Shepard: delete artists? yes.
      • teleGUISE: I don't know. We didn't intentionally break things just for you, if that is what you're asking.
      • Shepard
i would like to see that other trivia page you made again. with the newest releases and stuff
      • I thought we did ;)
      • ruaok
if something isn't working now, that usd to work. its.... a bug. Please file a bug report.
      • Shepard
        ohh it's there again
      • ruaok
its not official. someone needs to add memcached support for it...
      • dseomn
      • Shepard
        lol a release 2009
      • ruaok
        there was 2055 in there.
      • teleGUISE
well maybe it was my imagination or playing on test servers too much.. specifically there are g0llum case issues that I thought were corrected... (ie.. one simply being the added "." periodleft when Vol., expands to Volume.)
