we did migrate copying over the modpending column though. we probably should have just used zero

        huh, an NGS subscription email
      • I guess that went well, then ;)
      • nikki
        hi kepstin!
      • we're planning to switch completely in about 6 hours
      • but you can already edit on http://ngs.musicbrainz.org/
      • ocharles
kepstin: does it point to ngs.mb in the email
      • ?

nikki: sorry I was bbq but didn’t have time to tell here
      • thanks for the aliases, it’s ok if we can create without locale
      • that answers my interrogations on this topic
      • nikki
        no problem
      • jesus2099
i’d like to input a release, maybe i’ll try to create the RG first now..
      • nikki: with works aliases, there is theorically no need for pseudo releases.
      • nikki
works don't store version information though :/
      • jesus2099
        ah yes
      • nikki
there's a ticket in jira for recording/release aliases somewhere
      • jesus2099
nikki: but anyway such things are very difficult i think... there are lots of things that are hidden in ngs, i feel quite olst by all the implications, all the links in all the directions that are hidden behind an album entry
      • and the work that it induces
      • nikki
all the links in all the directions?
      • jesus2099
treating correctly all the works for only one artist is going to take quite a while already
      • nikki: "all the links in all the directions?" yes a release has n tracklists which has n releases, which has n artists ertiouerptierupotiuzep (._.?)
      • when you edit a release you FEEL the complexity now
      • it’s like we went from release1.txt files to an access database or somehting advanced like that

        hé ?
      • intgr
        Yes that's right.
      • Wizzcat
jesus2099: it's not like everything was obvious on the old mbz, we were just used to it
      • and considering that NGS *is* more complex, it's hard to keep it as simple regardless

      • intgr
Seems like massive overengineering to me, but hey what do I know. :)
      • jesus2099_
intgr: oh I read the backlog, yes I also have difficulties in seeing if an edit is open closed novoted yesvoted etc.
      • Wizzcat: I agree
      • it would be nice that the “Open edits” link would show the number of edits (like http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/42102 )
      • (totally unrelated)
      • ocharles
it does, at the top, but i can only guess when there are more than 500
      • counting the amount of open edits takes too long otherwise
      • (and yes I know that means it's going to just about always say 500)
      • :P
      • jesus2099_
it could display “49 open edits” or “More than 500 open edits” according to the situation (on the entity page), is that taking too much time too ?
      • reosarevok
"499 open edits" -> "There are more than 500 open edits! Vote, vote, vote!!!!"
      • nikki
        haha
      • I like that
      • reosarevok
(of course, it will be a lie if there are *exactly* 500, but that can be our little secret)
      • ocharles
        jesus2099_: that's what it's meant to do
      • drsaunde
        i've been voting like crazy..sigh

      • jesus2099
ocharles: It’s currently like this on the first edit search page but I meant to have this on the “Open edits” link directly on entity page
      • Leftmost
If I click on the >> button, it goes to page 20 and says 975 with 39 pages.
      • ocharles
Leftmost: yep, it's missing "least" in both of them
      • ticket plz
      • jesus2099
        ocharles: me ?
      • ocharles
jesus2099: oh, I see. you can stick /open_edits to the address and see only open edits :)
      • Leftmost
What if I submit a ticket with a patch? What will you do then?
      • ocharles
Leftmost: hunt you down. and hug you.
      • jesus2099: you should submit a bug report about the missing 'open edits' link
      • nikki
huh? there already is an open edits link
      • ocharles
nikki: I don't think it's on all entities
      • could be wrong
      • nikki
I'm sure I checked that while doing the sidebar stuff
      • jesus2099
ocharles: it’s not missing, it doesn’t show the edit-count
      • ocharles
        oh, I see
      • then you should submit a ticket for that
      • nikki
        oh
      • where did I put that screenshot...
      • jesus2099
ocharles: but only if it’s feasible (not too cpu hungry or who know what)
      • nikki
I'm not sure it'd look very good in the sidebar with the number
      • ocharles
jesus2099: that's for us to decide, users should submit things however they want and not worry about that :)
      • jesus2099
        ocharles: ok :)
      • nikki
but the other day I came up with http://lmfao.org.uk/pendingedits.png (ignore the fact it's nearly all german :P)... if we had something like that (instead of the strange highlighting we have now :P), it would seem like an ok place to display the number
      • ocharles
        how very discogs :P
      • nikki
        :P
      • I don't even use discogs
      • ocharles
seems like a nice idea though!
      • nikki: http://www.discogs.com/Break-Commercial-Suicide... see top right. yours is prettier :P
      • nikki
        ah, yeah
      • and it has a link, so that people can just click it and vote ;)
      • reosarevok
        yay easy votes!
      • ocharles
it should probably have a "Please vote" or something in there too
      • nikki
yeah, that was just the first text that came to mind
      • ocharles
some people might just see it and shrug
      • nikki
at the time I was actually wondering how to convince people to cancel pending edits
      • so the first step was making it more obvious that there are pending edits
      • (people seemed oblivious to the highlighting in mason at least)

