        nikki: Danish. :p
      • mat_
also, hum, maybe I'm bad at that internet thing, but I can't see to find where on that page I can download the songs for free
      • Freso
        nikki: "[1-31]. (januar,februar,marts,april,maj,juni,juli,august,september,oktober,november,december) [-∞ - ∞]"
      • Also, I think I mixed up mp3.com with that Russian site that was well-known some years back.
      • derwin
heh, I love this case.. the published lyrics differ from the album version
      • Freso: historically, mp3.com did in fact get in some trouble.
      • wow, I am pretty excited that multiple release countries/dates go back to a single release.
      • that was actually my biggest worry in terms of corpus explosion
      • KRSCuan
Does Picard or its cover art plugin have any way to limit CAA images to at most 500x500, at least for what gets embedded?
      • derwin
keeping 1 entity per country of release when in fact it's exactly the same album in every country
      • KRSCuan
I came across 1MB+ large cover art and am not amused.
      • nikki
      • KRSCuan
Thanks, I was about to search for the respective line of code.
      • reosarevok
        derwin, corpus explosion?
      • and I thought I liked to use weird words :p
      • derwin
yes, explosion in terms of size of the corpus
      • many more entities at little benefit
      • you wouldn't keep 16 specimens of the common house fly.
      • ianmcorvidae
corpus explosion sounds like something we'd do late at night at an MB summit when very bored
      • derwin
or in a cemetary after dark
      • nikki
        haha
      • reosarevok
derwin: I know what you meant, it just was a very... specific way of saying it :)
      • derwin
      • reosarevok
And yeah, that's why we wanted to get this
      • Once we have it we could do stuff like query iTunes for all regional release dates and auto-add that
      • derwin
        that's the most duplicated entity
      • if there's release-per-country
      • because tracks are more unique
      • (I suppose...)
      • ianmcorvidae: I am pretty confident you could determine the most-and-least-cardinal entities?
      • ianmcorvidae
        hm?
      • derwin
well, like, recordings are on one-or-more releases
      • identical-seeming-except-id releases are releases in one or more country
      • it seems like there is a set of things you can determine are "the same" and count
      • from that, you could establish the cardinality of those entities, and predict relative growth rates
      • CloudCatCat
derwin> wow, I am pretty excited that multiple release countries/dates go back to a single release. <- this times a million
      • hah, irccloud says that was 42 minutes ago :3
      • Freso
Should I add all the downloads on http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?ban... as singles?
      • They all have "cover art", and I'm guessing most of them have a "release date" in the form of an upload date.

      • Muz: Are you mustaqila on Flickr?
      • reoafk nikki: ^*2 ?
      • nikki
I don't know if he is, but probably
      • kovacsur
Any ideas what the sort name for a Hungarian artist's Cyrillic Serbian birth name should be?
      • nikki
do you know which part is the surname?
      • kovacsur
Hungarian name: Sztevanovity Dusán, Serbian Cyrillic: Душан Стевановић (English transliteration: Dushan Stevanovich), Serbian Latin: Dušan Stevanović
      • sure, the problem is what language to transliterate to
      • portik has left the channel
      • CloudCatCat
        Freso: yes he is (muz)
      • Freso
nikki: The "*2" was meant to indicate that you should skip one.
      • nikki: Ie., I wasn't asking you about Muz' Flickr account. :)
      • nikki
Freso: that was not very clear :P
      • kovacsur: if you're talking about alias sortnames, then it should just be the cyrillic version. the whole point of adding sortnames there was so that we could have sortnames appropriate to the locale instead of using arbitrary transliterations that are useless for sorting
      • kovacsur: if your'e talking about the main artist name, then it's arbitrary anyway :P
      • Freso
nikki: Are you indicating that I may occassionally express myself an unconcise, possibly even ambigious, manner? How... rude!
      • kovacsur
nikki, thanks, it will be for an alias (whew)
      • Freso
        *in an
      • nikki
Freso: it was concise, just a bit too concise :P
      • Freso
        :p
      • nikki: Yeah, I guess I should've used ^~1 instead.
      • I'd still like some sort of response to that question though...

