      • BrianFreud
I've had a few bands I've caught doing that too
      • FauxFaux
BrianFreud: I completely fail at whatever UPC is, where does it appear on the site? :)
      • Jugdish
fauxfaux: since you seem to be so quick at this ;) how about a search for 13-digit barcodes that begin with "999"?
      • BrianFreud
        barcode
      • (Interscope Records 602498611265) <---
      • very easy to quickly find the missing ASIN, if there is one, if you have a ECC-13/UPC to find it with
      • !upc 602498611265
      • YAUB
BrianFreud: ASIN: B0000DZDYN; UPC: 602498611265; Country: U.S. and Canada; Label: Interscope Records; Year: 2003; Title: The Singles 1992-2003; Artists: No Doubt
      • Jugdish
brianfreud: i predict such reports will be HUGE
      • FauxFaux
Jugdish: Won't be bigger than the REPORT OF DOOM. :p
      • BrianFreud
        lol
      • Jugdish
releases with ASINs but no barcodes? that'll be like 70% of the db :P
      • drsaunde
how sure are we of the accuracy of UPC from Yaub?
      • BrianFreud
        it's direct from amazon
      • Jugdish
i always google the upc given by YAUB just to double-check
      • BrianFreud
I have yet, in a few 100 checks, to find a bad asin-upc linkage
      • drsaunde
yeah...but without more info they may be from completely diff versions
      • BrianFreud
no, that's the type I was looking for
      • cross-checking at B&N or wherever
      • Jugdish
        yeah
      • BrianFreud
always comes up the right version
      • FauxFaux
        PgAdmin sucks asss.
      • BrianFreud
        question for you guys...
      • drsaunde
okay...could i maybe ask when entering a yaub UPC (as opposed to one from an actual copy or photo of such)...to include YAUB on the edit note
      • BrianFreud
how much do you trust non-.fr Amazon dates for non-imports?
      • drsaunde: sure, if not cross verified
      • most ppl have no idea what YAUB is, so they get confused
      • drsaunde
ty....won't be much effort..but just in case something is wrong or added to the wrong version it'll be easier to determine
      • BrianFreud
        sure
      • FauxFaux
Jugdish: I'm done failing, you can have your report now. :) http://faux.no-ip.biz/mergeproblems/barcodes999...
      • BrianFreud
umm, I get 5 listings now
      • Jugdish
fauxfaux: thanks! actually, it turns out a report of 13-digit barcodes beginning in just "99" would be more accurate :P
      • FauxFaux
        Jugdish: Fixed. :p
      • Jugdish
        quick!
      • and no difference :P
      • FauxFaux changes the heading so it doesn't confuse BrianFreud.
      • LOL
      • BrianFreud
        ah
      • Jugdish sees a barcode that he himself added
      • 99-upc = bogus?
      • Jugdish
        yeah
      • FauxFaux
Jugdish: There's only 5 starting with 99, regardless of length. :)
      • BrianFreud
        hmmm
      • what about a report of releases with the "amazon bogus date" date?
      • FauxFaux
How would that work? *looks at upc->asins while you explain*
      • Jugdish
LOL good god, i am responsible for 3 of these bogus barcodes
      • Jugdish fails at mb
      • BrianFreud slaps Jugdish around a bit with a large trout
      • BrianFreud
FauxFaux: Amazon assigns "1990-10-25" to any release they have no idea on release date for.
      • FauxFaux
BrianFreud: Don't think that data is in mb, though, is it?
      • BrianFreud
        release events?
      • FauxFaux
Oh, releases with that release event? YOu can do that search via the site. :)
      • BrianFreud
        you can?
      • FauxFaux
Well, you can do it in the webservice, so I guess so. :p
      • BrianFreud
        lol
      • drsaunde
the 1990-10-25 is the date amazon started...those are dates from releases from the site opening
      • BrianFreud isn't aware of a way to search via the site for all releases with a given date
      • FauxFaux
      • BrianFreud
        ah
      • hmm, there's a few of those too
      • FauxFaux
      • Jugdish
brianfreud: do an advanced text search with "date:1990-10-25"
      • BrianFreud
        ah, ok, thanks :)
      • Jugdish
        not bad, only 6
      • FauxFaux
My method for getting releases with upc but no asin appears to take aaages.
      • BrianFreud
        can't be worse than mine...
      • load in picard, resave to "has upc no asin/music" or "has asin no upc/music"
      • :p
      • Jugdish
fauxfaux: i have a feeling because there will be 239845723987432 results
      • FauxFaux
        Cost: 660975571.65.
      • That's bad, kay?
