ooh.... well i guess people with the coolest computers don't have the coolest cell phones... or phones from this century :D
Nyght
Very true.. the computer is only six months old, the cell phone.. geh, two years?
teleGUISE
actually old ericssons were alright... still some of the oddest software though
Nyght
and I have no clue what phone to go into next.
inhouseuk
it does everything I need. voice/data bluetooth etc
Coeus joined the channel
if I want to take photos, I use a camera :)
Nyght
that's the better way to go inhouseuk
teleGUISE
i was gonna say i have a case of ericsson camera attachments... but that wouldnt do you any good
inhouseuk
nope, it would fit this model
teleGUISE
so being a CMDA Verizon girl you must have an LG ?
thats DM of course
inhouseuk
also, this ericsson is solidly built, if doesn't shatter into a million bits if you drop it
teleGUISE
might have some batteries... for a 520 still..
Nyght
no, it's the motorola 710.. what I'm going into? I dunno yet. Want bluetooth, Verizon didn't have many of those back then
inhouseuk
thanks, but I have a couple of spares anyway
teleGUISE
geez.. i can't even give the stuff away :)
Nyght
in fact, that's why I got locked into this one.. it was the first bluetooth verizon got
inhouseuk
sorry
teleGUISE
that's ok ill make some laptop battery out of a group of them or something
as long as i have about 6 or so
Nyght
How do you get all those old spare parts?
teleGUISE
Service center for Nokia...
as far as others they come from good friends/connections at the carriers
Nyght
Ah, very cool!
So, you probably tend to tout nokia?
teleGUISE
though new it's not like the old days... see before when a customer had a bad phone they would pull a new one off the shelf and exchange *JUST* the phone.. however there was no system on what to do with all the other pieces... and about every 6months corporate would tell the stores to just throw the shit about but destory it!... so lets just say it never quite made it there ;)
now... *NO* exchange is done via the store.. it's all via mail... and they send out refurbs
Pipian has quit
Yes... tele IS a NOKIA LOVER
Nyght
I hate refurbs, it's why this one has gone back like, six times!
but yeah, no reason to just destroy that stuff, that's messed up for many reasons!
teleGUISE
especially since the kicked Motorla's arse and put them in their place by detrhoning them from being the #1 cellular manufacturer... Boy i loved that day
+y
Nyght
LOL
teleGUISE
boy was that statement all typing borked
Nyght
of course, but we gave up fixing your typos
teleGUISE
:)
i hate corps that get a big head like Motorola ... and think nobody can make a better product... then here comes the good ole Finnish Paper & Rubber manufacturer and dethrone the electronics king of the US ... hee hee
Nyght
as far as I can tell, they borked themselves
inhouseuk
the motorola menu system on phones is terrible
teleGUISE
yea you should have saw their first Digital prototypes... eeek!!! shit literally caught on fire
motorola finally has gotten a little better with their menus...
Nyght
I had a norelco shaver do that to me on a bench
teleGUISE
otherwise your spot on inhouseuk they sucked!
Nyght
I liked their menu system more than a lot of phones, but, I was always on startec's so that's all I've seen
teleGUISE
they were to busy convincing everyone to use D-Amps.. while the rest of the world used GSM ...
of course because they invented D-Amps
aka Dumb not Digital-Amps
Nyght
Does Nokia still have one of those small keyboard data phones with the win ce?
teleGUISE umm... ponders a Nokia with win ce... had to be a cdma phone..
probably
inhouseuk
gsm coverage is over 99% in the UK, but I still have fun getting a signal in some places when I visit Ukraine
Nyght
as I recall it was the one that they used in the movie for The Saint
teleGUISE
d211?
