        :/
      • bitmap
I tried compiling epiphany a few weeks ago, but it just crashes on OSX :/
      • kepstin
yeah, I haven't heard of anyone running current versions of epiphany on anything other than linux
      • bitmap
and then I installed it on my linux machine and found out it apparently doesn't have a JS console anyway...
      • kepstin
it does, in the web inspector
      • chrisb joined the channel
      • bitmap
oh, I couldn't figure out how to open it
      • kepstin
hmm. looks like they dropped the option to enable it in the ui now.
      • in mine, I can just right-click anywhere and "inspect element"
      • bitmap
cool, I'll have to see if mine does that
      • (version 3.2.x)
      • kepstin
"TypeError: 'undefined' is not an object (evaluating 'MB.text.RemoveLinkedEntity["artist"]')" - hmm.
      • that's in one of the obfuscated musicbrainz javascript files.
      • kepstin notes that the version of epiphany and the version of the webkit engine used aren't tied together.
      • chrisb
i have libofa, libdiscid, and ffmpeg installed, but picard isn't finding them...
      • kepstin
epiphany 3.2.x can use any webkit-gtk from the 1.6 and 1.7 lines.
      • (epiphany's just a fairly simple wrapper around webkit-gtk, adds toolbars, history, and bookmarks :)
      • bitmap
oh, 1.6 is the latest on arch linux I think
      • chrisb
i'm running 0.16 from the tarball on linux
      • bitmap
what commands are you using to run it?
      • you should run "python setup.py config" and then "python setup.py build_ext -i" first
      • chrisb
        python setup.py config, python setup build_ext -i , python setup build_locales -i
      • then python tagger.py
      • do i need libofa0-dev, too?
      • bitmap
you might need -dev packages installed depending on what distro you're using
      • yes
      • chrisb
        heh
      • bitmap: thanks
      • bitmap
        np :)
      • chrisb
ok, python setup.py config found libofa...

      • kepstin
that's a drama cd that happens to have a couple full songs on it as well.
      • (only tracks 2, 14)
      • the credited artist does happen to be the main character of the dramas, but...
      • hmm.
      • kepstin is tempted to recredit most of the tracks to [dialogue] or something

      • it shows "(undefined)" in the popup, instead of letting me choose to do a direct search
      • (when nothing is found)
      • and even if it finds something, no option to do a direct search is shown
      • kepstin tries a different browser
      • huh. so it's just epiphany.
      • weird
      • the 'release duplicates' page should really let you search for the release manually :/

        ARGH
      • Do people not read artist comments?
      • reosarevok keeps finding people setting dance tunes to obscure Spanish rapper
      • s
      • ianmcorvidae
        hah
      • potentially there's somewhere that the comment should be shown that it isn't?
      • reosarevok
        I doubt it
      • I think they just don't mind
      • Specially if anything sounds barely Spanish
      • "ooooh, this says Spanish" -> set
      • ianmcorvidae
        heh, yup
      • oh, incidentally, I've modified the timeline graph stuff in such a way that it's now (well, after it's merged and released) possible to add whatever lines you want to the main graph
      • (or to the single graphs, which I still made work, but)
      • so soon it should be possible to generate really unuseful timelines!
      • (I haven't hooked that all into the URL system to make them linkable though, so :P)
      • reosarevok
I want a graph of the evolution of the number of Micronesian artists! :D
      • Of FEMALE Micronesian artists!
      • ianmcorvidae
I think that graph is currently "0 since we started collecting data"
      • well, doing intersections of statistics isn't possible, but :P
      • reosarevok
        Aww
      • It should!
      • ianmcorvidae
        well, I mean
      • the data collection just isn't happening to make that possible
      • we'd have to specifically collect every possible intersection
      • reosarevok
        :(
      • ianmcorvidae
which would be a bit problematic :P
      • Leftmost
Anyone have a few SATA cables and some thermal compound I can borrow? :P
      • ianmcorvidae
        hah
      • reosarevok
        Don't make explosives!
      • ianmcorvidae
I have neither that aren't being used, not that I could get them to you anyway ;)
      • also, 'borrow' thermal compound
      • Leftmost
reosarevok, less interested in making explosives and more interested in making my server.
      • ianmcorvidae
        since it's totally reusable :P
      • Leftmost
ianmcorvidae, yep! Just scrape it off with a knife and plop it on the next one. :P
      • ianmcorvidae
sounds like a great way to break a computer :P
      • reosarevok
        Maaaaaan
      • Can we bar newbies from entering VA releases?
      • :(
      • Leftmost
Anyhow, it's clear that by "borrow" I mean that I would like to use a portion of it sufficient for a single computer and return the rest. :P
      • ianmcorvidae
        yeah, lol
      • kepstin
man, I need to find less obscure singles from old robot cartoons to fix up
      • reosarevok
kepstin, want to fix stuff up?
      • Leftmost
reosarevok, I occasionally find myself wishing to bar some people from editing anything.
      • reosarevok
      • Go splitting! :p
      • I would vote no, but the guy has 20 edits, so I'm assuming good faith
      • kepstin
someone left a transliterated tracklist of something I didn't recognize on an artist that I know fairly well... so I've tracked it down to actually be this: http://joshinweb.jp/dp/4988003240486.html
      • reosarevok
Hmm, I guess it would be easier to just fix the tracklist + tracks

        Can I get opinions on http://musicbrainz.org/edit/15652228 ?
      • reosarevok
        Depends
      • :p
      • kepstin puts that catalog number into the magic japanese music database, and gets back: http://www.minc.gr.jp/minc-bin/cat_lst1?CAT1=KIDA&CAT2=187
      • Leftmost
        reosarevok, either.
      • reosarevok has no idea
      • reosarevok
        Oh
      • Ok
      • Leftmost, is this following cover?
      • kepstin, I envy you
      • ianmcorvidae
hm, front and back cover apparently don't have credits
      • must be in a booklet
      • Leftmost
reosarevok, to the extent possible, yes. The obi lists artists only for tracks with vocalists, and only vocalists in those cases. The booklet lists vocalist and composer, but lists vocalist first and, when it lists only composer, always fronts NAMCO instead of the compoesr.
      • s/es/se/
      • ianmcorvidae, first page of the booklet, and on the obi.
      • Leftmost turns Spanish into Swedish.
      • reosarevok
        Wow
      • That's a feat
      • Leftmost
Magic Japanese music database has vocalists where they exist, nothing where they don't: http://www.minc.gr.jp/minc-bin/cat_lst1?CAT1=CO...
      • (Columbia's site does the same, for reference.)
      • kepstin
yeah, it's odd how they do that.
      • reosarevok
        Aww :(
      • I want a Magic Spanish database!
      • Leftmost
Clearly you should create one. http://musicbrainz.org
      • reosarevok
        :p
      • Yeah
      • And take the ISRCs from where? :(
      • Leftmost
        I don't know. I don't really understand ISRCs.
      • reosarevok
        They're standards
      • Standards are good!
      • ianmcorvidae
Leftmost: well, I think you're right based on what was said here; we'll see if further discussion happens
      • reosarevok
(even when done averagely - like in this case)
      • Leftmost
        Alright. Cheers.
      • At some point, I'll start mucking with recordings. First, though, I have to get all of my releases entered.
      • reosarevok
        heh
      • reosarevok points that user to http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Cover_Art_Archive
      • kepstin
you should probably wait until we have a working cover art archive first
      • reosarevok
        I mean
      • I said it as "this thing should come at some point and stuff"
      • "And should make it easier"
      • wow
      • ISRCs are coming to MB like crazy now
      • :)