Muz: You should add https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Flickr_Machine_Tag to your Flickr pictures. :)
      • Muz
        Freso: sounds like effort.
      • Freso
Muz: I would, but I don't see a way to tag multiple images in one go, and I don't feel like going through your pictures one by one. :p
      • Muz
You should build me a tool that'd do it for me.
      • I dont think I have that many music related photos anyway.
      • And I haven't used Flickr in A While.
      • portik has left the channel
      • Freso
Muz: You can use Flickr's own interface to tag multiple images with the same tag. And I count 53 (of your 200) images at least, just looking at your frontpage.
      • Plus one video.
      • navap: Did you make the WikiPage for the showcase stuff yet btw?
      • Sput1
        hey all :)
      • ... why is the nick in use 0o
      • LordSputnik
... some french guy on another channel D:
      • Muz
Freso: still, effort for a site I don't regularly use :P
      • It'd be more worthwhile to go through and write a tool that does it cleverly.
      • Freso
Muz: But added value for MusicBrainz!
      • (And -Bottle!)
      • Muz
Could utilise last.fm event machine tags for added reliability.
      • Freso
Muz: But I don't know anything about image matching. And I don't trust names or name based lookups enough to base it on that.
      • Muz
Confidence models based on several pieces of metadata.
      • Freso
        Sounds like effort. :)
      • LordSputnik
anyone know if there's a ticket to make it possible to paste MB links into the recording search when editing recordings in the track list? At the moment, it sort of results in the page glitching/accepting no more input for that track
      • Muz
Freso: and now you can see why I can't be arsed.
      • Freso
Does anyone know a "Héctor Arroyo Santiago"?
      • Muz: It'd be 5 minutes to tag the things for you.
      • Muz: It'd be at least 5 days for me to write such a script.
      • Muz
That's like half an hour in dog years.
      • Freso
Seeing how I've no prior experience with those kinds of algorithms.

      • Freso
        Wow!
      • Don't go spend it all at once!
      • navap
        Heh, funny you say that
      • it was two separate vouchers. Ispent one in JFK andMy plan is to redeem the second in Newark

      • navap

      • navap: Chander?
      • LordSputnik
hawke, hawke_, hawke_1 and all variations thereof :P fixed those ABBA releases, turns out one of them is actually a 1997 remaster with the wrong date (2001)
      • hawke_1
        LordSputnik: Nice.
      • LordSputnik: Are you sure it’s not a 2001 reissue of the 1997 remaster?
      • LordSputnik
hawke_1: I doubt it, since the purpose of the 2001 remaster was to replace the 1997 one, which was heavily criticised
      • Freso
Or a 2001 remaster of the 2001 reissue of the 1997 remaster?
      • LordSputnik
        :P
      • that seems most likely ;)
      • Freso
        Hey, just askin'!
      • LordSputnik
But on balance, I think it was just given the wrong date by a well meaning editor
      • hawke_1
        Sounds good.
      • Yeah, that edit (by drsaunde) looks like a guess to me.
      • Freso
LordSputnik: Remember to look at the edit history to see if any related edits provided any useable source.
      • LordSputnik
        Freso: did do that :P
      • the source was just "oh, it has bonus tracks, can't be the original"
      • Freso
        LordSputnik: :)
      • LordSputnik
      • Freso
        Nope.
      • LordSputnik: Did you read the summit notes?
      • hawke_1
LordSputnik: I don’t suppose you have any way to validate the AcoustIDs on there? I removed the obviously-wrong ones, but there are a few that are not clearly wrong
      • LordSputnik
        Freso: yup
      • Freso
        LordSputnik: Good. :)
      • LordSputnik
        hawke_1: on the whole release?
      • Freso: I was reading them as ian was typing them ;)
      • hawke_1
LordSputnik: yeah. I dunno if you actually ahve the release or what
      • LordSputnik
        (well, sometimes)
      • hawke_1: I don't, I know someone in Australia who does, but I don't think I could persuade him to scan his tracks
      • Freso: I didn't like the idea of pushing the implementation of a redesign to 2-5 years away, it's quite a pressing issue (the fact that nobody knows exactly how to interpret recordings)
      • or rather, everybody thinks they know, but nobody agrees
      • derwin
      • nikki
        it loads for me
      • Freso
derwin: Works for me too. Try and remove the "s" in "https" and see if it's your HTTPS support that's wonky.
      • derwin
(how would my chrome web browser not be able to access https urls?)
      • oh and it's loading now.

ugh, how to AR a recording that is essentially a remix performed live...
      • create a new work for that remix, and link the recording to that?
      • Freso
v6lur: What kind of remix is it?
      • v6lur: If it's a remix that uses a different beat or where lyrics(/vocal tracks) have been added/removed, it is most likely different enough to warrant a new work anyway.
