it looks like the last CD is missing (if the order is correct...)
      • searching for a release with the keyword Bachakademie seems to work
      • henning_
It is not the same release (my box looks different than the image and has a different barcode).
      • But I guess that the actual content will most likely be the same...
      • hibiscuskazeneko joined the channel
      • loujine
I did something less direct: took one of the release from the label you mentionned, took one track on it and checked if the track existed on other releases
      • henning_
That is a good idea, will try next time as well :)
      • loujine
so I relied on the fact that somebody before filled the metadata correctly
      • if you have discID you should be able to add them to the release
      • that would be great
      • to answer your general question: if you need to add a new release where you know some information is already in musicbrainz, you can use the "add medium" button on the tracklist page and select the "existing medium" tab: then you can search for the existing release title and the recordings will be shared
      • hibiscuskazeneko has quit
      • i.e. all metadata will be filled automatically
      • henning_
I will add the discIDs. I am not quite sure yet what to do with my release though.
      • loujine
from the release group page I think you can "clone" a release
      • henning_
The release you pointed me to looks very much the same content-wise, but is different regarding the image, the label, and the bar code.
      • loujine
so you should probably clone the release first, then add barcode/discIDs on the new one
      • all tracks will be filled properly by the cloning operation
      • henning_
        sounds good.
      • No clone button though....
      • loujine
"Add release" on the right side on the release group page IIRC
      • henning_
I tried that, but it did not add all mediums and tracks.
      • loujine
you'll have the standard first tab with the release info to fill, and the next tab will by default suggests to copy the 171 tracklists
      • henning_
        Ah, nice :)
      • Let me try...
      • loujine
        maybe I'm misremembering
      • there's also a userscript for faster release cloning, if you know how to install it
      • henning_
I'll have a look at it.
      • loujine
ah, the second tab is called "Release duplicates", and the existing release to clone is not selected by default

      • loujine
        no problem
      • henning_
Sometimes I hate Musicbrainz - Adding a release based on the existing release, and changing the medium titles of the first 60 disks results in a 3 CD release :/ (https://musicbrainz.org/release/46692d35-d225-4...)

      • loujine
        this just happened?
      • henning_
        Yes.
      • No Idea why...
      • loujine
did you clone the release and rename in the same edit? can you check in "all my edits" that nothing else was submitted?
      • henning_
        I will.
      • What I did is adding a release from the release group, then saying that the new release should be based on the old release. This actually resulted in a release with 171 mediums, of which I changed the title of 60. Then I just clicked on "Next...", "Next...", and added an edit comment.
      • loujine
urgh; anyway, the easiest is probably to clone again (and nothing else in the edit)
      • henning_
But, apparently, only three mediums were added.
      • I will do that :)
      • sparklyballs joined the channel
      • (Cloning again I mean)
      • loujine
the release you just created we can merge later in the correct one for cleanup
      • henning_
Perhaps my old laptop had some problems with such a large release...
      • Who knows. Stuff happens :)
      • No additional edits by me though.
      • hibiscuskazeneko
Here we go again (gaslighting included): https://musicbrainz.org/edit/50043189
      • henning_
Hm, without doing any changes the resulting release had 0 mediums and 0 tracks. I will try the userscript for cloning later...
      • loujine
looks like an importnt bug then, if you have time, can you open an issue on tickets.metabrainz.org with a reference to our talk? (https://chatlogs.metabrainz.org/brainzbot/music...)

      • henning_: I think the cloning script just fills the first tab with the info of the cloned release (label, date...) to siæplify the creation; it should still fail the same way hen submitting the edit if indeed the problem comes from a timeout

      • It seems that the logic when adding a release based on another release is as follows:
      • loujine
on the last tab, did you see the "Add medium" text for each CD?
      • henning_
What I just found out is that a medium will be added for each medium which I actively unfold on the "Tracklist" tab.
      • For all those mediums I do see an "Add medium" on the last tab.
      • For all mediums that I did not unfold, I do not see anything on the last tab - and they will also not be added to the release (although they are displayed on the TRacklist tab)
      • In my first attempt, I opened some mediums to double check that they are actually the same as in my release; that is why the created release contained some mediums (but not all).
      • So, is this intended behavior? Or is this worth a ticket?
      • loujine
I think it's worth a ticket, I don't see how this could be the expected behavior
      • you can also check with developers on #metabrainz
      • henning_
        ok, thanks, I will.
      • loujine
but opening a ticket is never a bad idea :)
