in that case, the quoted sentence is very misleading
it sounds like picard is an alternative to the web interface that also tags files
anyway
i take it then, that there's no way to 'grab' info from other sources when inputting to mb, in the way that, for isntance, helium grabs info from amazon.com ?
luks
the only automatic option is importing from freedb
lol i thought that meant the music reccomendation site
luks
heh
Guest87262
and i thought it meant a *dialogue* box, lol
"Pandora's Dialogue Box"
so this parser just does title, number, time, and track artist?
luks
yes
mudcrow
grumble grumble whine
I wish peoplw wouldnt add crap that gives me a headache trying to figure out what it is
Ek Baat Kahoon 11 bloody soundtracks have a song called Ek Baat Kahoon - bastards
slaad has quit
Prodoc
damn...even I didn't know we even had a track parser...
I never bothered to click any of the plusses, I always added to info manually or copy+past each title from a tracklisting...
that shows you that the page isn't very intuitive
mudcrow
I found it
after someone told me it was there
Prodoc
aye, you have to know that the function exists
warp
i spent quite some time looking for it recently, even though I had used it before.
mudcrow
I parse everything now. much better than importing crap from freedb and fixing it
Prodoc
where is the freedb import hidden anyway?
I never use that one either
Prodoc feels realy stupid now
Muz has quit
mudcrow
in the menu at the top of the screen, and when you click add release and in the menu on every artist page
Prodoc
at the top of the Edter Release page?
Enter
I did look for it but again didn't bother to use the plusses to expand the options, is it hidden in there as well?
mudcrow
top menu of every page - Edit freedb import. Also when you click add release there's an option to import then and on every artist page under their name is "Import release "
Prodoc
hmmm
Guest87262
where do you get your tracklists, google?
Prodoc
amazon, allmusic, discogs, whatever you like
so basically yes, google
;-)
Prodoc goes expanding my list of MB things that need to be addressed
mudcrow
discogs, flex, kill by death, scumville, indiafm, desimusic. anywhere except amazon or freedb
Guest87262
why not amazon or freedb?
warp
oh, i still prefer freedb with little fixes in most cases.
mudcrow
because they are both full of errors
warp
especially if i'm just copying from a physical jewel case :)
Prodoc
but if you can't find a better source it's always an option but you'll have to go through every title to double check
mudcrow
most of the punk stuff I enter is vinyl, so it shouldnt be in freedb anyway
Guest87262
mudcrow know any good vinyl databases?
mudcrow
discogs
Guest87262
i often have cd rips and don't know where side b begins :p
mudcrow
flex for USA punk
although that isnt a database
musicbrainz of course too
Guest87262
how does it store/show side info?
mudcrow
nope but a lot of artists have links to discographys that do show that info
Guest87262
ok, i'm trying to choose a local music db to use, i'm looking for the following criteria:
1. grabs info from mb 2. fetches album art from various sources 3. supports a WIDE array of id3 tags 4. fast!
any suggestions?
Prodoc
The only suggestion I can make would be to create your own program
Guest87262
well, what comes closest to what i've described?
Prodoc
there isn't a combination of it all
Guest87262
i gave up on the writing to mb from the program factor
Prodoc
mp3tag comes close dealing with point 1, 3 and 4
foobar comes close with 3 and 4
itnues comes close with 2 -various
itunes
mudcrow
foobar had trouble reading some of my tags, why i stopped using it
Guest87262
i think i saw some foobar album grabbing plugin
Prodoc
but note that it's a nightmare if it comes to writing tags
Guest87262
but nothing for mb grabbing
Prodoc
(iTunes)
Guest87262
but foobar's DB functionality seems limited, unless i'm missing something
inhouseuk: so what is the point of the table, what valuable data does it hold?
inhouseuk
it's used as a sort of index for the searching
chancey
the reason i am asking is, a awhile ago i wrote a mysql port for the musicbrainz_db. But trackswords has no key, so its slowing down the replications hisiously
so does it hold any integral data in the database?
inhouseuk
no the data isn't valuable. You don't need to maintain it via replication unless you are using the seach
