if you knew of a way how to clone myself :)
      • asmodai
        I can help.
      • donredman
like in interest, but no time?
      • asmodai writes documentation professionally.
      • g0llum
i tried to update my bio today, but somehow the wiki behaves quite differently than the public one
      • donredman
asmodai: do you know the WikiDocs concept?
      • g0llum
and i'd rather continue working on mb_server, there's less chance anyone doing the work there
      • donredman
isn't you bio on the old wikidocs?
      • g0llum
        *confused*
      • asmodai
donredman: I've done both trac wiki editing as well as wikipedia/mediawiki
      • donredman: Not sure if that answers your question
      • donredman
      • the point is not to write explicit documentation but to use the one that's already on the wiki. The hard part is the migration from static html to a full WikiDocs :-(
      • g0llum: which bio do you mean?
      • asmodai
donredman: ok. Mmm, should not be too hard.
      • g0llum
        my entry on /wd/MusicBrainzBio
      • donredman
that one is the OLD wiki docs.
      • g0llum
        eww :)
      • i'm stupid
      • donredman
If you want to really update things, do this: #1 go to MBWiki:PeopleBehindMusicBrainz and replace all the macros by the wiki markup that they include
      • (no includes in WikiDoc pages. Never!)
      • g0llum
the /wd/ pages are outdated like hell
      • donredman
#2 check it against the old /wd/MusicBrainzBio page
      • #3 enter MBWiki:PeopleBehindMusicBrainz into the transclusion table
      • g0llum
        ok. i understand
      • donredman
if everything works #4 enter a ticket for Rob to make a permanent redirect from /wd/MusicBrainzBio to /doc/PeopleBehindMusicBrainz
      • That's a lot of work :-(
      • g0llum
        yes.
      • donredman
and this is only the second worst reason why migration is so hard
      • the worst being coordination
      • g0llum
this is work that is so f***in time-consuming it should be paid work :-|
      • ...well; same can be said about mb_server
      • donredman
asmodai: so actually, yes there is a lot of stuff where you can help. If you want to I can guide you along (and I'll have to do #3 myself, cause you need WikiDocsModerator privs for that)
      • asmodai
        donredman: Sounds good
      • mmm, funny how an album I encoded myself scores for like 50-75% 100% matches with PUIDs and the rest doesn't. :)
      • donredman
If you want to you can start with that bio page (i can fetch you the Markup behind /wd/MusicBrainzBio )
      • asmodai
Apologies for being slow, still at work
      • and debugging a java tomcat install
      • :D
      • donredman
        np
      • just telling you what you need to know
      • asmodai
good, I can always scroll back later :D
      • [btw, any reason for things to be closed source?]
      • nikki_ blinks
      • donredman
BTW the MusicBrainzBio page is probably outdated. If there is a respective CategoryBio page in the wiki use that instead.
      • what is closed source?
      • ngw has quit
      • nikki_
g0llum: while you're around, what's the best way to centre things with css?
      • g0llum
        text-align: center
      • asmodai
donredman: programs for which the source code is not publically viewable with a revision control system? ;)
      • nikki_
        hmm
      • g0llum
        asmodai: the musicip stuff?
      • nikki_: i had a share of problems with that, too.
      • nikki_ wobbles off dizzily to buy some loo roll and choccy fingers before the shops shut
      • GURT
choccy fingers and loo roll just don't sound right in the same sentence
      • nikki_
also, are you like me in prefering classes to embedding styles within the style="" attribute?
      • _mo
_mo is now known as catmo
      • g0llum
yes. keep the pages as lean as possible
      • GURT: rolf
      • yeah, rolf
      • catmo
I always type rolf instead of rofl
      • nikki_
        goodiegoodie
      • catmo
        nikki:
      • ping
      • asmodai
g0llum: the clients for as far I can see.
      • luks
        g0llum: the trac spam deleted
      • donredman
asmodai: the Picard client is GPL and the old windows tagger too, If I am not completely mistaken
      • GURT
hey luks.. you are running ubuntu right? do you have any problems with "ghost" cd/dvd drive icons staying on the desktop and in "computer" after unmounting/ejecting them?
      • asmodai
donredman: my bad for not checking further then yet
      • That would mean I could possibly help out
      • luks
        GURT: nope, I'm using Windows
      • GURT
        k
      • luks
the ubuntu machine I have is only for testing
      • i'd love to switch to ubuntu/gnome. but i hate linux, so ... :)
      • asmodai
        Hahaha
      • asmodai uses whatever he needs to get the job done.
      • Screw fanboys and zealotry.
      • luks
"linux" as kernel, not the GNU/Gnome/etc. environment
      • so I ended up with Windows + lots of *nux tools
      • **nix :)
      • eMb joined the channel
      • GURT
i start a real job with manual labor tomorrow :/
      • donredman
asmodai: sure. For the client ask luks or ruaok
      • luks hides
      • :_)

      • CSR_PEER_UNICOMP is now known as DeimosFawkes
      • DeimosFawkes
        anywho
      • after driving myself mad for the past week
      • i have realized that the web services simply doesn't do exactly what i need
      • i need a track search... but i need the release type data included in the results
      • i would rather not have to requery the system for every returned release to get that
      • nikki_ reappears
      • nikki_
        bastards!
      • ntl have taken to sending their fucking junk mail in generic brown envelopes >_<
      • asmodai pats luks
      • asmodai
        luks: Run while you can
      • nikki_ explodes out of hatred for ntl
      • donredman is leaving the computer for sunshine
      • donredman
        bye
      • donredman has left the channel
      • ojnkpjg
        it's snowing here.

        oh
      • DeimosFawkes
how do i go about requesting that feature be added to the track portion of web services?
      • nikki_
        sunny here
      • nikki_ would either add a ticket in trac or ask on mb-devel
      • yalaforge joined the channel
      • DeimosFawkes adds a ticket
      • yalaforge
        oh? bugs? :-)
      • DeimosFawkes
        no, feature request
      • yalaforge
        ah
      • ojnkpjg has quit
      • toxickore has quit
      • DeimosFawkes
i'm building an album art fetching script for an internet radio station...
      • and the web services doesn't return the exact information i need
      • nikki_
        hi matthias!
      • DeimosFawkes
without having to requery it over and over
      • yalaforge
        hey nikki
      • DeimosFawkes
right now, i use the release query
      • which returns whatever it feels like
      • yalaforge
        the new web service?
      • nikki_
I think you have a special magnet which opens xchat or whatever whenever you can help
      • DeimosFawkes
the track query is far more accurate... but doesn't return the release type
      • nikki_ works on her magnetic field...
      • heh
      • yalaforge
are you talking about the new xml or the old rdf ws?
      • ojnkpjg joined the channel
      • DeimosFawkes
        the new xml
      • which is really snazzy
      • DeimosFawkes likes it a lot
      • yalaforge
the track query uses the lucene track index internally. but it doesn't have release type information
      • DeimosFawkes
        hrm
      • Joan_W joined the channel
      • DeimosFawkes was hoping for an xml result that used the same inputs as the "advanced search" on the main website interface
      • yalaforge
hmm, ok. what do you enter there?
      • DeimosFawkes
since it seems to be fairly accurate and also return release type
      • artist, album, track (all optional)
      • i have to find the album name from the artist and track
      • Joan_W
I thought I was a bit obsessive on this site - but how long do you think it must have taken this chap/ess to prove that I had made a mistake. He only had to give me one link and I would have deleted. http://musicbrainz.org/showmod.html?modid=4559023