      • Jugdish
        heh
      • FauxFaux
Jugdish: UPC but no asin, not the other way around. :)
      • Jugdish
        oh
      • BrianFreud
yeah, that's the more useful one anyhow
      • asin, no upc... so many bad asins from the old bot, I wouldn't trust it anyhow
      • FauxFaux
SQL huts my head, you bastards.
      • BrianFreud
BrianFreud is now known as KenneyIsDead
      • KenneyIsDead
KenneyIsDead is now known as BrianFreud
      • FauxFaux
        Hah, yes, that's slightly faster.
      • BrianFreud thinks FauxFaux just found the turbo button on his 286
      • Jugdish
        lol
      • i remember those buttons
      • FauxFaux
Heh, don't make me go buy a new machine. :P
      • Jugdish
so stupid, it's like having a fast/slow switch
      • FauxFaux
This one has a cost of 7k, that's slightly better.
      • BrianFreud
ugh, I so need to rebuild mine
      • it's so mangled, trying to keep it running, bits just slapped in til they break again
      • I have one of those Abit board with the bad cap problems... mine's lasted much longer than most, but it's on its last legs
      • FauxFaux
      • (No, you don't deserve names)
      • Jugdish
        O_o
      • FauxFaux
It takes a disgusting ammount of time to fetch the names in sql, for no apparent reason, maybe I'll do it manually. >.<
      • There you go, even uglier. :P
      • Jugdish
        how about a:visited color?
      • FauxFaux
There's no style-overrides, does your browser not have an a-visited colour by default?
      • Jugdish
        hmm, supposedly
      • BrianFreud
        lol
      • thanks FauxFaux
      • Jugdish
wonder if it's not registering because /show/?releaseid= redirects to mbid/XXXX-XXX-XXX.html
      • FauxFaux
        Works in ie/opera.
      • And it doesn't redirect here. :)
      • BrianFreud
        and FF here
      • Jugdish
        well i just suck then
      • Jugdish cries in the corner
      • FauxFaux
        Unlucky.
      • BrianFreud joined the channel
      • Jugdish
        O_o
      • there is no way to get rid of labels! AHHHHH --> http://test.musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=417
      • BrianFreud
well, there's one less ASIN missing :)
      • FauxFaux
Refresh for album names, not sure how that helps, though. :)
      • BrianFreud
trying to see why the xml won't validate
      • FauxFaux
        Hmm?
      • BrianFreud
actually, it's maybe more useful with the barcodes
      • FauxFaux
        Can't have both, I'm afraid. :p
      • BrianFreud
        yeah
      • FauxFaux
        Barcodes, without the eyeburning.
      • BrianFreud
trying to import into access, so it's manageable
      • it's whining about non-compliant xml
      • FauxFaux
Oh, it's nowhere near valid. Allow me to fix.
      • BrianFreud
        lol
      • FauxFaux
        Result:Failed validation, 0 error
      • So, I dunno if that's better or not, but try it now. :)
      • BrianFreud waits for faux to set the reports up as rss feeds
      • BrianFreud
        ;)
      • FauxFaux
Ugh, printing rss is a pain, y'know. What format do you want the stuff for access? Tsv?
      • BrianFreud
        nah
      • actually, it's cool now
      • friendlier xml than the mb service
      • Access doesn't understand xml attribute values :(
      • FauxFaux
      • BrianFreud
        oh, very nice :)
      • MBChatLogger
        I hate the evil empire
      • BrianFreud
yeah, you get a sense of how microsoft doesn't talk internally when you try to use the "xml friendly" O2K3
      • Excel supports attribute tags, access doesn't
      • FauxFaux
Heh. I have 2007 installed here, I haven't even launched it.
      • BrianFreud
so if you need them, you have to import into excel, then link the access db to the excel data
      • FauxFaux
Hah, that file is 400k as an access db.
      • BrianFreud
        lol
      • I'm refusing to install 2007
      • the whole idea of "make it simple - get rid of all the menus" seems idiotic to me
      • FauxFaux
It's apparently very good, I'm sure I'll find out if I ever use an office product. :)
      • BrianFreud
oh, all the MS reps who tried to pitch me on it raved about it
      • but every client who tried switching to it, they hated it
      • FauxFaux
Excuse me if I don't trust your clients. :)
      • BrianFreud
all used the retro-active licensing clause and had me order then O2003 install cds
      • I guess I'm more a fan of menus that stay put... the idea of the menu trying to guess what options I want, I just want the button to be where it should be, not have to hunt for it :P
      • FauxFaux
My first Vista install, I re-enabled the menus in explorer immediately, I haven't done it yet on this one, and I only just noticed, been using it extensively for a week.
      • BrianFreud
yeah... that's the problem in office 2007