ocharles: Can you confirm/deny what I stated in this edit?: http://ngs.musicbrainz.org/edit/14464095 (I did not check "Update artist credits to use the new artists name").
      • jesus2099
luks: is Picard 0.14 able to submit PUID to NGS ?
      • jacobbrett
        jesus2099: It wouldn't for me.
      • nikki
jacobbrett: not for relationships, they don't have artist credits
      • the rest should be true
      • ocharles
yea, all the relationships will change
      • jesus2099
        jacobbrett: ach, thanks.
      • ocharles
jesus2099, jacobbrett: neither of you have actually tried submitting puids to ngs yet
      • because picard hardcodes http://musicbrainz.org into submission
      • nikki
ocharles: picard will only submit to musicbrainz.org apparently
      • jesus2099
ocharles: YES I DID MANY TIMES
      • jacobbrett
        Ah.
      • nikki
        oh right
      • ocharles
jesus2099: no, you're submitting them to http://musicbrainz.org, not http://ngs.musicbrainz.org like you think you are
      • jesus2099
I even edited my hosts file etc. that made the PUID lookup work but not the subimssion (picard 13)
      • bleh
      • ocharles
jesus2099: that doesn't make a difference, the proxy doesn't realise you're trying to submit somewhere else so it still routes to musicbrainz.org
      • anyway, back in 15
      • nikki
ocharles: I'd say they *did* try submitting to ngs, but picard went "pfft! what do *you* know! I'm using musicbrainz.org whether you like it or not!"
      • jacobbrett
nikki: I *am* justly merging, now that artists can be credited differently for releases?
      • luks
I wonder why is jesus2099 so interested in PUIDs...
      • reosarevok
luks: he uses them a lot, afaik. I don't think he has some evil involvement with musicip ;)
      • luks
well, he doesn't even save MBIDs in his files
      • nikki
        jacobbrett: imo, yes
      • luks
        so I don't think that's the case
      • jacobbrett
Good, just checking I'm using all the new stuff correctly. ;)

      • ocharles still away ?
      • ocharles
        no, i'm back now
      • jesus2099
I tried to submit puid to ngs but i got an authentification probel m now
      • can you see my requests ?
      • nikki
you need to update whatever you're using to submit the puids
      • because the authentication stuff changed
      • jesus2099
        I use picard 13
      • ocharles
        book case!
      • reosarevok
        ocharles: no wheels this time?
      • ocharles
reosarevok: i wish there were, damn thing weighed a ton to lug up the stairs
      • reosarevok
Well, wheels are not the best for stairs anyway…
      • ocharles
        big ones are!
      • jesus2099
nikki: update the program i use for puid... hm... are you thinking of picard 14 or somehting that doesn’t exist yet ?
      • ocharles
if the wheel is as deep as the tread of the stairs, it can be pushed in a straight line :)
      • nikki
how did you get picard to submit them to ngs?
      • jesus2099
I forwarded all requests to ngs.mb
      • luks
jesus2099: I told you that picard can't submit PUIDs to NGS
      • jesus2099
        with fiddler code
      • luks: i understood it was just a problem of picard couldn’t change servername
      • just that... but it seems the authentification part is also different now
      • ocharles
        yep
      • but actually, I thought Picard used Qt for HTTP, so it would still work
      • jesus2099
it asked me to type my login/pwd and i did but then it was nG
      • luks
I really have to wonder, why are PUIDs so important to you even though you don't use them?
      • (if I remember correctly, you use foo_musicbrainz for tagging)
