“Django Reinhardt / Stephane Grappelli, Volume 3: Inedits”? “Django Reinhardt / Stephane Grappelli et le Quintette du Hot Club de France, Volume 3: Inedits”? “Volume 3: Inedits”?
hawke_: I have pairs of works where the same person was the lyricist for both even though the lyrics are different :P
hawke_
nikki: I know there are such cases, but it helps.
brianfreud
I had 2 different "Diamond Joe"s, each performed by Dylan, and each [trad] :P
brianfreud has the sense that [trad]'s works will grow quickly as so much more of the pre-recorded music era of folk joins the db
nikki
it doesn't help a lot though, you still have no idea whether the lyrics were changed or not
brianfreud
I've been lucky so far at finding lyrics.
hawke_
There’s a threshold for changed lyrics anyway
So effectively you never know whether there are changed lyrics, even if the work is the same
brianfreud
plus whether the artist decides to try to register the "new" version with a PRO
http://mudcat.org/ is quite useful if you're got a mess of [trad] to sort out
hawke_
Yep, I often find things there

Do we have a sane way of crediting band leaders and their bands?
when the band name changes but the personnel doesn’t?
personnel *don’t* rather
reosarevok
Artist credits?
hawke_
Indeed.
reosarevok
Dunno, that seems like the easiest of the problems to me
Much better than the opposite, backing band with the same name but always different personnel
hawke_
but: Credit to solo artist, with name "Artist and his Band", "Artist and His Sextet", etc.? Or make a separate group for all the band name variations—and if that, what to name it?
reosarevok
Hmmm
hawke_
Or, of course, separate artists for each name variant (that seems like the worst option)
reosarevok
I guess a cold, calculated "Artist X's Backing Band" as a name is not an option? :p
reosarevok knows it's weird, but on the other hand so is choosing one
Not really the kind of musical world I feel safe to give advice about though
kovacsur
I think it needs to be decided on a case-by-case basis
reosarevok
Maybe mail mb-users?
Yeah, probably
It might make sense to make a wiki page or something
Ask people to list their favoured name
And start with the artist+bands they agree on
:p
That way you don't need to make the hard decisions for a while! :)
In any case
reosarevok has to sleeeeeeep :)
VxJasonxV
Hmm
hawke_
Well, it would require people interested in whatever band in question. :-)
VxJasonxV
I think there needs to be a "commit" or some other "skip to end, no further changes" button in the editor
reosarevok
VxJasonxV, there is
It's called the Edit Note tab
VxJasonxV
it sucks to wait through three clicks when you just want to edit label/annotation/whatever on the first screen
