nikki: ahh yes, now I remember. Writing it down now. Thank you
      • ruaok
I should've prodded people earlier to take notes.
      • BrianFreud
actually, nikki, what if you only had have and want, but could tag any release
      • then you could have the same items in multiple lists...
      • ruaok goes to get ready for bed
      • ruaok
        I've got a minicab for 4am :-(
      • nikki
well, I'm not sure exactly how he's planning to implement it, maybe it would be possible to add things to multiple lists anyway
      • BrianFreud

I could think of even more lists I could make, like "stuff my mum has", "stuff my nan has"... I remember teleguise asking me about a release I added at one point and I was like "I don't remember adding this... where the hell did it come from?"
      • BrianFreud
since I archive everything due to lack of space, would be nice to tag "DVD backup 1", "DVD backup 2", etc, so I know what disc anything is on
      • nikki
then I could have just looked at the list and said "ah, I added that from my mum's collection"
      • then trotted off to my mum's to find out the answer ;)
      • niklas
BrianFreud: would that be like a individual note for each release?
      • BrianFreud
what would be cool, someday, when we have community editing tags on MB - be able to pull up a list of anything I have in the db as "I have" that also has a "needs fixing" tag... if I have it, I might have a better chance at figuring out what the needed fix is
      • niklas: I was thinking a per track tag, since I often end up spreading releases across backup DVDs
      • niklas
        ah okay
      • niklas writes that down as well
      • warp
nikki: found that morning musume in hawaii dvd on this list, with a probably bogus catalog # :(, http://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~nagaame/dvd/dvd_ma.htm
      • BrianFreud
I only archive if I have been able to generate and submit a puid - it's actually rather rare that I'll have an entire release generate puids all at once, since some seem to require multiple analyses before generating a puid
      • (I have 5000-6000 files currently waiting for puids to be generated)
      • nikki
warp: hmm, thanks, I'm suspicious of it too
      • warp
nikki: some kind of bootleg perhaps?
      • nikki
        no, it's a fanclub release
      • warp
        oh yes.
      • nikki
        how annoying.
      • I don't even buy the DVDs either, so it's not like I'll acquire it any time soon >_<
      • warp
        meh
      • nikki
        thanks though :D
      • warp
yeah, i'll give up now :)
      • Creap
Anyone awake here who would care to help me with the French capitalization at http://musicbrainz.org/release/afd3f7dd-28b0-46... perhaps?

      • Muzzz
Has he started md5 hashing his emails?
      • outsidecontext
        lol
      • sorry brian :p
      • niklas
how come that when I looked up a song in Picard it suggests that it is a totally different song? Is this because someone have tagged it incorrectly?
      • FauxFaux
        Looked up with PUIDs? Probably.
      • Muzzz
        Pweedfail
      • niklas
FauxFaux: I suppose so. Used the lookup button in Picard
      • outsidecontext
or indeed some of those theoratical possible PUID collisions. has anybody done the math on how likely something like this is?
      • FauxFaux
niklas: Lookup does it on the current tags (I believe), scan does it on the PUIDs.
      • Muzzz
niklas: what track did it return?
      • If you go tot he track page, you could find the PUIDs attached, and what tracks are attached to that puid iirc
      • niklas
I believe this has happened to me before, some years ago when I tried using iEatBrainz
      • outsidecontext
no puids used during "lookup", just the tag search AFAIK
      • niklas
FauxFaux: oh. so scan is much more reliable then?
      • FauxFaux
Depends. For stuff I have, which is mostly tagged right, lookup is better. :)
      • niklas
Muzzz: returned P.O.D. - Intro from an album called The Warriors Intro
      • the song I looked up is also named intro
      • ruaok has quit
      • ah. scan is for me then ;)
      • FauxFaux
        :)
      • niklas
what is the pros of using lookup? just that it is faster?
      • FauxFaux
It's more likely to work (every trakc in musicbrainz has a name, not all of them have a puid), etc.
      • outsidecontext
niklas: the lookup uses the "tag lookup" you can see on http://musicbrainz.org/search.html

Hmm. I'm going to remove one of the duplicate performer ARs here: http://musicbrainz.org/show/release/relationshi... Does it matter which one I remove? Is there any reason to prefer one over the other? (notice that the two "Remove" URLs are different)
      • (the duplication is the result of a release merge)
      • outsidecontext
        pick one
      • mikemorr
        eenie meenie miney mo...
      • outsidecontext
the links only contain the IDs of the two different relationships
      • mikemorr
My instinct is to keep the one with the lower ID (older), but I bet it doesn't actually matter
      • foolip
what's up with the url editing? I can't fix an amazon ASIN to non-import
      • CatCat
        foo!
      • XD
      • mikemorr
foolip: maybe just add the .jp as a new ASIN and it might replace the old one? (rather than editing the URL)
      • Wacko` has quit
      • foolip
it would just have two ASINs that way wouldn't it?
      • I'm not sure, but I think so

      • xlotlu
mikemorr: i was offering to make the consistent
      • mikemorr: but if you want them consistent *and* verbose, then you just offered yourself for it :)
      • mikemorr gets serious; CSG debate fatigue can make one loopy
      • mikemorr
Yeah, I would say, the minimum to identify the works on the disc should be sufficient
      • but I'm waiting for Works and Magic Thing aka NGS to fix everything
      • xlotlu
i set the mb-style mails to digest, mark as read on receive, and took a couple of months break from MB when that crazyness started :)

When WorkLists fix everything, the release title should probably be close to what is printed on the release; different recordings of the same work won't need to be titled consistently. Those who want consistent release titles (this includes me) can hopefully get them built from the WorkLists.
      • nikki
foolip: you can't edit urls into one that already exists btw
      • that's usually the problem
      • foolip
        it was the problem
      • nikki
        ah
      • foolip
so, is there a bug report filed for that?
      • nikki
        yes
      • BrianFreud
xlotlu: 1 sec while it loads
      • mikemorr just now realizes the Mozart under discussion is a series and not multiple recordings of the same work
      • xlotlu
mikemorr: WorkLists are closer to reality, or still a pretty utopian dream?
      • mikemorr
        I wish I knew
      • :)
      • xlotlu
yeah, it's a 40 cd-box, and that search shows them all
      • and they're rather inconsistent
      • mikemorr
OK then consistency is good but I don't know whether it should be more or less verbose
      • nikki
      • foolip
        ok, good
      • yllona joined the channel
      • BrianFreud
xlotlu: I would stick with consistency, though in release titles like that I would probably chop out all but the K6 number, saving the K1/2/3/3a for the tracks
      • I've never really been a fan of how such classical titles are done, though I cannot think of a cleaner way to do them
      • xlotlu
so, reduce the 10-or-so extra-verbose ones, and make the rest more verbose :)
      • BrianFreud
the shorter ones work for me
      • though I don't like disc 12 - there's at least three Requiems; it's assumed that one is K. 626, but it doesn't have to be
      • xlotlu
Concerto for Flute No. 1 in G major, K. 285c/313: III. Rondo. Tempo di menuetto
      • ugh sorry for that