Nyght shrugs and looks like she's lost
oh your thinking the Communicator.. flip open phone?
no unfortunately.. they are GSM not CDMA phones... .. I never really use my 9300
new one has built in 802.11 wifi
inhouseuk can see that would be useful
inhouseuk
ideal for using in hotels and internet cafes
Nyght
:( you could send that to me. :)
I take it that's sprint?
or is it T Mobile?
teleGUISE
aww.. can't find pictures of my first communicator.. boy what an ugly beast that was
You really want it?
you cant have the 9300i...
still play with that one ... though will be board if i get a 9500
believe it or not my everyday phone is just like inhouse's basic to the point and just what i need.. the others are just eye candy
Spring/Verizon CDMA - T-Mo Cingular - GSM/TDMA
nokia's cream of the crop is in their roots of GSM... they have invested big $$ in CDMA however..
i don't do any repairs .. well i won't say any.. but factory CDMA repairs.. they want you to do a whole other certification program and equipment .. and it's really not worth it now a days
so unfortunately i dont have a big collection of hip CDMA phones to choose phone to send ya ..
s/phone/from
Nyght
Well, dependant on what you'd want to charge me for it. :) Yeah, I'm truly interested in it.
Nyght kicks the net to get it working "right".
teleGUISE has a waterdamaged CDMA Razor... you could look at :)-
teleGUISE
you would think you shave in the shower so it should handle water a little better
Nyght
LOL hmm, look? Well, I'd prefer to use! Of course.. if it was off when the water hit it... unless it went through Katrina...
Nyght winces and then puts teleGUISE in the punintentiary
teleGUISE
i tried to revive that one... managed to get it to power up... but it must have borked the rf section cuz.. it has 0 signal
Nyght
Yeah, it they were on during their trip in the water, it's not usually the best. You might be able to pick one with a messed up screen on one of those free user sites, the ones people don't believe in throwing anything away from.
teleGUISE
going to just mount a bic on the end of it ;)
Nyght
:) I wanna see the picture.
teleGUISE
crap i dont think i have the one i morphed still... before the razor first came out i made one and sent to all my buddies whom know that i am not a big moto lover
Nyght
if you find it, make sure and let me know. :)
wolfsong13
what?
oops
teleGUISE
i will... everyone wants me to take the old motorola brick... the 800 and put a digital phone insite it... but thats like to much work to get to work
inhouseuk goes to get a few hours sleep before his wife gets home
8000 that is
night inhouseuk
Nyght
why, why would anyone want one of those huge pieces.. I know they loved them, but.. crime!
crap they are worth that much!!! i threw a box of like 50 out!
everyone kept laughing cuz i kept them... shizzit now i'm pissed
Nyght
insane!
teleGUISE
i mean many were beat to heck.. and i figured nobody would want a phone that ummm that has no battery life and us about totally phased out
oh well... i still have 3 or 4 i think
Oh yes, the price was some $3,995 in 1983 dollars.
Nyght
Yeah, I know, my uncle bought one. I don't think it was the 8000x, because it had a huge box that it was attached to for the battery.
Huge to me, because it was... well, huge! Like a lunchbox.
teleGUISE
i still have a car transceiver in the garage i think..
Nyght
Yeah, that thing!
LOL me, I know so much!
teleGUISE
and maybe a transportable or 2
Nyght
:)
It was one that was a model that walked about.. but, could and was used in a car.
purchased in the U.S. and I think the funniest thing was when he got back to Germany he couldn't use it. :)
My uncle is an electronics snob. First cell phones, the SAE stereo system? All rack mount? Are you familiar with it?
SenRepus has quit
teleGUISE
buddy used to be a service center for audio components.. i seem to remember him mentioning SAE .. wasn't his thing forgot what kind of receivers he liked
think he was a Marantz man
Nyght
I don't know, but I got my uncles old system, and when we were setting up insurance for the house, I was supposed to get replacement values for the "bigger" things. Turns out he spent, well, almost the price of a car on a stereo unit.
teleGUISE
and JBL studio monitors
Nyght
very nice ;) I like JBL and they're just a little company, or, were.
Polk was always our brand in the pawn shop.
Or, maybe it was Polk that was the little guy with great product.
yeah.. I got them confuzzled.
teleGUISE
yea.. its crazy how the price of common electronics have taken such a major dive over the past decade
well Matthew Polk was a guy... not sure how tall he was ;)
Nyght
LOL
oh, probably 5' 9''
just a guess. ;)
teleGUISE
i'd say both are pretty big.. i assume JBL being the bigger..
:0
Nyght
my first was 5'1''
teleGUISE
ur first?
Nyght
well, Polk at the time... was still small enough to not be in assembly.
