set the "is a version/later release of" ARs and hope for track masters asap :D
navap
But then I would have to hope that last.fm adopts track masters as well.
Otherwise, it doesn't really do much, stats wire.
wise*
brianfreud
somehow, I would think they'd be among those who most want them added anyhow
catgroove
i really don't care about last.fm anymre
navap likes looking at playback stats.
i'm apparently no good because i don't come from x country
navap
And yea, I imagine you're right that they would want something like that.
nikki has been setting version/release/remix relationships yesterday and today :D
nikki
that's why I need my treetablelistthingy
navap
catgroove: I hear what you mean..I'm practically just in an extension of the US but I'm excluded as well.
catgroove
i don't mind paying, i have absolutely NO wrong with that. it's that *other guy x* doesn't have to, that i'mnot coolwith
nikki agrees
nikki
why do america, the uk and germany get it free anyway?
brianfreud
last.fm charges now?
catgroove
either everyone or noone
navap
Probaby the biggest userbase?
catgroove
bull
navap
Don't want to upset them?
brianfreud
I admit, I've somewhat ignored the site for a while now
catgroove
well it will be the biggest userbase after tihs
warp
nikki: because last.fm has enough advertisement income from those regions.
catgroove: you norwegians don't click enough banners!
nikki
I don't use it much now 'cause it's slow, half the time the pages just never finish loading :/
navap
Which is related to bigger userbase :p
nikki
warp: where did they say that?
catgroove
not myf ault
warp
nikki: in the comments of the announcement.
nikki
ah
catgroove
i *paid* subcription, so i dint have to click on adds
aperantly that's wrong
warp
catgroove: if you paid, then you can still listen to the stream, nothing changes for you.
catgroove
it's the prinicpal of the thing
principle
whatever
i *can* aford it
but to people who can't
it's not fair
like idk, philiphines or taiwan
the french and the italians are gettign shafted too
it's not that paying, its the others don't haveto
it is grossly unfair
warp
nikki: "These are the countries in which we have the most resources to support an ad sales organization, which is how we earn money to pay artists and labels for their music. We are focused on the US, UK, and Germany as key markets, with the help of the CBS Interactive salesforce and our own sales team here in London. Our headquarters are in the UK and we’ve always had a strong presence in DE."
catgroove
we even don't get as good for wha we pay as those that get it for *free* do
navap_ joined the channel
warp
I think it is pretty fair.
catgroove
it doesn't make sence, they hould chargethem, the biggest userbase.
warp
they make enough money in those areas that they don't have to charge those users. sadly, they do have to do that in other regions.
catgroove
the only thing that'll happen is that they lose a to nof users wh owouldn'v other wise payed of theri *free will*
free will is a big thing for me, i payed because i wanted to, because i wanted to suport. i don't care for paying because i *have* to
navap_ has quit
warp
catgroove: i doubt that is more than those who will now pay for the service, and otherwise wouldn't have bothered.
catgroove
because they have to
warp
ofcourse they don't.
catgroove
yes they do
that or move to some other country
i should move to the uk?
warp
you can still use the site without paying. except the radio streams, if you _want_ those, sure, you have to pay for it. it's not like it's cheap to stream music for free to all of the internets. it's only fair that you pay for it.
catgroove
why do i have to move to another country to get the same deal *over the WEB*
brianfreud
I know norway's not in the EU, so this wouldn't apply, but I'm surprised that they can legally give it free to DE and UK, but not other EU countries
catgroove
yepp. but it's not fair that some other people lget it for free while others (in countriesthat are poor) have to pay
brianfreud good point
warp
brianfreud: eh? legal is not the issue here.
nikki
if I ever want to use it from outside those three countries I'll just proxy my connections ¬_¬
catgroove
it is with the eu
warp
brianfreud: they can legally stream to most of the world.
catgroove
niiikkiii
brianfreud
warp: I mean differential pricing depending on which EU country you might be in
ie, charging France, etc, but not DE or UK
catgroove pokes nikki with pm
warp
brianfreud: why would that be illegal?
catgroove
brianfreud i can see why a french peron would be *very* annoyed with that
brianfreud
warp: differential / preferential pricing within the EU trade zone?
warp
brianfreud: yes? :)
brianfreud
I kind of thought that wasn't permitted by the EU constitution
warp
there is no EU constitution, that thing didn't make it.
nikki
I thought different pricing wasn't allowed either, but then again, that didn't stop itunes so I guess not
Muz_ likes the uneducated assumptions being made here.
Muz_
Oh internet, you never fail to deliver.
warp
muz :)
atleast we don't get godwin in here usually.
Muz_
Yet.
brianfreud never claimed to be edjimikated :D
Also the whole "waaaaah, you'll lose loads of your usebase" and making out the impact to be greater than it is gets tiring.
MClemo
you have a service, you pay a price. If you don't want to use the service, don't pay the price
Muz_
It's not like your whining is really going to make them go against what has been announced.
catgroove
Muz yo udont work there amor, so STFU
MClemo
lol, why get people so worked up about this?
warp
MClemo: no idea.
Muz_
catgroove: funny that, because everything I know about the internal workings, and past procedures from the past 3 years mean nothing. Along with ideas that had been long announced internal months ago.
catgroove
because we thouht last.fm was different thna all the other craps
Muz_
It's not strictly last.fm's fault though, so you can't point the finger at them.
catgroove
all right, true enough
Muz_
Not can you really blame the labels for all of this. It's an amalgum of a another things.
*Nor
MClemo
last.fm is a business like any other. It's not that streaming to the world doesn't cost anything
so why shouldn't they charge?
nikki
MClemo: I think for a lot of people it's the fact they only charge some countries and not others
warp
MClemo: catgroove is mostly annoyed by who they charge and who they don't charge.
catgroove
again, thats not the problem? its the "free for u, but not fi u" attitude
Muz_
A lot of this negativity is the by product of the current internet age we live in with this mentality of "I can get it for free, so why don't I?"
MClemo
well, that different regions pay different prices isn't a new thing in economy either
Muz_
catgroove: lots of things in life are like that. Country specific markets have been about for ages.
catgroove
its the internett, ther is no such thing as "borders" :)
warp
Muz: yeah, all those comments going "oh noez! spotify is a much better deal. i will never pay for last.fm!"
catgroove
i still think it's lame
Muz_
Legally speaking there still is. You're preching about an idealistic idea which more industries need to adopt if Last.fm were to continue the way they were in a much more sustainable matter.
catgroove
i'm intitleded to thin kti's lame, i belive im' right in thinking it's lame
czaanja has quit
i'm not saying any of those thing's arent true, heck they are true
it's still. lame
Muz_
warp: the main issue is how this service has been "taken away" from other people, not so much enforcing this. Many other products do this, Spotify included.
Milosz has quit
catgroove
meh, spotify sucks balls too
they all do, it was that last.fm *didn't*
now it does.. just like the rest.. whopee
Muz_
I fail to see how Spotify sucks, it offers a much better service in my opinion.
catgroove shrughs
warp doesn't know spotify.
catgroove
meh, lost is on
bye gys
warp
I don't use the streaming on last.fm anyway.
Muz_
Reasons are often nice when accompanied with opinion heh.
warp
last.fm is a bit bloated, I rarely visit it nowadays. I do like the 'events' stuff and use that occassionally.
FauxFaux
I've never used last.fm. ¬_¬
acid2
Bring back audioscrobbler!
acid2 raises his pitchfork
warp
:D
i signed up to audioscrobbler i think.
Muz_
acid2: that's pretty much what you've got if you're not in the US, UK or Germany.
warp
although it was already partly integrated with last.fm at that point.
