caller_6: the problem is that for example you can have "José Manuel Fernández López", where "José Manuel" is the name and "Fernández" and "López" surnames (and which sorts as "Fernández López, José Manuel")

So people who know little Spanish will get confused regardless

Normally, it is

Our names and surnames are usually different

(equally as it would be weird to have someone called Smith John instead of John Smith)

There are some that can be both… but not a lot

Well, in English, there /are/ names that could work either way equally well.

So it is *usually* obvious

So I might add (in a re-write of SortNameStyle) a suggestion that it's best to ping a native Spanish-speaker if in doubt.

In an ideal world, there would be an option to subscribe to all "Add Artist" edits where the artist country is Spain or a Spanish speaking country (now that we're getting that field in NGS)

But for now, that's probably the best option

can I see somehow in picard if a track is a good match because of meta-tags like album, artist and so on OR if a track is a good match because of audio-fingerprint?

because if its audio-fingerprint i can trust it more or less regardless if other meta-data is wrong

i just had some tracks which were totally wronged named completely in all tags

but fingerprint matched and it could be assigned correctly

but anyway it was only shown as orange/red

The color only depends on metadata. If you find it with fingerprinting scan, but the metadata is "Track 01" "Unknown Artist", the color will likely be orange (if track length / number matches) or red

But it will still (very likely) be correct

Green means "metadata matches"

So if you have a well tagged file

and what shows me that fingerprint matches?

The fact that you make a scan and it finds the track

"Lookup" doesn't check fingerprints, AFAIK, just tags

While "Scan" doesn't check tags, just fingerprints

You should have an idea of what the hell those tracks are (even if the album is not fully assigned)

jonsen: someone has to fingerprint all the files to begin with, otherwise scanning will not work

And PUID fingerprinting has been dead for a while, is it back now?

(not scanning, but actually creating the fingerprints)

it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't

reosarevok, yes would be of advantage, but if tags totally fsck'ed up its quite difficult to get any efficiency in if you have more than 10k tracks

i believe there were like 1000 albums and 1000 tracks

now i have 10000 albums which only 1 track each :)

What's your version and OS? I didn't get that in 0.12 on OSX 10.6, but I don't know if it works equally in all versions
