what is this mturk? is it 21th century slavery? http://www.mturk.com/mturk/preview?groupId=1V8Z...
      • FauxFaux
What crazily old version of postgres are you running? :/
      • aCiD2
Cause I was only coding a client side "widget" to submit a rating
      • gioele
$3 for the transcript of a 58-minute lesson
      • yllona
aCiD2: yes, and much more. i particularly like this bit: "Data Verification / Clean-up
      • • Identification of duplicate products in an online product catalog"
      • FauxFaux
Play it double speed and you might meet half-minimum-wage.
      • aCiD2
FauxFaux: Ummm, the latest version in Gentoo
      • Which is pretty new
      • But maybe I didn't compile with view support?
      • FauxFaux
I'd be shocked if you could do that. /me checks something.
      • aCiD2
        yllona: sounds neat :)
      • ruaok
        aCiD2: is that even possible?
      • aCiD2
        Idk!
      • lol
      • let me ssh in again and run faux's script
      • (if he'd give me link :P)
      • yllona
FauxFaux: the mturk transcription service was generating ~50K/mo revenue last time i checked.
      • FauxFaux
http://faux.no-ip.biz/svn/mbreports/cueread2.php <-- and yes, the create view temporary is valid.

      • Create aggregate works
      • gioele
        yllona: 50k per person?
      • FauxFaux
aCiD2: I'm running 8.1, 8.2 is out, but thye own't have removed view support. :p
      • aCiD2
LINE 1: create temporary view album_tracklen as select albumjoin.alb..."
      • yllona
aCiD2: here's another tidbit that makes me tingle: "Quality Management Tools
      • Amazon Mechanical Turk provides several mechanisms to help you ensure the quality of the work you receive. In addition to worker qualifications, plurality is another mechanism to help developers maintain high quality levels. This functionality enables multiple workers to submit answers to the same HIT. When a specific number of workers reply back with the same answer, the HIT is automatically approved. Additionally, you only
      • FauxFaux
Remove the temporary and try it?
      • aCiD2
        ok
      • that works faux
      • FauxFaux
        Great!
      • ruaok
        Sharon: mail sent.
      • aCiD2
        create table db killing time!
      • yllona: so what does that last bit actually mean?
      • yllona
FauxFaux: the transcription service as a whole was generating 50K/mo, lat time i checked and that would be last summer.
      • FauxFaux
I'd hope it'd be a lot faster on your machine than my poor 512mb unassisted vm. :)
      • yllona: Masochists.
      • Sharon
        ruaok: thanks.. reading it.
      • yllona
aCiD2: there's your ranking/rating system API, already designed. you don't need to use mturk, it's just a well-established model to work from
      • ruaok
Sharon: the wiki page will be: http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/RatingSystem
      • Sharon
        ruaok: okay.
      • yllona
FauxFaux: i worked on an online transcription system for first responders during hurricane katrina. professional transcribers are so fast it's amazing. so yes, as a worker bee (transcriber), you could earn some very easy money

      • Sharon
ruaok: where exactly do i put this link?
      • ruaok
on the rating page where a user rates an entity.
      • that page needs lots more text, for sure. :)
      • Sharon
        yeah okay :)
      • aCiD2
FauxFaux: wow, that query finished already.. seems a bit quick
      • Anyway, script seems to execute now, I'll just finish hacking it :)
      • FauxFaux
aCiD2: Mm, ~twice as fast, not bad.
      • aCiD2
Urk, it returns 0 rows for your numbers faux :(
      • FauxFaux
You should have at least as many rows in the new table as in the album table.
      • (brb 3 minutes)
      • aCiD2
        FauxFaux: http://dpaste.com/14153/ is my SQL

      • catgroove
ruaok I want to edit on music I like and similar music. ruaok don't make me peer review the crap I don't know/like. <-- that makes sense :D
      • ruaok
        yay! someone gets it!
      • aCiD2

      • aCiD2

      • anyway
      • faux, select count(*) from album_tracklist, 492947
      • select count(*) from album 492950
      • so that doesn't look right
      • ruaok

      • aCiD2
        I don't rate that trash, mo :
      • FauxFaux
aCiD2: Isn't the album table many times bigger than that..?
      • aCiD2
        :P*
      • FauxFaux: dunno, that's what count is giving me
      • ruaok
        that sounds right for releases.
      • FauxFaux waits for my db server to boot again.
      • aCiD2
        hehe
      • If you'd add me to your damn pg_hba I'd have finished this script! *waves fist*

      • ruaok
        nearly half a mil.
      • nice. :)
      • aCiD2
still waiting on my pg to return :P
      • yea, 0.58 mil here
      • umm, 5.8million, even
      • FauxFaux
        Yeah.
      • (Aagh, it's paging, aagh!)
      • aCiD2
I wonder what went wrong with album_track thingy :(
      • FauxFaux
Look at the first 5 rows or so (select * from album_tracklist limit 5; if you refuse to use a graphical client), should be something like 4, {44444,4234234,24134566,23,4123,4123,1234123,412,341,2341234},9
      • aCiD2
        I just dropped it :P
      • gonna try again, heh
      • FauxFaux
Oh, that sample doesn't have adding the indexes, might want to add that for speed, won't affect the results, though. :)
      • catgroove
I keep reading " select count(*) from foo bar" as "select cunt(*).."
      • ruaok
        LOL
      • FauxFaux
(Also a) dvorak sucks and b) how the hell is asf harder than afs? :P)
      • aCiD2
dvorak does not suck, it's waaay comfier
      • for me anyway
      • catgroove
        sooo. about those trakc annotations
      • also a year ago tagger icon
      • FauxFaux
It's like they've intentionally designed it to be harder to use. Swapping keys that are right next to each other can't make /that/ much different. (ty for instance). And changing the symbol keys that aren't near the home row anyway.
      • aCiD2
good lord, select * from album_tracklen limit 10 takes a bit of time :P
      • FauxFaux
Yeah, views don't pre-calculate any data, that has to scan and filter the entirety of the track table. :p
      • aCiD2
ah... well it's gotta do select queries for the script anyway
      • so it might as well do it now!
      • aCiD2 goes to get some wheetabix
      • catgroove
ruaok: do you remember how you asked me for a redesign of the tagger image?
      • aCiD2
and faux, just open your db up! I wanna test my script :(
      • FauxFaux
        aCiD2: Um.. views don't cache..
      • ruaok
        the download image?
      • catgroove
        that to
      • ruaok
aCiD2: do you need access to a DB?
      • catgroove
but the 'tagger' icon for picard
      • ruaok
        ok...
      • now that the tagger belongs more to luks than me, I'm not sure if I am in the position to ask for that anymore.
      • shit, picardqt doesn't belong to me at all.
      • catgroove
        that is very true
      • ruaok
I did like your note graphics, though.
      • catgroove
        .)
      • i'd like somesort of enhancement on the bugtracker where eI could uploadthem
      • aCiD2
ruaok: yes, but with faux's custom table added
      • catgroove
so that if eventually they get used, the peron codignthem would kbow where to go
      • aCiD2
I have my own db, but I can' get his table to work
      • catgroove
        *get them from
      • ruaok
catgroove: why not make them attachements to bug reports?
      • catgroove
        yes
      • FauxFaux
Ping me, I'm going to go be all immature and shoot things.
      • catgroove
but I need a bugreport first!
      • :)
      • ruaok
        catgroove: then create one!
      • catgroove
        or enhance,ment report
      • ehh
      • ruaok
aCiD2: ping me if you need some access. I've got DBs coming out my arse
      • aCiD2
        haha
      • pm then?
      • ruaok
        is that a yes?
