yeah, most of my Guatemalan friends just use one when dealing with English speakers. I think they're tired of explaining the whole thing.

Yeah
I have only one in my Facebook account, for example (have lots of non-Spanish friends)
My brother, though, who has mostly Spanish friends, uses both
antgel_
back later, cheers for the help :)

caller_6: the problem is that for example you can have "José Manuel Fernández López", where "José Manuel" is the name and "Fernández" and "López" surnames (and which sorts as "Fernández López, José Manuel")
So people who know little Spanish will get confused regardless
:D
caller_6
reosarevok: I was just going to ask... how do you know where the surnames begin?
Is it obvious to a native Spanish speaker?
reosarevok
Normally, it is
Our names and surnames are usually different
(equally as it would be weird to have someone called Smith John instead of John Smith)
There are some that can be both… but not a lot
caller_6
Well, in English, there /are/ names that could work either way equally well.
reosarevok
So it is *usually* obvious
But sometimes I've had to guess
:(
caller_6
So I might add (in a re-write of SortNameStyle) a suggestion that it's best to ping a native Spanish-speaker if in doubt.
reosarevok
Yeah
Probably
In an ideal world, there would be an option to subscribe to all "Add Artist" edits where the artist country is Spain or a Spanish speaking country (now that we're getting that field in NGS)
But for now, that's probably the best option
caller_6
reosarevok: thanks. That should be enough info to keep me busy for a while.
And also… it says "Release date: Apr 4, 2011" (which I guess is the release date for the album). I should add it as this month anyway, yes? (it seems to have gone public close to midnight CET)

hm hm hm
can I see somehow in picard if a track is a good match because of meta-tags like album, artist and so on OR if a track is a good match because of audio-fingerprint?
because if its audio-fingerprint i can trust it more or less regardless if other meta-data is wrong
i just had some tracks which were totally wronged named completely in all tags
but fingerprint matched and it could be assigned correctly
but anyway it was only shown as orange/red
Mineo
jonsen: iirc fingerprinting will _only_ match if it's a 100% match
jonsen
100% match of what?
of audio content, yes.
but i want to see relatively fast if i can accept an assignement to an album because of a fingerprint
or if its "just" meta-data which matches
i had fingerprinting matches it seems that werent displayed in green
Mineo
the color only depends on the difference in the old and new tags
it has nothing to do with the fingerprint
reosarevok
Isn't it easier to just do scan but no lookup? That way the ones that matched would be all fingerprint matches, yep?
jonsen
so color *is* only meta-data?
Mineo
the fingerprint either matches or doesn't. in color: either green or nothing
jonsen
then i am really confused
because it was sorted to an album but hadnt any matching tags
but it were right, but not displayed in green
reosarevok
The color only depends on metadata. If you find it with fingerprinting scan, but the metadata is "Track 01" "Unknown Artist", the color will likely be orange (if track length / number matches) or red
But it will still (very likely) be correct
jonsen
oh ok that explains it
and only scan results in green?
reosarevok
Green means "metadata matches"
So if you have a well tagged file
jonsen
and what shows me that fingerprint matches?
reosarevok
The fact that you make a scan and it finds the track
"Lookup" doesn't check fingerprints, AFAIK, just tags
While "Scan" doesn't check tags, just fingerprints
jonsen
hm
reosarevok
(someone correct me if I'm wrong)
jonsen
ok so it checks fingerprint and switchs to right side
reosarevok
That's it
jonsen
shows not rectangle but track name
ok fine, that was quite important to know :-)
thanks
reosarevok
But remember that even if you scan one track
jonsen
documentation of picard could be a bit more comprehenasive
reosarevok
Its whole album will appear
(on the right)
jonsen
but anywy good software
ok
reosarevok
Just reminding you because you would still have to scan the rest of the tracks in the album so they got assigned
It won't do it without being told ;)
Mineo
jonsen: it's a wiki, go ahead and edit it :)
reosarevok
(if I want to use fingerprints, I just select all tracks and press Scan and see what happens, usually)
jonsen
problem is (maybe as usual) that you have tracks which can be scanned and some which can only be lookuped
but somehow they have relationship to eachother
reosarevok
Yeah
But at least after the scans
jonsen
Mineo, good point
reosarevok, thats what i have done :-)
reosarevok
You should have an idea of what the hell those tracks are (even if the album is not fully assigned)
Mineo
jonsen: someone has to fingerprint all the files to begin with, otherwise scanning will not work
reosarevok
And PUID fingerprinting has been dead for a while, is it back now?
(not scanning, but actually creating the fingerprints)
Mineo
it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't
jonsen
reosarevok, yes would be of advantage, but if tags totally fsck'ed up its quite difficult to get any efficiency in if you have more than 10k tracks
reosarevok
jonsen: tell me about it, I've had to try to sort the contents of an iPod
jonsen: file names being ESD4 and things like that and tags being crappy
jonsen
yeah
reosarevok hates Apple sometimes
thats exactly the problem
i believe there were like 1000 albums and 1000 tracks
now i have 10000 albums which only 1 track each :)
-> i believe there were like 1.000 albums and 10.000 tracks
-> now i have 10.000 albums which only 1 track each :)
even with picard
reosarevok
Pfft, without a program like Picard that would be impossible to sort. With it… it's just hellish :D
(but possible… if you have time to dedicate to it)
jonsen
i thought about buying jaikoz, but somehow i became the fealing that it wouldnt help me either
nut much more than picard
and automatism can even get it done worse
and the trouble will increase
reosarevok hasn't tried Jaikoz so he couldn't say
fyi, dont buy tuneup
it has nice look and integrates in iTunes
but thats about it
album art has fucked up
since 2 weeks now
and doesnt work with iTunes > 10.1
and something like that costs money
pfff
picard ftw
ruaok joined the channel
one last thing
as soon as i start scanning and it finishes
if it doesnt appear on the right side automagically its not found, correct?
i am just scanning and the albums are appearing on right side
reosarevok
Yeah, I think that's it
jonsen
strangely enough that the scanned tracks don't appear directly on album tracks name but on a sub-folder of the album in "unmatched files"
reosarevok
Hmmm
Did you press "scan" or "cluster"?
jonsen
only scan
reosarevok
That sounds like what "cluster" does…
jonsen
i added folder, scanned and now this is happening
reosarevok uses an old version of Picard
cluster clusters on left side i thought
reosarevok
Oh, ok
It is on the right side
jonsen
yeah
and there under album "unmatched files" folder
so it could get the relation via scan to an album
reosarevok
What's your version and OS? I didn't get that in 0.12 on OSX 10.6, but I don't know if it works equally in all versions
jonsen
but not to a track?
OS is OSX 10.6
reosarevok
Weird
jonsen
Picard is 0.12.1
reosarevok
It scanned to tracks everytime I tried it :/
jonsen
yeah this doesn't sound like making a lot of sense
i mean fingerprint is fingerprint of track not of an album name in track
so could it get relation to album but not to the track inside...
