no i think its going. got the first cd added, though it required a 'remove medium' edit of the one-track cd1 i added
      • track parser is funky, can't figure out delimiters
      • CallerNo6
I usually clean up copied tracklists in a text editor before pasting into the track parser.
      • function1
        grumble grumble
      • yeah i had to do that
      • nikki has said before that the track parser needs a track parser :/
      • CallerNo6

When did Last.fm start actively grabbing tracklists/release dates from MB? Seems fairly recent (a few months, at most)...

Question regarding Adding releses: Best practice to add tack number ? I like to pad track number to 2 digit, ie 00,01,02.. Is this accepted ?
      • jacobbrett
Just leave it as 1, 2, 3, etc. You can pad it at a later stage (e.g. Picard)
      • dixoncx
        jacobbrett: Ok..
      • jacobbrett
        dixoncx: If it's a vinyl/cassette release, you might consider A1, A2, B1, B2: http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/User:Hawke/Proposal... (this isn't an official guideline)
      • dixoncx
Also how can i add attitional info, say composer, lyricist..
      • jacobbrett
dixoncx: On a release page, in the right column is a link towards the bottom "Edit relationships"...it's a new system--I haven't tried it myself, but it looks good.
      • dixoncx
        jacobbrett: hmm, let me try..
      • jacobbrett: Is it anyway possible from picard ? Tried plugin 'Add cluster as release ' but it didnt support this..
      • jacobbrett
dixoncx: Is what possible, exactly? Adding composer from existing tags?
      • dixoncx
        yes
      • Say, first i fixed my local files with picard adding add data. Then i wants to add them in MB.
      • kepstin-laptop
dixoncx: no, sorry, not possible right now. It's better to add information on the website first, and use picard after.
      • dixoncx
But adding meta-data to local files through picard is much easy compared to adding them in website..:(
      • nikki joined the channel
      • jacobbrett
dixoncx: I'm not sure it would save you too much time anyway, as text values would have to be matched to MB entities
      • dixoncx
Is it possible to add relationships - 'composer', 'lyricist' etc. to track/recording instead of release? So i can add different 'lyricist' to different tracks..
      • andreypopp joined the channel
      • I want to add relationship: 'Release' was composed by 'Artist'. I cant find 'Composition' sub-category in for 'Recording'. But its available for 'Release'.
      • <jacobbrett>, <kepstin-laptop>: Are you there ?
      • jacobbrett
dixoncx: Yep, you should be able to do that through the "Edit relationships" interface.
      • Composition is for works, not recordings.
      • also, recordings are linked to works
      • dixoncx
define work. is it not recording ?
      • jacobbrett
A work is an entity that represents the composition...the recording is a performance of that composition
      • in the relationship editor, you should see "← Add related work →"?
      • dixoncx
        yes
      • jacobbrett
you can use that to find an existing work, or create a new one...then link it to that recording...then, you should be able to add relationships to that work in the "Related works" column
      • dixoncx
Works means cover, live etc ? But i want to add different composer for different tracks in same recording.
      • Here i can only access composer relationship for release
      • ijabz joined the channel
      • Made a typo: But i want to add different composer for different tracks in same 'Release'
      • Say track-1 : composer-X, track-2 : composer-Y in Release-Z
      • jacobbrett
Did you add a work for one of the recordings? If you do, you should be able to add a composer to that work in the right column...it will apply only for that track (because of the work--recording relationship)
      • then, you have to add a work for each of the other recordings and add composers to each of those works, too
      • dixoncx
        hmm, let me try..
      • <jacobbrett>: Look this: http://musicbrainz.org/release/ef9d69e7-3b8c-44... Is it Ok ?
      • jacobbrett
        dixoncx: Perfect!
      • Also, if you want to create many works or add many relationships at the same time, mark the checkboxes and use the "batch-add" tools at the top of the page.
      • dixoncx
        Thanks for the tip.
      • Also will this fill composer tag when other users use picard to get metadata ?
      • jacobbrett
dixoncx: Yes, I think it should definitely if they choose "use track relationships".
      • (That's an option under "Metadata")
      • dixoncx
<jacobbrett>: While adding or editing details, will they update database concurrently ?
      • jacobbrett
dixoncx: Picard's database? You would have to right click the release in Picard and press "refresh" after you make the changes in MB.
      • dixoncx
        jacobbrett: No Musicbrainz db
      • Also where is the option "use track relationships" ? In picard ?
      • jacobbrett
dixoncx: If you're making new additions, they'll take effect straight away. Though usually if you're editing an existing relationship or other data, there's a two week (maximum) voting period before the change is made.
      • Yes, under the Metadata options.
      • dixoncx
        K, iwill look through it..
      • jacobbrett: Works great !!!
      • jacobbrett
        dixoncx: :)
      • dixoncx
jacobbrett: Also whats best practice for adding album art ? Am adding this by uploading picture. But most of releases add them with url relationship ?
      • jacobbrett
The URL relationship shouldn't be used any more...you should upload them through the "cover art" tab. It only supports JPG right now, though. The higher quality/size the better (it also resizes to 500px/250px)!
      • dixoncx
        jacobbrett: K, thanks..
      • Question About Language in release. Is this means the language in which artist sings song ?
      • jacobbrett: :)
      • jmvanel joined the channel
      • jacobbrett
No, that's the language that the release and track titles are printed in :) ... you can specify the lyric language on the work
      • if the song was translated, you'd make a new work for the translation and link the works together

      • I wonder why someone decides to import Discogs cover pictures, but then stops after uploading less than half.
      • Interesting.
      • Freso goes to finish the job
      • reosarevok
Because importing loads of pics is BORING
      • I guess :)
      • Freso
        Psh.
      • I really wish we had that "import via URL" though.
      • kovacsur
I'm not so sure... I'd prefer more people uploading their own verified and high-quality scans

        that... sounds fair
      • Freso has some un-uploaded scans from a scanner he borrowed for a few days, but hasn't gotten around to process the images yet.
      • Freso
        kovacsur: Grand!
      • kovacsur
what kind of post-processing do you mean? just cropping/straightening/levels correction?
      • Freso
        Yeah.
      • I don't mind doing the scanning work, but I don't like spending time in image editors. :p
      • kovacsur
I wonder if that's a common problem that's keeping people from uploading cover art
      • if it is, maybe we should think of a way to upload raws that others can clean up
      • ianmcorvidae
I have somewhat of the opposite problem in that I dislike the scanning but am better at the image editor work
