that special purpose artist guideline is kinda stupid as it is... it was made long before ngs was released, included various controversial things and still doesn't represent how we do things

I don't really see the point of the subsets thing, either we think it's a valid distinction to make and having two separate artists is the best way to do that, or we don't think it's a valid distinction to make so there's no reason to use special artist credits

(like I don't get the [soundtrack] one... that seems to just be [unknown] in a release group marked as soundtrack and not something that needs some special artist credit)

we could just merge all artists in the database and have a single [artist] special purpose artist. that should solve the problem of which artist to use :P
